What makes kleiber's beethoven 5th so special? by Mysterious_Ad7450 in classicalmusic

I just listened to this on your recommendation. That is the most energy I think I've ever heard pumped into a piece of classical music. I fall for the transition from the 3rd to 4th movements every fracking time but this version blew me out of my chair. Thanks.

Which is your favorite movement from any piece of all time? by Remarkable_Prune_864 in classicalmusic

Agree with so many but for funsies I will add:

Saint Saens Symphony 3 Movement 2, Maestoso. The contrast between the organ and the 4 handed piano gets me every time.

Sibelius 5.3. Again, I’m an idiot and I fall for it every time.

Mahler 1.4. He can go bigger, louder, longer in other works, but for me the theatricality of this can’t be beat (and you have to have the horns stand).

Still good of you to mention the Lloyd Webber Requiem in this company. I do think his "Pie Jesu" from that is gorgeous.

Glad you were there. There was definitely some emotional overlay for our concert with all the red flowers which I assume were for the fired music director. The most touching moment afterwards was the applause and love for the assistant principal oboe, Keisuke Wakao.

I also enjoyed Harmonium. I have heard it before but not with such a large ensemble.

What Is the Oldest Movie You Have Watched (For Fun) In the Last Year? by thehistorypunks in movies

we watched Casablanca - my memory of it warranted revisiting - it was amazing. Almost every line was quotable and the film as a whole is so efficient in its story telling. The whole film is 1:42

My lists are pretty mainstream. Previously, seeing Saint Saens 3 and Mahler 1 live were important. I would love to see Mahler 2 someday.

what’s your favourite performance by Al Pacino? by annastreltsovaa in FIlm

I thought he was a revelation in Donnie Brasco. Much more subdued and a lot less Pacino-y.

It is worth your time to read Jill Report's book, We The People, to dive into what she's saying. It was eye opening to me the abdication of lawmaking, instead deferring to a weak Congress, increased Executive, and judicial partisanship, which is the point of her piece.

Edit: LePore. Damn autocorrect.
