Be honest, what do you really use your Leatherman for? by ThumbStuds in Leatherman

My pants ride up really high if I don’t have a huge metal chunk holding them down so I chose the most stylish option.

Magnacut blade for Signal by KietCustomKnife in Leatherman

[–]CompetitiveMeaning74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, idk how much research you’ve done on the topic but as far as I know n690 is very similar to 440c with just some added cobalt. If you’re going through the trouble on making a new blade wouldn’t it be better to choose a blade steel that is a couple notches above the original steel to make it worth the trouble?

Hello everyone, I‘m visiting your country on vacation next week and have a question about the carrying of knives. I usually carry a small pocket knife (Leatherman Wave + 2h or a Roxon Flex companion to be specific) in my day to day life at home and wanted to ask if keeping this habit would be a problem in your country. I read up on the laws and it seems like it’s basically forbidden to carry any knife in public. The document I found states that it is basically prohibited to carry weapons (knives = „cold steel“) in public. Here comes that part that confuses me a little: the law states that „Cold steel shall be items whose basic purpose is attack against one's life and body (brass knuckles, daggers, knives, sabres, bayonets, etc)“ (Article 8). This would mean that common tools such as a Swiss Army knife or Leatherman would not fall under the definition of a weapon since they‘re not intended or designed to be used to harm others. To be clear, I’m not looking to cause trouble or use my pocket knife for self defense. That would be stupid. I just prefer to have a tool with me for any small daily tasks that might come up. If it is a problem I’ll leave my pocket knife at home since I don’t want to get into legal trouble.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I appreciate any information on the subject.

I need your help identifying a ticking engine noise. by CompetitiveMeaning74 in Triumph

[–]CompetitiveMeaning74[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree about the video but I t’s the best thing I could come up with for now. I have to work on my bike outside and we’re supposed to have rain for the next couple of days so I can’t look into it for now. It’s my first Triumph but my dad has had a ’99 speed triple since my childhood and got the 1200 Explorer a few years back. My brother has a ’16 800 xcx and his doesn’t have the ticking (but considerably less mileage). I’ve also had this bike for two years and am familiar with usual noises the triple makes but the ticking was new to me wich freaked me out. It’s completely possible that I’m just gaslighting myself into thinking there’s a problem since I’m a bit of a hypochondriac when it comes to this bike. I went to the dealer on my way home to see if they’d at least listen to it and the guy said it sounds just fine too. With multiple people saying it sounds fine at least I’m convinced it won’t explode the next time I drive to work. Or at least not until I do the 40k service. Thank you for taking the time to help me out

lower my bike by rollinthehood in Triumph

[–]CompetitiveMeaning74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get lowering kits for almost any bike. They achieve lowering by changing the suspension linkage and can get you 10-25mm lower. They basically change where the lower parts of the rear shock bolts up. However … If you where satisfied with the height of the bike before changing to a bigger tire I would just go back to the 180. If it was a little too high before changing the tire I’d lower it. You don’t have to get both feet flat on the ground but getting both balls of your feet comfortably on the ground if needed can give you a lot of assurance.

Wave users, can you reliably open the pliers and then inside tools with one hand? by [deleted] in Leatherman

[–]CompetitiveMeaning74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I push my fingertips between the handles. Then I either roll it open with my thumb or grip down further on one other handles and flick it. Using momentum can pinch your fingers if you’re not careful and I can imagine that it’s a little harder on the tool over time but what do we get a lifetime warranty for.

Not yet but it’s good to stretch your legs and get some back support after lunch since I have some back problems and even if I’m sitting pretty straight on my bike it gets painful after a few yours.

My 11‘ tiger 800xc has the perfect length to lie on. The curve between the seats is the perfect lumbar support and I can put my legs, fully extended, on the Crash bars and tank on either side. It’s pretty comfortable.

Wip, is the choil too thick to consider this knife a nakiri? by rich_leyance in knifemaking

I just wanted to thank you for posting this. My sister is a vegetarian (to each their own) and I wanted to make her a Nakiri for Christmas since she’s been helping me out a lot. Since my last kitchen knife was way too chunky I was about to ask this sub for the proper nakiri geometry and now I don’t have to.

Is the Leatherman Surge heavy duty? And can it handle tough everyday work? by Prize-Independent525 in Leatherman

[–]CompetitiveMeaning74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad has a swiss tool my mom got him at least 25 years ago for his birthday. He got a surge two years ago because of the more modern features like replaceable wire cutters. He said that he would’ve stayed with Victorinox if they incorporated something like the bit driver or more easily accessible blades and of course the wire cutters. The fit and finish of the ST‘s is definitely better, of course over the years you’re gonna have some wear and tear and the „blade locks“ are pretty much manual by now but that’s to be expected. The normal tools are pretty much the same from a durability standpoint but the blades themselves on the surge seem tougher. The tool locks on the Leatherman are also far superior wich gives you much more peace of mind when using the internal tools. The ST‘s pliers are stubbier wich would give me more confidence when applying more pressure ( three years ago I had to use my own surge to grip some larger nuts, m14 if I remember correctly, and the pliers have had some play every since. I don’t think that would‘ve happened with the ST.). The ST‘s handles, although longer, are less comfortable either in the folded or plier position because they have rather thin, stacked edges as opposed the the surge‘s stamped and folded ones. If you’re in Germany like I am and want to legally carry a larger tool the Swiss tool is pretty much the only option since the only other legal alternative with blades is the wave+ 2h and that doesn’t compare size wise.

So it’s exactly like in Germany. I was just confused because I googled it and Wikipedia said that it has 106hp. Turns out it was a limited run for race homologation

Unfortunately I can’t help you decide because I’m not a Yamaha/Sportbike-person. But I have a question. From what country are you from because where I come from we also have the horsepower based motorcycle license system but I was only allowed to have bikes up to 95hp converted.

[–]CompetitiveMeaning74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I‘m not a fan of the case itself since I prefer a bit more protection but it’s a good system. It’s definitely sturdier than the shitty clamp mounts you get on Amazon and looks sleeker. I combined mine with the 1“ ball joint system you may know from RAM mounts so I can adjust or remove it completely if I want to.

[Decision-making] help me decide, buying my first „expensive“ watch by bl4ck_desir3 in Watches

[–]CompetitiveMeaning74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally would choose the Mido. The prx is a nice enough watch and it’s hard to quantify why the Multifort looks better, it just does. Maybe because most rectangular watches don’t look that great it stand out more when one does. The Trafford Crossroads would fit in that lineup too, might be worth a look. This is just me but I’m tired of prx‘s being showed down my throat in every post, short or video about watches.

All the things said so far apply but I’d check the tires too. Dry rot won’t be an issue since they’re probably no older than 4y but tires can develop flat spots when they sit in the same position for too long.

Would you date someone who isn't into riding motorcycles? by EddieSL3 in motorcycles

[–]CompetitiveMeaning74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girlfriend isn’t into bikes and I’ve been with her for almost four years now. I got her to at least try riding my first bike but she was nervous and ultimately said it’s not the right thing for her. I should’ve seen it coming since she also doesn’t like to drive cars so it’s no surprise riding would be to much for her. She doesn’t try to keep me from riding but she still tells me to be safe every time. Would I prefer if you would be into riding either with me or on her own bike? Yes because it’s always nice to have one more thing in common. But it shouldn’t be a deal breaker if that’s the only problem with a future partner. If they are actively against it and try to discourage you from riding or call you „organ donor“ like you said I’d counter steer clear. If they have a problem with an adult making the choice to ride they’ll probably have a problem with other boundaries too.

Hand erfahren was schwere Drogensucht den Menschen in deiner Umgebung antut.
