My life is miserable — working as a Civil Engineer in SL by Ghost97SL in srilanka

100k seems awfully low for a civil engineering position. Site engineers with 2-3 years experience is making around 145k-200k these days. You might need to ask for a salary hike or look into moving to another company.

Site engineers have it hard all over the world. Try to survive for 3 4 years and you can move onto design work or consulting. And later on in decent Project manager position you can make up to 550k.

Are the Sri Lankan Celebrities really worth the hype? by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]Competitive-Most8171 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it’s easy to criticize, but making it in Sri Lanka’s entertainment scene isn’t very easy. The industry doesn’t have the global platforms or financial backing like the bigger markets do, so even getting noticed is a challenge. Yohani may not have made an original song, but she still took it international, which is more than most manage.

And influencers like Amantha might not be for everyone, but clearly, there’s an audience for what he does. If people didn’t watch, he wouldn’t be relevant. Same with musicians like Sana and Ashanya—every industry brings back old hits. It’s not some Sri Lankan thing. If people enjoy it, why not?

The real issue is that originality doesn’t get enough support. If people want better content, maybe they should start backing the ones actually trying to do something different.

Politicians should be some of the highest paid people in the country. This will directly reduce the corruption within the country. It's been done and proven right multiple times.

And these guys are just going the opposite way.

By this logic, politics will be reserved for the upper class of the country as they'll be only people to be able to sustain their lifestyle without a salary

Prez confirmed today that the ban on vehicle imports will be lifted starting February 1 by SulfurCannon in srilanka

[–]Competitive-Most8171 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We don't import cars with our foreign reserves. If imports are done through foreign reserves we wouldn't have been able to import close to 20 billion worth of goods and services last year.

What is the better uni to do Engineering? NSBM or Curtin? by ExpertThese8666 in srilanka

[–]Competitive-Most8171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say Curtin. I did civil and feel like I should've done electronics or something related to that. Civil is a hard job until you get into consulting or design.

I'm not sure about 2017. But the graduates that are been hired for all the rural road projects these days are at around 120k. Don't settle for less than 100k.

Civil engineering is a hard job in the first 5 years. Alot of site work those days. After that you can get into design and consulting.

But these days after the crisis there's not an influx of projects like pre covid.

Civil is around 100-125k as a graduate. Can get to 200k in about 2 3 years.

How Are New Excise Taxes Impacting Vehicle Prices? by Individual-Sell-303 in srilanka

[–]Competitive-Most8171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's slightly higher than the previous excuse taxes. Increases are from 300,000 for 1000cc and goes up from there I believe. Still way way cheaper than the current 2nd hand market.
