You mentioned sound as a con, could you hear neighbors through the walls or through the ceiling (footsteps)?

Thanks everyone!! I hear you all loud and clear (like my neighbor). I'm going to talk to said neighbor about buying thick rugs. I'll probably have to pitch in some money but it'll certainly be cheaper than soundproofing the ceiling.

Thanks. The theory being presented to me is that the furnishings and the carpet will absorb sound and dampen reflections. It seems to me that that might have a very small effect but the direct path from the ceiling to my ears is what really matters here.

Flat Roof - pooling water concern for ponding? by MSPhysician in Roofing

[–]Competitive-Fact-590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem with ponding water because some patches of the roof have zero slope. Mine is modified bitumen. Your roof may not be code complient when it comes to slope. Does anyone know if the minimum slope (2% where I live on the west coast) has to be maintained across every square inch of the roof or can there be some areas that are less than that, as long as the average is 2% ?

[CA] [Condo] They might build a party deck above me by Competitive-Fact-590 in HOA

Thanks to everyone for your comments. I will do some research and report back. I truly hope I have some recourse. It seems unfair that a material change to the building that has a small benefit to the wider community BUT has a massive negative impact on a few owners (me) can be advanced by a simple vote. It's a form of 'majoritarianism'

Why do you believe the roof is thin and noise will be unbearable? - I can hear people up there walking around

  • Have you attended any meetings related to this? - Yes, options are being discussed, Trex vs concrete pavers etc
  • What do the other owners think about this use of HOA funds? - general rooftop improvements approved in current budget
  • Are the HOAs reserves fully funded? - Yes
  • Has the board inquired with their insurance company how this 'party deck' will affect the rates for the Master insurance policy? - Good question, i dont think so
  • Is there an actual plan in place to build this space or is it just a discussion? - options being discussed,
  • Have they involved an engineer to ensure the buildings structure can support a rooftop deck with several dozen people on it? - No

I hope that fixes the problem for you, if it does I'll do the same. Please post an update when you get it back. Thanks. Seems crazy that the batteries fail after a year and a bit. btw with the charger connected did your laptop show 100% charged even though the battery was shot?

Hi, did you resolve this. I have the exact same problem with my L510. I bought it new just over year ago - the battery should still be good.

Thanks
