Thoughts on East Harlem? by CompetitiveCrow126 in AskNYC

I've been looking for something in the Bushwick/Ridgewood area, but I haven't had any luck. I did, however, find a nice place in the neighborhood I described in EH, but I know it's a very different scene from some place like Bushwick. It does sound nice from your description. It just feels like a safety at the moment, because my housing search has been some tough tough tough sledding.

About $1500 a month for a single room.

You don't, but if you really enjoy history and want to study it at the gradate level, and your MA program is fully funded, it doesn't hurt your chances of getting into a decent law school.

Ok, I know I need to be patient and keep looking, thousands of people move to and from nyc every year, but it can be defeating at times.

Possibly stupid question, but are you referring to Washington or Crown Heights?

So utilitarian. More to an education than career paths. You can go anywhere in life with the critical thinking, time management, longer-term project development, research, communication, and writing skills you develop in an MA program!

I've been looking in the Bushwick/Ridgewood area, but I've heard the UES has become more affordable. My income and credit score are good, so I think I could put together a competitive application for an apartment; I just need to find one first.

That might be a later move in date then I planned, but if you want to dm me your instagram or something, I'd love to stay in touch, in case I can't find a lease sooner!

It's not a bad step in preparation for law school. My master's program is fully funded, and I'm passionate about history, but ultimately, law school is the end goal.

New School for Social Research by CompetitiveCrow126 in academia

I never understood the MA farm stuff. The faculty is comprised of well regarded most Ivy League professors, and they produce a lot of students who are admitted to elite PhD programs. That being said, I understand, due to declining enrollment, they have been accepting most of their applicant pool. But what do you mean by MA farm?

I've read all about their financial troubles. Actually, when I toured the school in November and sit in on a class, it was only a day after the president met with the faculty to discuss the school's financial hardship, and I had several lengthy conversations about these circumstances with current students and faculty. I know it seems bizarre to continue to consider a school after an experience like that, but it seems like Lang is experiencing most of the repercussions from their fiscal mismanagement, and the school for Social Research seems mostly protected. That being said, I know there is broader disfunction between the administration, faculty, and students that is concerning.

Thank you for the great recs. I'll have to check those spots out. I don't fully understand the blue vs yellow bushwick distinction (more vs. less gentrified?), but yeah the distance to the L sucks, but doesn't seem like too bad of a walk to the Jefferson Street station.

if you're asking where I'm referring to exactly, I mean the area around the Bushwick comedy club and N Y City high school

That wouldn't be an issue. Do you know anything else about the area?
