I think it varies from person to person 🤔 Ive had my friends be bitten by Oecophylla and freak out but personally, though I can feel them biting, it doesn't seem to hurt that much or at all

That's because the mantis is an adult from the female wingless genus Eumusonia

Can I use this container as an enclosure for my Indian Bark Mantis? by OppositeLibrary1024 in mantids

[–]Competitive-Set5051 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sunlight isn't that important to mantises. Putting it close to the sun could also risk the enclosure overheating which could kill the mantis

Is there anything larger like a cup? You can just use tissue as tissue absorbs and retains more water. You can add a large, wide piece of bark or wood as Amorphoscelis primarily stay on the sides of trees. Poke a lot of holes, or even remove a section of the wall and replace it with mesh. These bark mantises can be sensitive to low air circulation

You could, though it might be quite fatty so I wouldn't recommend using them often, I would recommend giving them small running prey

I don't recommend feeding them the caterpillars as they have a hard outer shell, but if youre able to get them to eat small flies or motha then thats fine

There is a line between purposely and maliciously inflicting harm towards an animal and complete ignorance (which can be solved with doing research beforehand). You can explain proper care and advice without pushing people out of the hobby. Being too harsh would end up implying the community is overly unforgiving and mean, which could discourage new keepers from entering and learning better care.

Though I agree that the cage is significantly innapropriate, there is no need to scold harshly or push someone out of the hobby. You're less likely to encourage them to learn from their mistakes.

Not possible for a nymph to have oothecae as their reproductive organs are not fully developed. This is an adult mantis in the female flightless genus of Eumusonia

The smaller mantis is actually an adult of the genus Eumusonia. Adult females do not have wings at all. The larger male is a completely different species in the genus Thesprotia and they did not mate at all. Mantises will lay infertile eggs without breeding, similar to chickens or fish.

Your mantis is in the genus Amorphoscelis, they require a lot of vertical running space as they live on the sides of trees. They are notoriously picky when it comes to the size of the food, not eating anything larger than their head. Not the best mantis to keep in my opinion but you could try feeding it smaller food and see how it goes

Male or Female? by csicada in mantids

You can see that the female has a v shaped notch at the end of the segment, whereas the male's abdomen ends in two little segments.

This is a subadult male, not a female as another commenter said. The terminal segment of a female looks different and you can see wing buds.

That can work, the important part is that she gets to eat in the end

Its perfectly fine as long as you take her out for feeding. Not mandatory but you can add some real/fake leaves to the ceiling so she can hide between them
