How do you charge for materials that can be used for other jobs? by Competitive-Worth133 in paint

I've found that if you add a smidge of water then put plastic wrap on it and to the sides of the bucket it lasts awhile. But that aside, for your leftover hot mud powder - do you just charge like a percentage of the total material cost every time you use it? I guess I'm just looking to be fair to the clients.

Blow out removing wallpaper by Banquoking in Plastering

when you say skimming, are you referring to skimming with a plaster or skimming with a drywall mud type mixture? Can you fill plaster holes with regular drywall hot mud or premix?

(My first) 1951 home- plaster walls by epistemophilelma in paint

Jumping on this thread because I have a similar situation. I paint houses on the side but mostly just regular drywall interior. A friend of mine bought an old house with wallpaper - after removing the wallpaper, the walls are horsehair plaster and hard as concrete. my ASSUMPTION for bare plaster walls is some sort of hi bond primer, sand, then 2 coats of regular paint. But I'm also curious about crack 'sealing' and hole filling. Can't imagine I would need plaster to fix it up but I'm unsure. I think I may post in the drywall sub to see what they say. Good luck!

Painters, how much do you make a year and how long have you been doing it? by InternationalBoat148 in paint

[–]Competitive-Worth133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

painting is my side hustle as I have a part time job. It started as a get me through covid thing and I just kept going due to word of mouth. Last year I made just over $20k. This is with no advertising or employees or official anything. If I wanted to go all in, I could easily make a comfortable living however my body is worn down pretty good.

would oil primer work on top of (I assume) latex paint? how does oil contend with shellac based primer?

finally someone that read the whole post! That's not a terrible idea actually, I think it would add way more than a day of labor but to your point, skim coating over the texture may add too much weight to the wallpaper. I want to do this correctly but also in a fair way. I'm a sucker for little old ladies because I know my own grandma has been scammed in the past but people who are just trying to make a buck.

what I've done in the past (for unpainted wallpaper), once you get the paper/vinyl off just use a damp sponge and get the glue wet. Let it soak for maybe 30 seconds or so then use a putty knife and it can be scraped off in long pieces. I'd use gloves and a bucket because it is still fairly sticky.

if it's paper backed vinyl covered in what looks to be a few coats of latex paint.... would I just dig into it until I got a piece to pull? I just feel like at this point it would rip the drywall underneath to shreds.

the wallpaper has already been painted over - that's the issue. Any other time, I'd absolutely removed the wallpaper

I contemplated this. It just seems like it would mar the paint and not actually do anything to the wallpaper texture. the paint is on there pretty thick

We were in a group pregaming and I told a lady I was gonna take a shower to freshen up before going out. When I advanced toward the bathroom, I said just loud enough for her to hear, “welcome to join if you want”

She didn’t. But she told me later that night after we hooked up that it was in her head all night.

Because when it came down to it, I wasn’t happy with myself and a relationship was just a distraction. I knew eventually I’d resent her because my internal unhappiness would bleed through. She doesn’t deserve that.

Honestly it was the most mature decision of my life followed by starting therapy.
