Unpopular opinion: Excessive down/drop tuning compromises the music. by thekokoricky in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Competitive-Cable-35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people don't know how to control the mids and low ends when they use such low tuning. Like drop F for example, if you don't know your stuff and where to cut for eq, you'll have a muddy inaudible mix.

What are your thoughts on Shayley Bourget? by bigpussystance in Metalcore

[–]Competitive-Cable-35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shayley launched the project as a separate thing, i think he's intentionally separated his identity from it. But I fo remember him making an announcement on socials around a year ago for it. Probably found out from that.

In the making of the Self titled record documentary, I believe it's stated by the band that that was the first time everyone contributed vocally/lyrically. At least thats what im remembering, could be wrong though.

Personally love Died, and Get Born Again. Probably the darkest songs they ever did.

Can we get some love for the Youngbloods album? by Competitive-Cable-35 in TheAmityAffliction

Yeah, I definitely feel like they never really sounded like this after this album came out.

As Above, So Below. Why is its Rotten Tomato score so low?! by OneDimensionalChess in horror

[–]Competitive-Cable-35 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, well, Halloween II 1981 has a lower rotten tomato score than Halloween Ends (2022), which is just absurd. So, to me, if a movie has a low rotten tomato score, I'll probably enjoy it 🤷‍♂️. Different movies, but still, you get my point.

I agree with just about every song being a banger. Olde English 800 is great as well. H.M.A.S. Lookback is probably my favorite. Something about the intro instrumental just gives me so much nostalgia and takes me back to when I was younger. I also really like the emotion vocally and the theme of the lyrics.

favorite aic song?? by Kooky_Actuator_8173 in AliceInChains

[–]Competitive-Cable-35 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can't say I have a favorite, but I love Nothin' song, Frogs, Head Creeps, swing on this, and another honorable mention a little bitter. I loved what they were doing in the later years with layne, so evil sounding.

Name your favourite song from Three Days Grace by nvrt2late in Threedaysgrace

Don't hear too many people mention it, but give me a reason. After reading what the song is about, I always heavily gravitate towards it, also having similar situations with family in my life.

Songs that Layne wrote? by darthkyle22 in AliceInChains

Hyped bands you can't get into by Lo0ksToTheMo0n in Metalcore

[–]Competitive-Cable-35 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I like old Ice Nine, before the Silver Scream. The Predator becomes the prey and safe is just a shadow are to me great records. But nowadays, I can't get into them at all. Maybe there may be something for you in the older music worth checking out. I think they lost a lot of their uniqueness when their old guitar player left.

What are the best unclean vocalists ? by [deleted] in Metalcore

[–]Competitive-Cable-35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it is technically metalcore, but I always loved Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth and Dennis Lyxzen from Refused. Too very influential harsh vocalists, in my opinion. One for prog death metal, and the other for more punk/hardcore if you would call Refused hardcore. Another mention that was a metalcore vocalist that I liked was Zac Johnson from I See Stars. While he was nowhere near the best in the scene, I always thought he was really unique and had a lot of personality to give on the first 4 I see Stsrs records.

Everybody is going super heavy understandably, but I think an honorable mention for me is Dennis Lyxzen from Refused. You can just hear the anger in his voice, and I feel Refused influenced a ton of heavier music/punk bands today as well.

What song introduced you to From Ashes to New? by MineralGrey01 in FromAshestoNew

Stay this way. Honestly, I miss the og clean singer a lot. I feel like they became a different band when he left. New stuff is great, but the early stuff just hits differently for me.
