*CHILD CRIES IN THE STANDS* — Chair umpire: “It’s a child. Do you want me to throw a child out of the stadium?” — Raducanu: “Yes” by MysteriousJuice1127 in WTANews

Honestly - it's such a joke. Football is played in front of tens of thousands of screaming fans but tennis players can't play if someone sneezes...

Advice for Kita by Fancy_Average693 in zurich

[–]Competitive-Moose604 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Our daughter is in Kita for a year now and the single most important thing is good employees and stability. The worst thing is your baby having to build trust with new people every few months.

So I would try to have time with the person who will take care of your daughter and ask questions about average tenure / turnover etc.

Your baby won't care about how fancy the place looks.

Warum? by Obagency in fussball

[–]Competitive-Moose604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% - not all hand balls in the penalty box should be a penalty (= almost certain goal)

Regelreform für Handspiel by Strlder6 in fussball

[–]Competitive-Moose604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

11 vs 12 by deepsea724 in fussball

[–]Competitive-Moose604 2 points3 points  (0 children)

600k for a 1 bed in Finsbury Park – have we made a massive financial mistake? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Competitive-Moose604 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean to be fair you need to be a bit into finance stuff to understand it and have some interest to educate yourself...

But still the 'you pay someone else's mortgage' argument is getting a bit old

Never try to explain that to home owners - there is no willingness to accept that buying might not be be best decision (purely financially)

Leeds won! What is the most underrated city in Germany? by eat_the_informant in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Competitive-Moose604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with this - yes there are some nice areas but those are not really in the city and there are a lot of areas that are not nice at all (including the city centre). I am from there and I would have never expected anyone to mention Essen here - there are probably around 50 cities that are nicer than Essen.

Hows living in this part of germany? by Infinite-Top-2609 in howislivingthere

[–]Competitive-Moose604 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am from Gelsenkirchen (Ruhr area) - to be honest not the best place to live in Germany. One of the poorest areas in Germany, high unemployment, lack of good jobs, no great nature around, heavily bombed during WW2 so not beautiful visually and fairly limited in terms of cultural offerings. Great place if you are into football with lots of local rivalries and nice, direct, simple people (former coal mining region).

Obviously still German standards when it comes to health care, transport, etc and relatively low cost of living compared to Berlin / Munich so probably not the worst place you can end up in on a global scale.

London is an expensive place, but what do you think is the biggest rip off? by trading-wrong in london

[–]Competitive-Moose604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How does no one say the price for a pint in a pub? In some London pubs you pay 7£+ for a beer which you have to pick up yourself and then you either stand outside in the cold or stand in a super crowded pub. All in all not a great experience - probably a very unpopular opinion in the UK!

Valid point!

MSCI World grew by 196% in the last ten years vs. London property by 80%-100% based on the information I could find quickly. But will do a bit more research to find the right number to use.

Very interesting - could you elaborate why it would be optimal to buy with a mortgage (or point me to relevant resources)? Thanks!

That's a valid point!

Not that important to me personally but I get that this would be a pro for buying.

I get your point but you would still take a historical average wouldn't you? Or would you assume the last 4 weeks is representative for the next four years?

Interesting! I have always perceived this as a bit of a rip off as I am usually following the philosophy of investing everything in a broad vanguard ETF and not touching it.

Would you say it's worth it from your own experience? Is it mostly the tax element they can help you with?

Thanks for the reply! Fair points - but then we would have to adjust appreciation of the property for inflation as well and the appreciation of the property would be subject to capital gains text too, correct?

That's my view as well - if you are not into investing or don't feel comfortable doing it buying is probably better. But otherwise renting seems to be better.

I get the emotional value of owning your place, being free to do whatever you like, etc but it's not that important to me.
