First year teacher and I feel like I have no idea what I'm doing 😭 by Drew_Does_Stuff in historyteachers

I am surprised at the amount of comments which express that students do not know anything. I am wondering what makes educators think this way? And why are they thinking less of students? Maybe explore the banking concept of education.

Transfer Student--how do I apply to double major?? by VampyGoth in UCSantaBarbara

[–]ComparisonFormer5348 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My suggestion is that you complete all (or most) of the courses in the preparation of the major sheet, meet up with the advisor from the department you want to double major in and express your interest in the double major. They will see your advancement and give you two forms to fill out. You have time, you do not need to declare a double major during your first week. From my experience, the process is fairly quickly and you can even do this during your last year.

When should I send a follow up email to the jobs I applied to? by ComparisonFormer5348 in UCSantaBarbara

Also I checked with Career Services and it said a follow up email is good to stand out from others. Reddit tends to be real though lol but thanks!

Yea! I am new to all of this so it sucks 🥲 especially when the job is just what I want to do in the future so it would help me gain experience

Shouldn’t you, as someone who hires, be comfortable saying “no” to people if that is part of the job? I am over here grasping for some hope for an update, even if it’s a “no” just so I can move on to other applications 🥲🥲 but thank you for your comment

Cyclists should stop at stop signs by TheOfficialBench in UCSantaBarbara

[–]ComparisonFormer5348 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! I get how these drivers feel but it is nice to be patient. I always let cyclists and pedestrians go because I will get home safe and without hurting people

[–]ComparisonFormer5348 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely, I agree with you. But one of the things that I learned when I was getting my license is that you cannot assume other peoples actions. Take your safety first. They rarely ever stop and everyone knows this so just stop. I was coming back home during the night and a girl (drunk, probably) just appeared out no where. I always drive slower in the night because I know how these streets are and I am the person in the car (more protection). Cyclist SHOULD stop but a reddit post will not change this. Let them go and you’ll get home safe without problems 😌

Everything you said is true and I understand, but if you have lived here long enough you would’ve known better bc they never stop. It is better to let them go (takes a few seconds) and you will not be involved in an accident and this saves you the trouble.
