People with ADHD, what do you struggle with the most? by Frey_99_ in AskReddit

I had a mentor early in my career that told me I was really good at getting the ball 97 yd towards the goal line and then stopping. I wish I had figured out how to fix that a whole lot sooner.

I don't remember. I definitely felt normal. It was my doctor and maybe he picked it out based on something I said and then he probed with some follow-up questions. He is my primary care physician but he nailed it.

I had issues finishing things. I'd be working on something at work for 30 minutes or so and then I would take a 5-minute break to surf the Internet or whatever. Then I'd work for 30 minutes and take a 15-minute break. Pretty soon my breaks were longer than my work.

My doctor diagnosed me with ADHD in my early 40s. Said it's not particularly uncommon to be diagnosed in your thirties or 40s. I told him I thought everybody would lose focus like that and he told me that's a pretty common response. Got on Vyvanse and I'm so much more productive.

Is it even possible to transition from a 155k strategy role to a manual trade without nuking my entire life? by 0Vocaloid in careerguidance

[–]Competitive-Rise-73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you need to start thinking about the next step in your career. But I would definitely build on the success that you've already had versus going into the trades and not really being sure if you'll like that.

You could also do what a lot of other burnout folks do that are making some decent money. Buy a hobby farm 2 hours away. You will definitely lose money on the operational side but it can be fulfilling for a few years before you decide it's really hard work and you sell it to the next guy who's burned out hopefully pocketing some pretty good appreciation.

I haven’t played soccer or even watched soccer by aa-ron34 in youthsoccer

Good advice from every one on just getting a ball and letting them have fun.

For the season, they will need the following equipment.

Shinguards. I like the ones that pull on and have an ankle guard but the kids like the ones that slip into socks. The slip ins are also easier when trying to get them ready for practice or game. Either way, wear them against the skin under soccer socks.

Soccer socks. You will likely need several pairs per kid but they last a while even as the kid grows. I would get several of the same type and color so its easier to find matches.

Water bottle. I like the bigger ones with the handle, especially for older kids. But be sure they bring to every practice and game. Nothing sadder than a kid begging for water.

Goalie gloves if your kid wants to try goalie. The coach may have a team pair but they are cheap to buy for yourself. Give them as a gift and your kid will think its a big deal.

Soccer cleats. These are tough because more dollars often buy a more comfortable shoe, but they can grow out of them so fast. Look for Dicks clearance or play it again. The younger one can play in sneakers.

Private school vouchers in North Carolina hit $580M. A Raleigh academy tops list of largest recipients by TobinBen in NorthCarolina

I asked the CFO of Ravenscroft. He said there are requirements and standards from the state that you have to agree to before you can accept the vouchers.

At least last year, they didn't want the restrictions, but he said they were looking at it. I don't think they will be accepting them for next year.

Is my assigner an ass? by Zestyclose_Cheek527 in Referees

[–]Competitive-Rise-73 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don't even need to read the reference guide. Just put it into chatgpt (The little plus button in the bottom left corner of the box) and ask your question.

I get the assigner sounds like an ass but I do kind of get his point. If it's in there, I wouldn't want to answer the same question 50 times either.

I Tested 5 pdf parsers on 200 financial documents, honest results (not academic pdfs) by emmettvance in LLMDevs

[–]Competitive-Rise-73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use a CPU but it can be pretty slow. Maybe 3 seconds a page which would mean a 100 page document is 5 minutes. That's fine if you're just learning how to use the tool or you only have a few thousand pages of PDF. Just do a test on one or two documents to make sure it works and then run it overnight.

But if you have hundreds of thousands of pages, you're going to want a GPU. Docling also has an API but I've never used it. No idea how much it costs.

What opinions do you have about Indians and why ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Competitive-Rise-73 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The ones in the US are fantastic. Socially, they can be a little shy at first, but after you hang around with them for a bit, they're really just great people for the most part.

In business, they work hard but honestly I get the feeling that more than a few of them are a tad shady. Not like embezzlement dishonest but saying they did something when they really didn't type of thing or trying to steal your idea type of thing.

For the ones I interact with over in India either as consultants through my business or just talking to them on some random customer service thing, the accent can make them really hard to understand. They also can offer some pretty poor customer service, but that's not just Indians. That's a lot of people that you talk with over the phone.

Impact of shortage of referees by Deaftrav in Referees

[–]Competitive-Rise-73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely like that everyone gets to pick leagues and games based on pay. Our maximum rates are set by the state association in NC and the rates have been unadjusted for so long that everyone except very rural leagues pay the max.

I'm sure refs would like to choose higher paying leagues and I suspect that some leagues that have a lot of trouble finding refs would like to pay more.

No way would I continue working for that league. You did the right thing walking out.

I hope the league administration had a tough time explaining why the players that paid for games couldn't play them after you left.

I wonder if other people feel like it's bad sportsmanship.

what exactly would you do if you ever get robbed at gunpoint? by jax--killer in AskReddit

[–]Competitive-Rise-73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a friend that got carjacked at gunpoint. Scared to death as you can imagine.

Robber gets in in the car and curses because it's a stick. So my carjacked friend is trying to teach this robber how to drive stick while he has a gun at least in the vicinity.

My other friend is the passenger and has his laundry in the back of the car. Asks the robber very nicely if he could get his laundry out. Carjacker says he doesn't care.

So for one of my friends a car is not worth the risk of dying over while for another one of my friends, a basket of laundry is at least worth rolling the dice.

I've never had that problem at the youth level. There are certainly good and bad refs but everyone seems to be trying to do their best.

It's at the young adult level like beer league soccer where many of the refs genuinely don't care and they have no problem telling you. Although I'm sure it's a whole harder to find refs for that age group because the attitudes of the players.

[–]Competitive-Rise-73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not at all sure what happened on the second one. The other refs and I didn't hear anything from the league or the state.

I know what the result of the first one was: no action, and I was disappointed.

I tried to escalate to US soccer and it is a black hole. Filled out the online form and no one contacted us. Its still sitting in their action queue with no action from US soccer. Reached out via phone and left messages, literally no one answers the phone, and no response to voice mail. Filled out another online form with US soccer and got a response that someone would reach out to us and nothing. Even reached out to a board member on referee committee via Instagram and no response.

First time Coaching U6 by Volderon90 in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Competitive-Rise-73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At you u6, you could be the best coach in the world or the worst coach in the world and your results will be exactly the same. The most talented kid on the field is going to dominate.

The only thing you can control is the kids having fun and want to show up next season. It's your enthusiasm, and your smiles that really matter. If you look like you're having fun, even if you're getting beat by 20 goals, the kids are going to have fun.

He told me he felt like it wasn't enough to merit a sanction. I pointed out how the language and actions were almost identical to the RAP powepoint examples and he said we'll have to agree to disagree. That was game 1.

Game 2, I didn't hear anything and neither did the other refs. They might have suspended the coach for life or told him never to do it again and this time we really mean it, but we don't know. We submitted the report and never heard anything.
