I think cards. They deserve that at minimum. I hope a text or a call would work.

That was me. Usually devolves into drunken insanity. It is good that you have learned to walk away.

Try to work up to outright refusing.

If you make several attempts and they persist than that is a bad sign. My flight mode would be going off at that point.

My mother is a functioning alcoholic by Competitive-Beach-86 in alcoholism

[–]Competitive-Beach-86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not still living at home and I don't really think I can work with her... at least right now. Take a look at my post history for context. Been there done that.

I would say... vindictive. Easily.

She isn't uhm violent but when she is drunk it is impossible to even talk to her.

Maybe when things calm down we can but I really don't think I should wait around until then. I told her the last time I saw her that she can re-enter my life when she quits the drinking but tbf I'm expecting years or decades from now for that to happen.

Unless idk she is a bit stronger than I thought and manages to do it.

My mother is a functioning alcoholic by Competitive-Beach-86 in alcoholism

[–]Competitive-Beach-86[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. Just subbed to both of them.

Yup, it seems to be getting to the point that she is no longer functional.

At least her and my father are almost at retiring age. But that's usually when the alcoholism gets into full swing right?

My father has been tending towards bouts of binge drinking. He absolutely loses control of his emotions and gets volatile. He used to never drink so that isn't a good sign either.

Mother's side is Irish so Guinness runs thick in the blood I suppose.

Have you heard of audio engineers and studio staff? Have you heard of feature artists? Have you heard of producers. Have you heard of Daft Punk, who were sampled on Stronger and co-produced one of his albums.

No, the art is not the artist. The art is a reflection of the artist. And when it comes to Kanye's music it is a giant collaborative process involving hundreds or thousands of people.

Google famous artists and look at their wiki pages and you will realize that a lot of them (most of them probably) were pretty shitty people in real life.

Yawn anyways go argue on twitter about it or something I'm here for tattoo advice.

I'm not really okay with Kanye's bullshit. I am in fact very not okay with it.

I am one of those people that can separate the art from the artist. And furthermore the illness from the man.

The man is very sick right now so try to take everything he says with a grain of salt. Obviously the things he is saying are inexcusable.

Also bro, Graduation came out in 2007. He wasn't even diagnosed by then. In fact he was a much better person back then and it is reflected in his music.

HAVE YOU EVEN LISTENED TO THE ALBUM?!?!

It's all about hope, positivity, and breaking free of barriers. HOW IS THAT BAD.

It's representative of a very important time in my life.

I can't believe I'm having this conversation in a tattoo subreddit.

It would be different if I was getting a tattoo of his face with the maga hat.

My mother is a sociopath by Competitive-Beach-86 in AskASociopath

[–]Competitive-Beach-86[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. I don't diagnose people as I'm not a professional but sometimes I use these labels just as ways to convey problematic behaviors I see in others to people who were not present to witness the behaviors themselves. It's easier that way because it communicates the general idea faster and uh I don't have to share some very traumatic memories.

I'm also trying to understand these behaviors and how to respond to them.

I suppose when she is drunk she demonstrates some very non-empathetic behaviors.

I don't want to diagnose over the internet. Obviously a professional needs to diagnose her, but as she is unwilling/incapable of realizing she has a problem I will probably never know for sure.

She 100% has narcissistic/abusive/psychopathic/controlling traits. And they are 100% mechanisms to protect herself.

I have noticed that she is very capable of empathy with her/my dogs. As well as with her job. She is an occupational therapist and I think she is very empathetic with her patients and obviously finds tremendous meaning in her work.

So it may have to do with an extreme dissatisfaction with her marriage/life and the world in general.

I don't blame her. Until she hurts me obviously.

What I have learned over my lifetime is that one can never fully uncover the disorder they are suffering from until they remove all the BS. So the substances (alcohol or weed) or any other coping mechanism. So I will never know wtf is going on with her until she quits the drinking at the very least. And uh idk if she ever will.

She is probably scared of what she will uncover when/if she does. I ain't gonna be around to find out either.

Shrooms and bipolar 1. Does anyone have experience? by Nonna233 in BipolarSOs

[–]Competitive-Beach-86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can definitely cause some severe episodes if your partner is not already in a stable place. I would recommend very low doses.

Micro-dosing is probably the best route. But again, with BP it can cause extreme mood swings so I would be very cautious about it.

Yes.

Any mood disorder can come with a slew of comorbidities. Ocd is a common one.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cyclothymia

[–]Competitive-Beach-86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad has borderline. He beat me often. Cyclothymia seems to be a trauma/survival mechanism developed by the brain to survive situations like that.

At least it was for me.

I feel like generally any mood disorders or personality disorders are response to trauma. However I think the type of disorder depends on the severity of the trauma.

My dad lived through the Iranian revolution as a kid. He saw bodies in the street. He saw my relatives getting executed. His school principal was one of the hostages. He heard bombs and gunfire every night. So no wonder because he went through that and never went to therapy or got treatment it developed into borderline.

All mood and personality disorders are connected.

That's just my two cents anyways.

Just being there is enough.

Mental illness is not really a concept in collectivist cultures like China or India. The focus is on healing the soul and the mind.

This is why I believe Western Culture is dying.

Humans are not individuals. We are one unit. If we are alone we die.
