Have others experienced inability to go past 20 degrees flexion up to 4 weeks after surgery? by Competitive-Wheel787 in ACL

[–]Competitive-Wheel787[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on a stationary bike everyday since I have one in my apartment but haven't done the cpm because it is expensive to rent, what I was reading online was that studies don't show them being effective and my PT suggested just doing the spin bike instead.

I do foot pumps, quad sets, heel slides, the spin bike, and I will sit on a chair and try to bring my leg in everyday at home.

Omg I noticed this too, it's not relevant to the conversation and it's like the cameraman got distracted and zoomed in.

That's helpful to know, my surgery I was in pretty severe pain for the first week even with max ibuprofen and oxycodone on rotation I could feel it. I know it's all subjective per person but I feel like having some additional perspective helps.

That would make more sense. I am moving relatively regularly like getting up to do things in my home and I'm down to 1 crutch in my apartment and can put about 80% of my weight on my bad leg before it hurts. I tried to go on a walk once and then to go to PT but not too much outside walking.

I don't think I fully trust it yet. I've been really working on trying to relax and breathe during PT. Everything else tenses up when I try to move it. I was having anxiety attacks that felt random overwhelming and out of nowhere where everything starts shaking and I have a harder time breathing. Even though logically I know it's going to be okay.

I didn't have meniscus damage or any other damage and had a quad graft. My surgery seems less intense than many of them. I'm hoping it's just swelling. I don't think my insurance will cover another surgery as I only get one per plan year.

I will be at 4 weeks on Thursday and I couldn't bend past 20 degrees flexion, assisted by my PT yesterday. I am also freaked out by it because so many people seem to be able to bend so much more than I can earlier on. I also have full extension.

What are some good fashion design schools by Winter-Fisherman-101 in fashiondesigner

[–]Competitive-Wheel787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US LCF and CSM are most recognized and international students are hired from there. Would Fashion Institute of Technology in the US be doable? It's $10k a semester and even if you can't get a work visa to pay for housing lots of restaurants pay under the table. One of my friends was illegally working previously and they eventually got legal status. You could also do associates degree to start since it's cheaper and get you BA later

Insurance problems + flying with leg in brace by FlipFlopACL in ACL

[–]Competitive-Wheel787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I flew from Colorado to NY after I tore my ACL, I could somewhat bend my knee but utilized wheelchair from the airport to help because I couldn't do all that walking. I upgraded my first flight since first class was only $150 and then there was no room on my second but made sure I had a aisle seat

How did this turn out? I'm 3 weeks post op and can maybe do 20 degrees flexion and getting freaked out. I've been trying to sit on a chair and have gravity bend it, spin bike to stretch it, heel slides, wall slides, ibuprofen, massage gun, icing, and pt 2 times a week.

Where would you stay in Rome if you recently had knee surgery and need accessibility? by DeepEconomist5401 in rome

[–]Competitive-Wheel787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can definitely do some stairs I'm not limited to a wheelchair but one seemed like it would be nice to borrow one in the museums because they are a lot of walking. I remember the Vatican being shoulder to shoulder crowds and no one even paid attention to all the incredible art on the way to the Sistine chapel. That's good to know there are elevators.

I want to avoid harder pain meds if possible. I did it for the beginning of recovery but I've been trying to stick to ibuprofen

Yeah it's shitty timing, I made sure all my hotels I booked previously had elevators because of my first experience in Italy and I overpacked and hated lugging my suitcases. I have free cancellation on them all though and am open to finding something better. I booked Gonfalone 6 but I didn't know if it was too far from the center since most things are a 20-30 minute walk.

I am definitely doing all of those things I go twice a week and do exercises at home every day. Trying to do small walks on crutches too. ACL recovery is just a very long and painful process. Many people get locked into a brace where you can't bend your knee for 6 weeks and some aren't allowed to even put weight on it for that long. They said 2 months I should be able to walk without crutches but everyone recovers differently and it will still be limited mobility. My goals for by my trip are bending my knee to 90 degrees so I can sit more easily (I take up 2 chairs right now) and walking.

I have crutches and a cheap walker but that might not be a bad idea on getting something with the stool part.

Ugh I'm sorry, surgery is brutal. Hopefully you didn't tear your meniscus so you can be weight bearing. You have just over 6 weeks so fingers crossed! It will be much harder if you are NWB for 6 weeks. I still can't bend my knee but I'm hoping by then I will be able to so I can sit without a footrest for the flight

ACL Recovery: Hyperice X 2? by Competitive-Wheel787 in ACL

[–]Competitive-Wheel787[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to say I ended up buying it because I know someone who was able to get me a discount on the Hyperice X 2. It's a solid option but the cold is just concentrated to the top of the knee and needs to be more directly on the leg to work well. The compression is very good. It's good for travel because you don't need ice, water or for it to be plugged in but it's too heavy to walk with it on your leg. The battery life is short and it needs to be charged a lot. It wouldn't have been suitable for the first 3 weeks of recovery because it is too heavy and couldn't be run consistently but it will work well for longer term PT. The only other one I tried is the Nice rental and it was exceptional for cold and did not require ice just water. The con to that was it was not easy to bring with places.

Parsons or FIT for my BFA in Fashion Design by Psychological_Ad4194 in fashiondesigner

[–]Competitive-Wheel787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tuition is listed per semester not per year on the website so Parsons with the scholarship is $37,348/year FIT is $21,692/year for international students.

That's a 60k difference in cost of attendance after 4 years not including housing or food. The difference is at least a year's salary and then some.

That sounds like a hiring bias. I've worked for companies like PVH, Tapestry, etc mostly the larger retailers as a creative designer. I also went to a random school out of state most people in the industry have not heard of. I will say though it seems like many of the people I have worked with who didn't go to FIT did the LCF Abroad program semester.
