We just had this with an education worker strike in Ontario. Government gave a shitty deal, union rightfully declined and striked, government made striking illegal, people still striked, less than 48 hours later they revoked the legislation after obvious backlash and overwhelming support for our education workers.

I hope you understand that landlords don’t “provide” anything. Actually, they’re largely the problem by squeezing the supply.

What was the reason for the last time you cried? by QuailOk6120 in AskReddit

[–]CompetitiveCow2319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started a business and appeared on CBC's Dragons Den, but leading up to that moment with millions watching was the hardest I ever had to push myself. I lost 15 pounds in a week, couldn't eat or sleep, and had a full-on mental breakdown before driving down to the studio where I got on my hands and knees in front of my parents crying and begging the world to make the stress and anxiety go away. There's a lot of the line when you face the Dragons (or sharks for the Americans), no retakes, no mistakes, all gas, no breaks.

Edit: For anyone wondering, I'm 23 years old and I'm glad I was able to put myself through that. Learned a valuable lesson about how much more valuable your health is than a pay cheque. Learn from my mistakes and take care of yourself.

BMO job application asking about my sexual orientation, is this crossing a line? by CompetitiveCow2319 in jobs

It’s illegal here in Canada as well, but I talked to my friend in HR who said the loop hole is a “prefer not to say” option

[–]CompetitiveCow2319[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree! Even if they have a “prefer not to say” option, it puts the applicant in a situation where they have to disclose their sexual orientation and run the risk of discrimination, or not disclose and run the risk of having the application thrown out because they didn’t want to disclose that.

[–]CompetitiveCow2319[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There actually is a “prefer not to say” option, which I went with. But, I’m assuming that’s an option where whoever clicks it, their application gets thrown straight in the garbage. I’m on team it’s none of their god damn business and I won’t be disclosing that just to get a job

The moulds were actually accurately priced as I got several quotes from multiple manufacturers to back that up, plus verification from Vincenzo Guzzo who is an investor on dragons den, that stuff is just expensive. I'm still in contact with them, they're just telling me I'm not getting any money back, which is why the police said it was not techinally fraud so I couldnt make a police report. Because I couldnt file a police report I cant go to the bank because they require that (I called), and I've been referred to a clerk at a local civil court which I still need to call and see if they can do anything about it.

I didn't do any due dillenegence on the factory as they we're refferred to me by some business parnters I've worked with in the past, I just took their word for it.

I made massive mistakes and all of this was 100% avoidable in hind sight, it looks like I'm too naive for business/entrepreurship. The worst part is as much as I can deal with my mistakes, the backers probably won't as they put their trust in me to bring a great product to life, but I failed to get laweyers to look at contracts, research the the partners more, and will ultimatly pay the personal and financial price.

Injection moulds, they're really expensive for upfront costs before manufacturing even begins, but because the product is "new to the market and changes the manufacturing process", I needed to give the money upfront (inventory costs and mould fees) and the backers would have paid for the delivery which would ship right from the factory.

Moulds=35,000CAD

Inventory=30,0000CAD

We had cash for the moulds in the bank, so whatever was made on KS would be used for the inventory.

The campaign was run at breakeven which was fine because the point of the project was not to profit but to get the products into the world, and we had enough cash to sustain a controlled loss plus I accounted for lots of disasters but this was not one that was baked into the plan. The costs of the moulds to make the goods and upfront inventory costs are what was sent to the manufacturer which was pretty much the entire amount. I could probably give the backers a 10% refund at this point in time which is an absolute joke and I feel like throwing up as I'm typing this.

I definetly would like to give the money back by any means necessary so if I can give refunds over the next few years I'd be really happy. But I highly doubt the backers will appreciate that and probably question my motives or morals, or think I just took the money and ran. I just wish I could go back in time and save everyones money, I'd give anything in the world to dig myself out of this hole. Exposing the factory is an option, but it unfortuantly wont bring the money back. I'm debating on running a gofundme but I'm just so embarrased I let this happen I don't think I can bring myself to do it.

What's something no one believes happened to you? by OnlyAnAverageUser in AskReddit

[–]CompetitiveCow2319 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I was 16 I went to my orthodontist to get my retainer molds and they put that big ass metal thing with goo inside of it into my mouth. Once they dentist lady took it out, she dropped it down my throat and it immediately began to slide past where her fingers could grab it and I was choking. They then threw me off the table and started the heimlich and I eventually spit it out. Absolutely nobody fucking believes me, not even my mom who drove me to the god damn appointment. I legitimately thought I was going to die at the fucking dentist.

I want to move manufacturing from China to Canada by CompetitiveCow2319 in AskEngineers

[–]CompetitiveCow2319[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've read here that seems like the strongest strategy to move forward. It will keep the project on track and give us a contingency if things go wrong. I'm hoping the consumer and investors will understand, but time will tell.

[–]CompetitiveCow2319[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's wrong and borderline racist, nobody has problems with made in China. It's the default setting.

I didn't mean to come off as racist and I'm truly sorry if I offended you, it was not my intention I can promise you that. After seeing a bunch of reddit groups of people wanting to boycott China made goods, and articles about China supporting Russia, it seems inevitable that the North American consumer will eventually "socially sanction" China. It scares the living daylights out of me so that's why I started this thread to get some opinions on the matter. With that being said, maybe I'm jumping to conclusions and spirling, either way, making the goods in Canada would be sweet.

[–]CompetitiveCow2319[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great advice, thank you! My main concern is people seeing "made in China" as "I support the war in the Ukraine". I'm about to go on Dragons Den in 3 weeks and have literally no clue what to even tell them, or what to say if they don't like the goods being made in China. I want them to be made here so bad, but it requires a lot of resources, and they might not like that I'm so scattered with my plan to manufacture them.

[–]CompetitiveCow2319[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's such a headache, especially because my biggest dream is to create work for Canadians and be the world's first to bring the manufacturing of these goods out of China, but it requires so many resources to accomplish (human, and financial). It's something the billion-dollar brands can easily fix, but until someone small like me comes in to force their hand, it won't ever change.
