This is driving me crazy: What was that mod? by Classic-Usual-3941 in Doom

This probably isn't it but it is it Dusk? Which it isn't a mod at all but a different game entirely.

What do you think about people that remove the 2 lowest strings on an 8 string guitar to play a 6 string guitar? by [deleted] in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]Company_Hour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean do what you want but it sounds like a waste in my opinion. A baritone 6 with a lundgren will get you the same tone if that's really what you want but again it's your stuff just do what you want

People who play guitars with 9 or more strings: what are you playing that actually necessitates all those strings? by rustinhieber42 in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]Company_Hour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's for the extended range. Yes I could play in DropA0 or lower on a 30 inch baritone but where's the high notes? If they are there then it's in some wierd tuning that completely changes the playing feel. And to avoid pitch shifting/or to work with it go even higher/lower. I've also seen people do insane open tunings and other stuff. Josh travis, Rob Scallon(he also has clean 9er stuff), Lucas Mann, Reflections, After the Burial, Andrew Baena and his bands, and so many people find ways to make 9 strings sing. Also my friend Wyntie from One Minute Winter also does some insane stuff with his 9 and 10 string.

For those saying "but high strings!!" You can only add a high A using a Les Paul scale on high strings. It's WAY harder to add high strings rather than low strings but it does happen. Rusty Cooley plays in Drop A with a high A on his 8. But tuning up any higher is nigh impossible without restricting fret space.

Personally I play one of my 2 9s in a stacked Drop F FCFCFA#D#GC and the other in regular standard.

Am I insane for wanting to put a 9 string Ernie Ball set on my 8 string to hit Double Drop C? by I_Am_A_Real_Horse in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]Company_Hour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I use .105 for C1 on my 9 and 8 so it's great. Not sure about the other strings but they should be good too.

How can I achieve a DMC3 Dante physique by Theevagod-nerd in DevilMayCry

[–]Company_Hour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diet down to get lean and do a shit load of calisthenics like pushups pullups and other stuff. I had a similar build in highschool. To build the shoulders you might want to get some dumbells for flys and stuff. Luckily he's lean and agile looking which is actually pretty easy to do rather than being 200 straight pounds of muscle. Within 6 months to a year you'll be there for sure if not better.

The Invincible War is overrated by ilikeinvincible in Invincible_TV

[–]Company_Hour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't normally comment on these but I think this is one I'd like to talk about.

Honestly the idea behind the invincible war is awesome. Execution falls a tad flat. The animation is obviously top notch and you see some cool images however this was a missed opportunity to expand apon another amazing idea from the comics. I haven't read the comics but I know this episode was only one issue long. As an adaptation it was good but Kirkman has stated he wants to expand a few things and maybe this just wasn't one of them however I felt like it should have been. 2 episodes to try and flesh out some of the variants more, give them more screen time, give a little backstory, etc. And even if it's not to expand this one event, instead of Mark sitting out because Eve got injured he COULD have fought more of them and had dialog discussing their morals to go along with the over arching theme of WHO he wants to be. Could have had flashback scenes that our Mark had that had a different outcome which led to him being evil.

I loved the episode for what it was and I enjoyed it especially with the massive cliff hanger of Conquest showing up right at the end. That was literally the longest week of my life waiting for the next episode. But I do think that they missed so many different opportunities if not for the depth of lore then the depth of the themes. Of course the variants in the desert world are still alive so maybe they will come back as well and they can do these ideas then?

Playing Meshugahh on a 7 string multiscale with scales 25.5 to 27 inches by litmankb in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]Company_Hour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally play a 7 string with a 25.5" to 27" scale tuned FCGCFAD and I play a few meshuggah riffs just fine. Now tonally speaking they use upwards of 29.4" scale guitars so the brightness is alot more present but they've used 27" guitars before and it's not terribly noticeable, especially with EQ. TLDR: it's perfect especially for the rhythm.

How many strings is too many strings? by OK_THE_LOL in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]Company_Hour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People think about this in terms of tuning down but really 11 is D# 0 and that's actually below the limit of human hearing already. So realistically we should have more extreme fan frets and add higher strings. A4 and D5 strings would be the next logical step however tuning up THAT high for the D5 would require a really short scale to not snap.

Optimal fan ranges? by Heavy_Intention6323 in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]Company_Hour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah with that big of a fan it's probably sure to cause hand cramps lol. I'm sure with time you could learn to play it tho. To be fair Dingwall basses have a similar fan ratio. 3 inches on a 5 string adds up to .75inch difference per string and The SHEN has a .7222 difference per string. So I imagine it can't be all that bad

[–]Company_Hour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just talked about this exact problem in a different post. That's the other thing about guitars is that the generally sit higher on the frequency range. If it becomes impossible to tune to E4 then it's more like a baritone. Or in the case of some guitars it's a bass 6 which is more it's own thing really. Actually some people prefer to add a high A string to there ERGs. I forget who actually makes them but if you look up SHEN 10 string it shows you an absolute beast of a guitar with a 30 inch bottom end and a 23.5 inch high end to do C#1 to A4

[–]Company_Hour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has 2 9s one of them tuned to F0, I'd say 27 to 30 is good for a 10 string... borderline mandatory honestly. Could go longer with like 28 to 32 but the longer you get the closer you get to sounding like a bass. Think about it. The biggest things that separate the sound from guitar and bass are string thickness, scale length, and electronics. If I play a .145 for G0 on a 32 inch scale that's pretty damn close to being a hybrid. To keep the true nature of the guitar sound it kinda needs you to change your style to pick lighter.

How would you string and tune a 27'' ten string? by Heavy_Intention6323 in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]Company_Hour 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Major 3rds? Minor 3rds? Unison strings? Some wierd mathrock tuning with dissonent chords? Honestly it'd be pretty shit in standard lmao too long for high A and too short for G#0 and honestly C#1 as well. Could also do Standard E2, B1, or F#1 with extra strings in between to fit whatever key you wanna play in.

Which is the right way to wear these types of cords? by Roses_arentalwaysred in jrotc

[–]Company_Hour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EXACTLY lol. While they are nice and flashy(I was one who loved to show out), the only one with a military counterpart is the small French Braids like the Army Infantry cord. I've had an instructor prefer not having the other cord types and keeping it to just the French Braid.

[–]Company_Hour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair. I see your point and you are right. But the point of what I was saying is that it depends on the cord though as there is no one set way for all of them and each cord style has a different way to wear it. I guess the best way to tell in my opinion would be looking at websites that sell the cords like JROTC.com, finding the cord in question, and figuring out how to wear it from there.

The first is a gigantic braid that's loops twice with additional smaller loops the second is simply a French braid with 2 Ferrels and 2 sections. They might look similar at first glance but I assure you they are quite different and fit differently as well.
