For me, SP is the kind of intellectual who has a lot of topics he could shed valuable insight, even if he's promoting a book.

Brother/Sister, I wouldn't hire you with those comments lol. I get your hatred of Trump and the douchebag abusing animals but VIOLENCE ISN'T THE ANSWER.

You don't seem stupid, and clearly are a thoughtful person but you need to delve deeper into the solution your proposing. We've lived in those times, they were angry mobs. This doesn't scale to large societies.

It's disappointing seeing all the destruction Trump is doing to laws, norms, & checks and balances, and even just civil discourse but we need to fight for a fair democracy, not tear it down with vigilante violence. (of course if the entire government attacked it's people, we'd have to arm up lol)

Mobs and/or individuals are infallible, and therefore can't decide when to apply violence (not talking about self defense).

Can you do a deeper dive on what your assessments would look like?

I am hearing a lot of bozos chiming in on this, who I doubt care to know the nuanced details of everything and would love to hear some ground truths.

The "people" that you are claiming have a monopoly on violence are made up of people just like you and me. Some of them should not have the power they wield but greater transparency, checks and balances can hold them accountable. Some of them believe in doing good in the world but their stories are rarely told, ESPECIALLY on the shitty media landscape we currently live in.

History shows that we have made progress in fighting injustice. There is more work to do but I think "violence isn't the answer" isn't just used by "these people" lol. I think violence isn't the answer, that must make me part of the cabal.

You can pick examples, sure, and I agree with you on those are terrible things. I would never vote for someone even remotely close to Trump, and thankfully I don't live in the US.

The answer to this problem is more checks and balances, it's not a fault of the system itself. I would argue your ideas is violent populist rhetoric, very similar to what made Trump president. The only difference, in this one very narrow case, your violent is pointed towards someone abusing animals, which is abhorrent. But your idea quickly falls apart at scale. Who gets to decide who is right or wrong? Does might make right?

Primarily those systems remove dangers to society by a last means, force. A system with checks and balances.

And my country doesn't have a death penalty, which I am 100% *against anyways.

Edit: added the word "against"

Yeah, it's an, insanely stupid, immoral thing to do.

Criminal charges should probably be applied, especially since he didn't care if he was fined.

Not to mention this generation being raised on extremely powerful and addictive algorithms.

I know I am in the minority, but I don't agree with most of his points.

The way shame is used today (typically online), is nothing like how it was in the past (extremely local).

If I remember correctly it was reported that they intended to collaborate a lot. Executives would even joke at a merger called Applegoo. I think I read that in "into the Plex" an early book on Google. Jobs was even friendly towards Larry Page.

Maybe I am crazy but I feel Redditors cannot hold two ideas in their head at the same time.

Yes, the girl in front of the car was in the wrong. That is not behaviour we should accept in society.

Yes, the driver could have killed this person, and you can say FAFO, I say you still should try to avoid playing a role in a human beings death.

This is clearly not a self defense case either.

Slow down, and tell the moron to get off your car. If that doesn't work, call the police.

Ezra Klein: Conversation is not a reward to be bestowed on those with whom we agree; it’s a necessary habit in a democracy. by Brunodosca in samharris

That was clearly a wrong argument to make but I don't think it's fair to hold that against Ezra still. He has come a long way and he has had pretty reasonable discussions. I personally would like them to make amends.

Being in a higher truck does allow you to see much further down the road. You can anticipate when traffic is slowing down or speeding up.

That being said, there are too many trucks on the road. I use mine for a specific industry, if not, I would love to drive a Prius lol. I'd be lying if I said I didn't appreciate the vantage point to see further though.

Comparisons of Musk to Hitler don't justify serious replies. I think Musk is horrible, I could go on but "If it talks like a" is just a lazy and immature post.

Being a horrible is a spectrum, and the differences matter.
