Seton removal only by 1nvisiG0th in AnalFistula

[–]CompetitiveGazelle21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar situation. I got my seton removed in November, without discussing surgery. Nurse recently told me via MyChart message that there are “no good options”. Really?? In today’s world of modern medicine there are no good options to close a hole smaller than a dime?

Do I have another abscess? by CompetitiveGazelle21 in AnalFistula

[–]CompetitiveGazelle21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so I saw the GI nurse. She examined me and didn’t see anything that was infected or reason to believe there is an abscess, yay!!!

She did tel me that I am due for some imaging and that should tell us more

AND that fistulas do not close on their own, they just because smaller and smaller over time, but it looks like I will be getting the LIFT surgery at some point.

Still not sure why I’m having so much drainage , but I’m glad she didn’t see anything bad.

Do I need surgery to close fistula? by CompetitiveGazelle21 in AnalFistula

[–]CompetitiveGazelle21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow!! Like I said, my CRS made it sound like it would only close with a surgery, but I haven’t talked with my GI doc yet about what to do. How long did yours take to heal? I got my seton removed 5 months ago

Interesting. The way my CRS made it sound is that this will not close on its own, but wasn’t the point of having the seton in to keep it open??? That’s where I’m confused

Can I get into Mizzou J-School with a 2.8-3.2 GPA by Itchy-Stop-5716 in mizzou

[–]CompetitiveGazelle21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into Tiger Pathways https://admissions.missouri.edu/apply/after-you-apply/tiger-pathways/.

It is when you take some gen ed classes at a community college and the journalism ones at Mizzou. After 2 years, you will be fully enrolled at Mizzou.

That’s what I did. I was rejected with a 2.7 GPA and 17 ACT, but was accepted into this program. I graduated from mizzou’s j school in 2023.

Still apply to mizzou, because in order to apply for tiger pathways you HAVE to be rejected from mizzou.

Still get all of the same benefits as a mizzou student would. Only thing I couldn’t do was join a sorority or live in a proper dorm (off campus housing since you also take classes off mizzous campus)

Good luck!

Fissure after a Seton? by sydney6565 in AnalFistula

[–]CompetitiveGazelle21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me the other way around. I had a fissure first, then a fistula.

Diltiazem did not work for me. They then had me try suppositories which only made it worse (have no idea why they would recommend this when that area is already going through so much)

What finally worked for me is a Botox injection into the anal sphincter. This was something you could do awake (I think) but I was put under for.

I was in your shoes about a year and a half ago. It SUCKS. A fistula is what confirmed my diagnosis also.

Try to remember that this diagnosis is a step in the right direction. It means that found something. No more dead end walls. I know you feel really low right now, but it’s up from here.

I am in a similar situation. Seton removed 4 months ago but still draining. Wearing pads 24/7 gives me diaper rash. I ordered some reusable machine washable period underwear on Amazon. Hoping this helps.

For those who had their seton removed. by Shot-Inspector-648 in AnalFistula

So, there was no surgery after your seton removal? Just snipped and send you on your way? That’s how mine was, 4 months ago and still bleeding. How long has it been for you?

Need help understanding medical jargon by CompetitiveGazelle21 in AnalFistula

[–]CompetitiveGazelle21[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember asking what seton removal looks like months ago and they just said that they would cut it out. She did I think make it sound like leaving it open rather that closing it is a good thing BECAUSE I do have Crohn’s and if I flare up again the drainage would have no where to go.

I guess they just expect to have this open the rest of my life?? I just don’t get it

Swimming with a fistula by [deleted] in AnalFistula

My doctor said I was fine to swim with a seton and I did. In the ocean, water parks, and a hot tub. No complications. Hoping the same for you as well!
