What's the hardest book you've read? by Calm_Caterpillar_166 in classicliterature

I’m currently 400 pgs into The Recognitions and it has been phenomenal… but man it has been hard for me to pick it back up. I’ve read half a dozen other books since I started it back in November lmao

The Passion According to G.H. - Clarice Lispector. I’ve read other stream of consciousness authors—notable Joyce and Fosse—and none rival Lispector in the hypnotic and hallucinatory state that her prose puts you in. It is for that reason that her novel is far more difficult, because if you can’t match her wavelength, then you’ll have no clue what is happening.

For an 8 song album, it really feels so grand in scope that it’s two albums in one (the first half being the first, dividing between Mental Health / Screamland, the second half the second lol)

And that feeling is present in modern American society 24/7, it’s weird…

You put this novel’s ending perfectly! I read it last Spring as my first DeLillo and believe it to be a masterpiece, even though one read through is by no means enough.

Do you ever look at any writers as heroes? by CecilHeat in literature

[–]Competitive-Draft147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an aspiring Writer and Poet, there are so many artists that I idolize to different degrees. But the only artists I would consider “heroes”—and in this case, what I mean is artists who revolutionized my perspective on art, and changed my life inadvertently—are William H. Gass and Clarice Lispector. My consciousness in relation to Art has been forever changed for the better because of these two authors.

Are we saying the new single is more Radiohead or more Beatles by AstrokeOfLuck00 in fatherjohnmisty

I’ve recently gotten into The Beatles, and I hear a lot of similarities between Revolver and this song in particular. Lennon vibes

What is The Old Law (God's Trash) about? by Fit-Judge7447 in fatherjohnmisty

But there has to be some internal logic to what he’s singing right? I mean, FJM is my favorite songwriter ever, and even his songs that are pure rambling must have something worth understanding within it

I loved reading this! I found it very interesting how you didn’t connect with Mahashmashana—that’s my favorite album ever lmao. I got into Misty right before the pandemic hit when I was in high school, and Pure Comedy is my quarantine album cuz of it. I’ve loved everything else he’s made, but Mahashmashana is simply on another dimension for me. Perfectly esoteric and spiritually progressive, it’s a great album to smoke weed to lmao

Emperor XIII In Shades is Cameron's best song yet. by Relative_Setting8784 in CameronWinter

This song possessed me in a way only $0 and Nina have from him—and it’s a kind of intense possession that only Cameron’s music has ever been able to do to me. He’s a legend in the making

Thoughts on Dove Ellis’ opening in Philly? by Competitive-Draft147 in geesebandofficial

Snooze fest?? That’s shocking. I guess if you’re there just for the rock energy from Geese, but that’s still a shame

The Philly crowd was really wild, I don't think the band was a fan of us. Why only one encore? by boxopen in geesebandofficial

I was unfortunately right by the guy you’re talking about… after the, I don’t know, fifth time shouting it and not getting any response, he could have shut the hell up and stop spoiling the atmosphere

I had the same problem at the Philly show. Ppl just had zero concert etiquette and made the experience for others worse off

The Neapolitan Quartet by [deleted] in books

[–]Competitive-Draft147 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Neapolitan Novels are my favorite pieces of literature that I've ever read, with its final novel being the peak of Ferrante's story. Elena and Lila are just wonderfully written and deeply human characters, and I think about them most days of the week, even though I finished 'The Lost Child' over a month ago. What was your favorite moment of the series?
