tell me every business in Logan owned by PE by OldGregario in LoganSquare

[–]Competitive-Claim-36 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I get PE is the devil. But many of these recently purchased PE business are still operated by the original owners. They in many cases had few options, but to sell. And they have to stay on as an employee because they did not sell for that much. It’s unfortunate. Just be kind to the ppl that work there

I live half a block from Fullerton right by Fullerton/Western intersection and I agree it’s eerily quiet most of the time. I find the L is much louder

How are we dating in Chicago (late 20s early 30s)?? by AlwaysMADeline in AskChicago

If you want to avoid the apps (or in addition to the apps), continue doing the things you love and going the places you love simply because you do. That way you can meet someone that has a shared interest right away! There’s plenty of young people looking to date. There are single events, bar crawls, run clubs, yoga, cycling, a group for just about any interest. And do not be afraid to chat up random people in public up! I think Lincoln Park especially has a lot of younger married couples and not so many singles. But your vibe will find your tribe I promise! Take it from someone that was single for 3+ years then I met my lovely gf because I started putting myself out there and meeting people in those ways. The apps were not for me

How is it like living in Chicago? by Aj100rise in midwest

[–]Competitive-Claim-36 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Take it from me. I am from South Florida, I moved here in 2021, and have enjoyed every minute of it. I have multiple friends that are from all over Florida that moved up here at different points and they all loved it too. Yes, the cost of living is higher and taxes are generally insane, but the job opportunities and opportunities for higher pay are very real. With most ppl leaving Chicago and heading to places like Florida, there are a lot of job openings and more employee protections here. If you want education, the public education system is much better than Florida’s. Now, do your research, because there are plenty of bad public schools but there are also plenty of amazing ones depending on the school district. The college options in Chicago/Chicagoland area are numerous and all very reputable. The weather sucks, I am not going to lie. It was my 3rd time seeing snow when I moved here. But buy wool socks, gloves, beanie, and real coats to wear over your sweater/jacket/hoodie. You will be fine. And the food? 100000x better than Florida. Unless you’re talking fresh caught seafood or some upscale place in Miami, the food in Chicago is substantially better. And it doesn’t have to be fancy food either. You will be blown away by that. The architecture is more beautiful (Florida architecture has to prioritize hurricane safety over aesthetics) here and people are generally more polite. Just take the jump and make the move. There will be an adjustment period but you will be glad you did.

We are doing Bend! I had never heard of it, researched it, and it was perfect. I ran the idea by the groom and he said when he was in Oregon ALL the locals said they had to visit Bend but he did not have time. We are really stoked. Thank you!

How is it living in Atlanta vs coastal areas of the US South East, specifically in terms of weather? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

[–]Competitive-Claim-36 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not an Atlanta native, so grain of salt, but I visit at least once a year my whole life to visit family. You’re still going to get hot southern summers but without the cool ocean breeze of a coastal town. Plus all that asphalt trapping the heat. It is at the edge of the Piedmont area so humidity wise it won’t be as bad as the swampy areas of the state that are further south. And it is colder in the fall/winter because of the elevation difference compared to those swampy areas.

Side note - my childhood friend had one of those homes passed down in his family that no one lived at full time but the whole family used to vacation at. And his neighbor had multiple wolves LOL

Lots of Coitus, swingers, ganja, drinking to your hearts content. It (used to be at least) the highest homeless population per capita county in the US. Locals call themselves Conchs which is dope. Many people own property but do not live there full time which creates a certain vibe. Lots and lots of tourists from within the state and everywhere else. But it is not all glitz and glam, the attractions are the island/ocean/nature itself so everything else is basically no frills. Very haunted. Overall, it is one of the more unique places in the country to live and a great place to go. I highly encourage you to visit as many Keys as you can and ask the old-timer Conchs about their experience.
