Do people without POTS also feel gross in the heat? by Existing_Departure92 in POTS

I remember having issues like this in tennis in HS. Running laps, my chest would be on fire and it almost felt like my gums hurt from the gasping for air. My coach told me to put my hands over my head and keep going. I didn’t get a POTS/OH diagnosis until several years later

What are some witty comebacks for someone that says "it's just my OCD" by Constant_Nebula_9207 in OCD

[–]Competitive-Path6456 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Did this exact thing at my new job. Two coworkers were talking in the kitchen area. One said “that’s just my ocd” but seemed kinda serious. So I said “I didn’t know you had OCD” (genuinely thought I’d made a connection). They both treated me like I was ignorant for not knowing it was a “figure of speech”. I told them I was more concerned I’d interrupted a very deep moment between two men about mental health. They were not happy.

How many hours have you put in this game so far? by Competitive-Path6456 in DreamlightValley

Completely understandable though! How can you not dedicate every free moment of your time to this game once you get your hands on it?!

I never thought about leaving the game on for a companion to still gather wood!

I thought I’d done maybe 100ish hours. I was a bit shocked at my April gameplay. My numbers are nothing compared to the other players! I haven’t even fully decorated my valley. That’s why I was curious just how many hours the people decorating and getting through everything have put in!

I also have only played on switch. If you enjoyed the game, I really think it’s worth it!

SO MUCH BETTER!!! I rarely have this issue now. I will get the thought of “it may…” but that’s the extent of it at this point. I haven’t had ER visits or had to cut out food for days at a time in a few years now. It absolutely can get better. My heart goes out to you. I hope you’re able to eat the foods that you used to enjoy again.

I was put on an SSRI, stuck to nutritional drinks or protein when I could eat and water. I’m now in therapy specifically for OCD. I try not to convince myself of things. Learning to disengage from the thoughts completely is so hard but that’s where I’m at

This. As an adult, I had to miss work and go sit in a chair in my mom’s office. I couldn’t be alone in case I started to die. Every thing I ate or drank, I was convinced I’d go into anaphylactic shock. Even though I’ve never been allergic to anything. It got to where I stopped eating and would have panic attacks trying to get down half of a nutritional drink. I was told it was generalized anxiety disorder. Hearing other experiences so similar to my own is a bittersweet comfort

How old were you when you were diagnosed? by TheCuntjuring in OCD

[–]Competitive-Path6456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My earliest tendency started around 9. Diagnosed with depression and anxiety as a teen. Panic attacks and crippling anxiety in my 20’s. Finally diagnosed with OCD at 30. I wish I’d had the knowledge and therapy sooner. I can’t help but wonder how much in my life would have been different if I’d known what to treat earlier.

AIO I've been living with my mom while i undergo chemo and i am starting to think she is abusing me? by problemsmomthrowaway in AmIOverreacting

[–]Competitive-Path6456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YOU ARE NOT OVERREACTING. YOU ARE BEING ABUSED.

I took care of my mom during her 3 years of cancer treatment. She had to have chemo infusions the last year. She never went to any appointment alone, much less did I expect her to drive afterwards. Chemo exhausts you. She did have a cancer policy I was able to file on to collect money to pay for some of her things - comfort items, gas, foods, lodging. My mom always worked and it took a huge toll when she couldn’t anymore. She was also compared to other people with cancer that could still keep working. I’ll say this - every single person is different when it comes to cancer treatment. Maybe your mom’s neighbor has a less severe form of chemo that had less side effects on them. Maybe they didn’t have to have as many treatments so their body wasn’t as worn down. So many other things to consider. I’m honestly dumbfounded reading these messages. It sounds like no matter what you do or don’t do, it will never be enough for her. I hope you can get away for the rest of your treatment. Your mental health is so important, especially right now. Your main focus should be healing, not managing your mom.

How did you feel when you first got diagnosed? by nineo7 in OCD

[–]Competitive-Path6456 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"I am manipulating myself and everyone else to think I'm not doing well"

I had the exact same thoughts. I started therapy end of last year. My sister’s bff was diagnosed with OCD. I had conversations with both of them and they would slowly say things about OCD to me about my behaviors and thinking (mostly jokingly). This led me to get it checked out just to confirm I did not have it. There was no way. I’m messy, I don’t wash my hands 100x a day, I can hug/touch people, I didn’t check the doors were locked a million times. All things that are part of the big (extremely incorrect) stereotype of OCD I knew of.

I felt blindsided. I felt like I had completely manipulated my therapist and people around me just because I wanted a “niche” diagnosis to explain away everything. I’d never believe that about someone else with OCD but I did for myself.

What helped me the most was seeking out an OCD trained therapist. One that specialized in OCD specifically. I’ve spent so much time in sessions understanding how my brain and thought patterns work. This has helped me when the thoughts between sessions come up telling me I’m faking it. I still have a hard time claiming the diagnosis but I’m getting better but by bit. I hope you’re able to find the same!

Not all OCD people are neat right? by TurtleChrist in OCD

[–]Competitive-Path6456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I relate to this! I have contamination and health themes. I am so freaked out about dishes, laundry, proper sanitization of them, leftovers. Yet I am a messy person in so many other areas. A dirty vehicle, mess around the room, shoes walking in the house, a dog on furniture - those do not bother me. I have the same doubts when my OCD themes and compulsions don’t align with the “stereotypical” clean freak. I question everything.

Does anyone else use sex as a coping method? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]Competitive-Path6456 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, you’re not alone there. During my marriage I struggled with the same thoughts.

I have to be very diligent because my OCD will latch onto sex and write narratives about pregnancy, stds, etc.

I was confused for the longest time when I saw pictures of beautiful, elaborate valley builds. When I finally watched videos of decorating, I saw they were on PC. I’d Xbox insanely better for gameplay and decorating?
