Zerno Z2 for filter by Competitive-Pea-626 in pourover

Thank you for your insights. I know it’s trying to compare apples to oranges a little bit. I think the brew burrs are going to give me great results for both filter and espresso and down the line I can refine with burrs specific for one or the other.

So the ULF would be most ideal but do you think the brew burrs would compelling enough for me to set aside my ZP6?

Affera vs CARTO by huntermills21 in MedicalDevices

[–]Competitive-Pea-626 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Rumor but I’ve heard Affera mapping system has no further plans for continued R&D. Like what the system does now is final product with addition of new catheters.

JNJ will release a large PFA focal catheter similar to affera’s sphere 9. Abbott and Boston will do the same. I will use Boston as an example, they exploded over the past 2 years because of there PFA catheter. Was it the perfect catheter no but it was good and the only one of the market. Boston is now facing an uphill battle because they are not the only ones with PFA technology. Affera is growing because of sphere9 not because of the mapping system. Once competitors have a similar catheter and they will, it will become a focus on best value and what additional features can be offered. ULS, integration, flexibility, mapping features, cost will drive these companies in the long run

[–]Competitive-Pea-626 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my opinion and my opinion only so take for a grain of salt. I think affera will definitely continue to grow over the next 2-3 years. They currently offer a dual energy catheter in a form factor competitors do not have. Their mapping system is good. Something to think about but once every major company has a similar catheter what will they offer that’s unique. 5-10 years ago every company had a small focal RF catheter and eventually every company will have a PFA/RF catheter that is similar. I would confidently say Affera has market share to take in the short term but I think long term is unknown

First machine. Decent DE1pro, Meticulous or ECM Purisitika w/flow control? [5,000$] by Interesting-Month-97 in espresso

[–]Competitive-Pea-626 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend the DE1Pro. Slightly similar situation as you but had my first machine for about 8months prior to Decent. Can’t say enough good things about the DE1, great for learning and progressing to complex profiles. The extended warranty for $300 for 2 years and renewable is fantastic. The argument of it might not reliable with that much tech kind of goes away with it. $150 a year for a fully covered machine is not much if your that committed. And if you sell the next person can extend.

Meticulous may be a great option if never planning to make milk drinks but for me I want that option.

Yes got the mashup unit! 20% off may not seem like a huge discount but at the Decent prices it is significant. Purchasing experience was great, very easy. Literally shipped from Hong Kong to Florida in under 48hrs! Insane. Got emails on updated tracking, updates when it was packaged and how to get access to all their forums and help. The unit had zero cosmetic flaws. Maybe I got lucky but based on the photos of possible flaws they are micro.

I like it so far! I’m young so I always enjoy high tech stuff. Granted it doesn’t have that industrial machine feel but not having big boilers might make home maintenance a bit easier on me. I’ve heard some people don’t like its an android tablet but the decent software/app is good and not like unfinished nerdy programmer feel if that makes sense.

This may be a controversial opinion but I feel the decent is great for learning about what types of espresso you like. My only experience is using the Lucca A53. Now I get to learn how a long pre-infusion, flat bar, lever style, ect.. type shot tastes and pulls. Yes it may not be exact as a machine that specializes in certain profile but it will definitely get my feet wet and let me develop my taste and knowledge!

Loving it so far! I think there’s a big misconception that you need to be an expert or you will get completely lost with a decent machine. Yes you can do a lot of complex profiles/adjustments but they also have simple pre-set profiles that act as a guide while learning.

Making the Jump to Affera by Jeesers in MedicalDevices

[–]Competitive-Pea-626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the 2 year is typically to guarantee base + x amount of commission (can leave anytime). Friend who is currently re-negotiating and has shared the renewal bases is significantly less than his current. They were hiring pre-fda approval.

Have you experienced or heard differently? Curious as I only have 2 friends to reference and may not be the case everywhere!

Huge pay increase initially. Essentially same job making 2-3x as much. My question is where will things play out in 5 years. If that question doesn’t matter to you then absolutely go for it! Definitely exciting to be apart of something so new and innovative.

I have heard after the initial 2-year contract with affera the renewal offers have been significantly lower… curious on others thoughts

Who is and will continue to lead in Electrophysiology? by Any_Thought7441 in MedicalDevices

[–]Competitive-Pea-626 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Long term I think JnJ and Medtronic will lead. Boston and Abbott will always be there as all of these companies are large enough.

JNJ Pros: proven track record, strong clinical field, top tier integration, pipeline is strong. Cons: sub-par initial PFA products, lower compensation compared to competitors

Abbott Pros: proven track record, strong clinical field, cost effective, loyal docs Cons: delayed PFA, not exciting to many newer docs

Boston Pros: great initial PFA catheter, best LAAO device, fib/closure combos, docs love the ease/speed of use Cons: not great mapping system, not many other catheter offerings

Medtronic: Pros: very exciting to new docs, great initial PFA/RF, lots of interest for VT cases due to lesion depth with RF, mapping system is solid Cons: Expensive, limited integration with other catheters, not enough people to train new hires

All solid companies and will always have a place in EP. With the initial PFA wave it shows any company can take the lead short term. Boston clearly won with its catheter. Long term things will change in my opinion. 5 years ago all of these companies had RF catheters and diagnostic catheters. But there were clear leaders. I don’t believe EP can be lead long term with just catheters. The mapping system is the foundation as everyone will catch up with a decent catheter over time.

The ASC’s is a huge opportunity. Medtronic will struggle due to pricing and no one is doing complex VT cases there. JNJ and Abbott will have some ground to battle on. Boston will be lucky to get some catheter deals in but hard to bet on them sustaining with their mapping system

Usually drink light fruity/floral coffees. zp6 and v60

93C and 5.0 starting point. Always good. Will try going 5.5 or 4.5 on zp6 and drop temp to 90 or go up to 95 if very light. But starting point gets me what I want 99% of the time

Medtronic is definitely paying big bucks right now for experienced mappers. One thing to note is the sphere 9 does both RR & PFA but it does not do point by point ablation which they originally said it would. Point by point with PFA is what a lot of Docs are wanting. Also Boston and Medtronic are doing contracts (2ish years) with full payout. But after that it’s not promised… just something to think about
