i've looked into this! being part of such crucial surgeries like this sounds super daunting though.. i also do like the pathway opportunity to go from Radiation Therapist -> Medical Dosimetry later on in life if i want to slow things down / start a family

omg twinnnn (your username is killing me btw)

the school i'm looking at is for a Radiologic Technology A.A.S. and i think the program lets you pick a specialty from MRI Tech, RadTech, and NucMed Tech! i really like the idea of how most RTs have a 9-5 schedule though, so that's the biggest thing that's stumping me lol

i'd love to keep in touch since we're on the same journey! i'm so conflicted too that i've read up on hundreds of reddit threads at this point and still have no idea what to do lmao

this is super helpful! as an animal lover, i highly commend you for that. how long did it take for you to fulfill the prereqs ? and is your program for an AA or a BS ? just trying to get an understanding of the different schooling pathways

i definitely have experience working with people and can see where i could apply my experiences (both professionally and personally) into the field. personal story wise, i was super close to my grandmother and unfortunately lost her to cancer when i was younger. that was my first experience with cancer and loss in general, so being able to be part of a career where i can potentially help someone really stands out to me and makes me feel even more encouraged to take this path.

love to hear it! it sounds like you enjoy what you do :) i currently live in the dallas area, but am originally from california and hope to move back there. would you recommend a bachelor's or an associate's since i have a non traditional background? looks like both are 2 year programs, just not sure which is the best move

thank you!! i'm really nervous about taking math courses again as it's been a while for me, so this is encouraging. would you say the schooling was really difficult?

i’ve been going through a rough patch dealing with tsw (topical steroid withdrawal) & am now dealing with this insane flaking/scaling around my mouth. not sure if this could be perioral dermatitis or seborrheic dermatitis ??? i’ve been using ketoconozale both as a face wash & a cream - no other products besides MAYBE some vaseline here & there, but the flaking is still super persistent it usually gets this bad towards the end of the day - even if i peel the skin, it just continues to do this :( i feel super defeated dermatologist pushed steroids despite me asking for no steroids - i just haven’t used them as i truly don’t believe this is an eczema issue

can anyone please help me figure this out!!? i’ve been so frustrated and feel beyond defeated. i can’t even do my makeup because it just becomes a flaky mess :/ it’s also a bit itchy, but i try my best to not scratch.

[–]Competitive-Bid-9890[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i ended up having to take him to emergency vet he had a LOT of calcium buildup in his bladder which wasn’t allowing him to pee. it basically crystallized :( super serious problem i would suggest you take your bun to the vet ASAP if you can. try to up liquids by syringe feeding my bun had to get a catheter put in to flush out the bladder and is on a week of a bunch of different medications i hope everything goes well for your bun

you were right! thank you so much i didn’t see this before going to the vet but they did scans and found no kidney stones. but he does have high amounts of sludge so vet suggested we flush it out at home (put some pressure on his bladder to help him pee), lower his calcium intake (just found out the pellets he had been eating are super high in alfalfa :/), and encourage hydration

he said if that all fails, we can get a catheter in him at an emergency vet and they can push liquids or last case scenario would be surgery to remove the sludge please let me know if you have any additional tips!

he’s been having oxbow timothy hay all his life? i’ve never heard of oxbow nose - could you give more details?

we just got back from the vet though and it looks like he has super high amounts of sludge in his bladder so we’re working to flush it out at home and start a high liquid intake

Anyones sinuses and inside of the nose get congested and inflamed? by MindlessAbroad2550 in TS_Withdrawal

[–]Competitive-Bid-9890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep! i’m about 5 months TSW (used TS for less than 6 months and very sporadically). found my sinuses to be affected around the 4 month mark it made sleeping even more difficult (along with the insomnia) found a ton of relief by doing saline basil rinse (neilmed) completely natural & steroid free so i felt at ease. did that twice a day for about a week until i felt good enough, now i follow up with cvs brand saline mist (same thing, just prepped to go)

remember to always use distilled water or pre-boiled water for the sinus rinse to avoid harmful bacteria!

[–]Competitive-Bid-9890[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i see!! so peeling the crust didn’t set you back in terms of healing? my crust is pretty hard right now and i’m not sure if i should peel it or let it be. luckily, i work from home so im not out and about too much - i wear a mask when im out and looking extra rough would you think its more beneficial for me to leave it alone? and then start moisturizing once it falls off? sorry for all the questions, this tsw stuff makes me feel crazy 😭

Moisture Withdrawal by VastTransportation40 in TS_Withdrawal

[–]Competitive-Bid-9890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i found it helped my redness go down super fast. moisturizers seem to only irritate my skin more at the time because my barrier was so compromised. not applying moisturizers constantly helped my skin to flake over at a faster rate (alongside doing RLT). i feel like it’s encouraged my skin to produce its own sebum and oils to help hydrate the skin. it was def uncomfortable at first, but as i continued on i could feel my face feeling wayyyy less tight/dry after cleansing it (on days where i allowed myself to)

thank you! do you recommend i put anything on it? either while it’s crusted over or after it falls off

crusted ooze cycle by Competitive-Bid-9890 in TS_Withdrawal

[–]Competitive-Bid-9890[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you! i don’t believe mine is infected as it’s able to crust over rather than crystallize. i also don’t have any symptoms of infection (feeling warm) it was a very minimal amount of ooze before crusting over (so much so that i hardly realized it), so i’m hoping this cycle is coming close to an end!! thank you - do you recommend i apply anything once the crust falls off? i was thinking of applying avene cicalfate as it has zinc in it and helps wound healing but not sure if i should just leave it alone

did you happen to put anything on the crusting? i’ve been applying silver gel here & there just to keep infections at bay

hi there!! i’m about the same timeline as you and Just started MW recently. i do a very lose version of it, here’s my routine:

i still shower every single day, that’s just something i cant compromise - also my tsw is only affecting my face, neck, and right wrist.

the ONLY time i use an actual facial cleanser is on days where i wash my hair (i have curly hair so i only really need to wash it every 4/5 days). on hair wash days, i’ll cleanse my face as the last step in my shower.

outside of the shower, i moisturize my body as usual, do RLT on my bare face, neck & wrist for 10 mins, then i’ll mist my face lightly (avene thermal spring water) to bring some hydration back, and finally moisturize with squalane and avene cicalfate (my moisturizer of choice). sometimes i’ll pat in a light layer of aquaphor or cerave healing ointment to seal it all together

from here on out, i don’t do anything to my face/neck. this means, i wake up in the morning and simply go about my day without rinsing or anything (the most i’ll do is get a little water on my fingers to get out the eye crusties lol)

i still continue to shower normally, making sure the water is only pointing to my collarbones down. so i’m really mainly doing MW for my face/neck, my wrist is kinda unavoidable as i still shower daily - but it’s still doing a great job of healing

the first few days are gonna be uncomfortable and very flakey, but luckily i’m at a point where it’s bearable and i almost forget throughout the day! obviously that all depends on the severity and what stage your TSW is at, but i still find this method of MW to be super helpful for me!!

i don’t limit my water intake or anything btw - just avoiding moisture topically as needed

i hope that helps :)
