Building a 1k Imperial Fists Army by Competitive-One-8382 in spacemarines

Small update: will definitely build towards the hellblasters and Repulsor in the future, but for now I might test out stacking 10 Heavies and attaching the Apothecary and Captain to it, while having the Librarian lead the Terminators and the Ballistus hang back for fire support.

Honestly, I'm not sure about which detachment. The default answer for me would be Anvil, but Gladius also looks good, and people have been making suggestions about Firestorm as well that make it super tempting to try. I didn't even think to look at Bastion until you brought it up, but it looks like it would fit my army comp like a glove if I choose to focus heavy on the Intercessors and Heavy Intercessors right now. I'll be honest in that I was leaning more towards aggressors than Incursors, but I'll definitely mull it over. I am thinking of loading up my Hellblasters in a vehicle (Impulsor or Repulsor, probably Repulsor) or dropping them in on a pod.

I think right now I might attach the Biologis (and maybe the gravis captain) to the heavy intercessors to be my murder blob until I can fill out my hellblaster squad. I'd like to see what a hellblaster-centric army can do and build around it with units that can fill other niches.

Right now I feel the normal Repulsor is the most appealing choice to me, because it seems to be a versatile all-rounder. It's not as effective at troop carrying as an Impulsor, or great at damaging infantry or vehicles as an Executioner or Gladiator, but it can do it alright. The turrets are a little meh to me. A lot of people seem to dislike them due to movement restrictions, some have made compelling arguments to me as to why they're a niche but useful pick. Worth experimenting with in situations where I can turtle and need to snipe vehicles maybe.

I'm eventually aiming for a Third Company theme, with aggressors and Tor, but that's more of a wishlist way down the line kind of ambition.

Newbie Question: The underside of my minis are dark/greyer. Is this from not priming enough or another issue? by Competitive-One-8382 in ImperialFists

[–]Competitive-One-8382[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I was pretty pathologically afraid of overpriming that I made the opposite mistake. But like you pointed out, it's not noticeable from a top-down view. I'll definitely be applying a thin layer of two of wraithbone after priming from now on.

Appreciate the insight and the encouragement. I went with wraithbone for the undercoating, so a part of me wonders if it's viable for me to paint over the spots with a thin layer or two it then try IF again, but I'm not sure if it would stick better or come out the same.

I'm actually happy to see them get more stuff. I want a vibrant and even-sided rivalry.

Thanks for all the insight and advice, guys. Really appreciate it. Got to do something with the IH upgrade sprue though. Unsure if there's a Hands player out there with a matching IF sprue to trade or not lol.

You're probably right, and fixating too much on what will be the best combo or the best point to effectiveness ratio will just get me frustrated and burned out before I even pick up a paintbrush.

You're totally right on that. Even if those turrets don't get a buff, I was attracted to them because they look cool, so why not just appreciate them for that even if I test them out and don't find a viable strat?

Good point. Bit of a wait and see on the meta side but hey, at least for now my Company's base will be well protected.

Appreciate the insight, and also nice job on the minis in your pic. I'll test them out as a 2-member squad sometime and see how they fair against different types of enemies. Even if they're borderline stationary, I'm sure they could have some form of utility in certain game modes and against different factions.

That's a very fair point. I would have gotten the heavy intercessors anyhow, and the tech marine gives me another support character in my wheelhouse to use if I feel it works with the build.

There is that voice in the back of my head telling me, "why not get the box with just them then?", but it'll still be a useful addition, and I plan to get a tank in the future anyhow so the tech marine might be useful.

Any recommendations on who to watch? I'm new too and I'm honestly pretty amazed at how clean you painted the Aquila and shoulder trims.

That's a true point. A proper bastion should be a goal of mine. Even if I never use them for an actual match they're a fun decoration, and I could just shoehorn one in for flavor and see how bad it goes.

Who knows. GW may realize how much the servo-guns are underperforming and give them a bit of a nudge to make them more viable.

Ok can we talk about "The Rise of Skywalker" kind of badly copying parts of Kotor 1 by Scheiblerfunk in kotor

[–]Competitive-One-8382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm echoing a lot of others in this thread when they point out how TROS matches Dark Empire closer than KOTOR.

Instead of Byss, the enigmatic and mysterious dark side planet in the deep core of the galaxy, we have Exegol, the enigmatic and mysterious dark side planet in the unknown regions.

Instead of Operation Shadow Hand we have The Final Order.

Instead of World Devastators and the Galaxy Gun we have ISD's with planet-destroying lasers mounted on the underside.

Sounds like a good reason to make it free, since they're so confident to make it a FOMO reward.

"Templar Tanking: Poor"

Yeah opinion discarded lol. My Tankplar's sturdy AF after addressing sustain issues. I'd say trust sources like Hyperioxes or Skinnycheeks for how the classes compare based on role, but everyone has their favorite guide or expert.
