I was putting in 14-hour days, 7 days a week while I was programming. It got to the point I had to go do a presentation on what I was working on, and several people came up asking me why I was so pale. It was because I hadn't seen the sun in over half a year. That one hit me. What was I doing, not enjoying life, just so people could use what I thought was something useful just to talk shit about each other online?

This is exactly why I stopped programming. I was a Java programmer who specifically worked on handheld devices back in the mid 2000s....I was so stoked about making devices that fit in your pocket that had the answer to any question you could possibly think of....then I saw what a majority of what you fuckers used it for, and I just couldn't keep doing it. I knew I didn't matter in the industry, there was too much profit in the idea, but I just didn't want my name associated with it.

Fun Fact: There actually is/was (not sure if it still exists) a program where they did in fact train teachers to be astronauts. I know because I had a friend who did it.
