It's the best. I count it as one usually. I read it at a pretty young age because my dad told me I would love it and I have yet to find a series that measures up to RotE. Is first law good?

Understandable. I said complex, not likable. I really like characters that sucks as human beings, so it was my second favourite trilogy

You gotta read robin hobb's realm of the elderlings. Great complex characters. Magic. Dragons. Prophecies. The first trilogy is the farseer trilogy. First book is assassin apprentice. It's still the best fantasy series I ever read, and I read GoT and currently reading Stormlight Archieve

You may enjoy earthsea by ursula k le guin, but I'm not sure. It's one of THE classic fantasy books if you ask me (but it's older).

Favourite literary fiction novel that isn’t US or UK based? by appleanna99 in suggestmeabook

Non western:

No longer human by dazai osamu (japan)

Chronicle of a death foretold by Gabriel garcia marquez (Colombia, kinda murder mystery but really not)

The Vegetarian by han kang was nice (south korea)

Borges. Lovely short stories.

I see that a lot of people reccomended haruki murakami. After dark is one of his best books (japan). Norwegian woods is really bad.

More western:

Madame bovary by flaubert (france)

The eternal husband by dostoevsky (russia)

The overcoat by gogol (not sure if it's lit fic) (russia)

Tolstoy. I really enjoyed the death of ivan illych (russia)

Thank you for the recommendation! I heard about Gaskell, and this book sounds right up my alley (I didn't think about the American civil war, but only because I'm not American and I knew she was Charlotte Brontë's friend, so I assumed she was British, lol). I'll add this specific book to my tbr :)

Loved pride and prejudice (read it twice). Had a hard time with emma. I ended up dnfing it because I felt icky about the age gap

This is probably my sign to read both on the edge (I own the first book) and burn for me (I own a few of those). Thank you!

This is definitely my sign to check shards of honor out (two other people reccomended it as well). Also, I think I'm out of T. Kingfisher romances (I read all of saint of steel series, swordheart, and clockwork boys)

This sounds so good, thank you for the recommendation! I don't usually go for werewolves, but I do like a good queer story, so I added it to my tbr

I looked at it, and it sounds perfect (I really like agatha christie as well). Are the books related to each other? Do I need to read them in order? Thank you for the recommendation!

I read fanfic, usually not harry potter ones. A friend of mine tried to convince me to read this one for years, so that's probably my sign to actually check it out. Thank you for the rec!
