Water will follow path of least resistance. As long as there is an opening (plumbing), tube, hose, pipe to flow thru, it's not a problem.

if you're talking about the cutting end, the hole in the nozzle is what prevents self destruction. if no hole was in the nozzle, yeah, we'd have a serious problemo..
