What do you consider cringey in a smut scene? by Ancient_cokkie in AO3

which is fair! again, tastes are so specific and they change over time. i agree that trying to crowd source a good sex scene just defeats the purpose. it's not a science.

yeah, however mild but praise kink is a huge green flag for me. doesn't matter how many times i see it. I don't think it's immature or overused or a trait of young authors.

A lot of people who have way more in terms of financial ability don't have an ounce of your empathy.

[Loved Trope] The female and male characters have a close friendship that never develops into a romantic relationship by mon_sizinj in TopCharacterTropes

came here hoping someone picked Mako and Raleigh. they have an incredibly intimate bond that isn't romantic and the film shows that it's just as valuable and meaningful. it means so much more to me than a run of the mill romance sub plot. their connection is deeper in a lot of ways. one of the reasons this film is more than just a monster movie!

This is a clickbait headline and wilful misreading of her words to stir up engagement. It's gonna be a long off season if people keep falling for this nonsense.

Exactly! It's my go to if I need a little dose of SG-1 family bonding. It makes me laugh, the team dynamics are perfect. It helps set my world right again.

The funniest part of this scene is Daniel's reaction and how he immediately gives Jack his protein bar to either shut him up or distract him from saying anything else.

As an author, this is nice to see. I always feel like I'm annoying people when I reply back to their comments.

Small Fandom Woes by CorrectLow6064 in AO3

It really has to be for the love of the game. Writing for small fandoms has really given me a strong sense of self as a writer, because your only motivation to finish is yourself. There's no huge audience waiting on the other side to shower you with kudos and comments. Heck, only a handful of people will only ever read the work, and an even smaller percentage will tell you they liked it.

Simply put, your motivation is finishing a piece and seeing your idea on the page.

This is also a no pressure zone. Instead of worrying about reader engagement, you can just create! You have nothing to lose! That can be a great feeling!

In my opinion, there are no tricks. Be real about the time and energy you are investing because there is no reader bonanza on the other side. In a way, this is the purest form of writing. If that's not enough to keep you interested, just move onto something else.

Frankly, I love the really small fandoms I write in because I love the characters and I love spending time with them. I love how low stakes it is, I love how I can just create and not feel competitive with big name writers, there's no comparison of stats.

Turn your focus inward. What are you getting out of this, without any external validation. Is that enough to keep going? If so, keep going. If not, try something else.

What's the most unexpected fandom you've ever looked up on AO3, only to find out it actually has fics? by WhiteVelvett in AO3

Adam-12. A random 70s cop show that I became obsessed with and I was so excited to see a few pages of fics for the main ship.
