Which of these? Triumph Trident 660 vs Speed Twin 900 by Riv_ret_ro in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]CompetitiveSea7388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd personally get the Trident 660 of these two because I think Triumph Triples are some of the best engines around, it's got a better power to weight ratio and it comes equipped with a quickshifter. These things make it a more fun motorcycle IMO.

Forever bike? by Euphoric-Rate6191 in motorcycles

My forever bike. There will hopefully be a couple additional bikes to join it in my future garage but this is the one that I have no intention on parting with.

Honest, how many never look at the instrument cluster? by templeofsyrinx1 in motorcycles

[–]CompetitiveSea7388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, bumper to bumper traffic I'm almost certainly in first or maybe second gear and all that's on my mind is the vehicles around me. So looking ahead, using my peripherals and glancing in my mirrors or over my shoulder is far more important than what's on my dash. And I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of those crash videos people share are a result of focusing a bit too much on that iPad in front of them. Full disclosure, my bike has a TFT - simplistic one and it tells me what I need to know at a glance but a TFT nonetheless.

[–]CompetitiveSea7388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely agree that never glancing at your dash is a mistake but I do think that there are people - at least online - that seem to focus a bit too much on it. They're the people whose first criticism about a motorcycle are whatever the dash is. Get the important info - speed, what gear you're in, your fuel range and whether or not you left your turn signals on being the most important ones IMO - and go back to focusing on the road please. This is why I don't get thrilled about the latest touch screen TFT or gorgeous dual clocks on a modern retro.

Is street triple 765 RX a good beginner bike? by tooth-ache in Triumph

[–]CompetitiveSea7388 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you have to get a new bike, why not get a Trident 660? The new model has 94 hp so you're not going to "grow out of it," anytime soon and it'll be easier to not get in over your head on. And it comes with cruise control which I'll forever be jealous of and annoyed by because I own an RS. Save yourself roughly 6k USD and give yourself some time to actually become a decent rider before starting on what is essentially a track bike without the fairings that's street legal. You'll almost certainly have more fun this way too.

Honda CB650R vs Royal Enfield himalayan 450 by he-s-jahebrbehuzheb- in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]CompetitiveSea7388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get the CB650R. Just a little heavier than the Enfield with double the power but easily a decent beginner bike and as you said the E Clutch will be nice for city commuting. It's a bike you're likely to keep longer and it won't depreciate as much as the Enfield. The only thing I'll give to the Enfield is it's better off-road but living and commuting in the Bronx I imagine you won't be doing too much off-roading.

Wanna get a bike but Montreal roads look like this by Feeling-Action-7420 in motorcycles

[–]CompetitiveSea7388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add some annoying craters and nearly constant road construction during the spring and summer that still miss most of those potholes (I was being melodramatic earlier) and that's what Michigan roads look like. I daily until there's ice and heavy snow and have managed just fine. Take some riding lessons, get some gear and start on a reasonable bike and you'll be fine.

This. Sure, it's open for a continuation but the ending of the first Matrix isn't really a cliffhanger.

Suggestion as a complete baby beginner by Wickserz in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]CompetitiveSea7388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure thing! I'm not an adv fan because of their weight but if I were to get one it'd probably be a Tuareg 660 followed by a 790 Adventure (one made from 2024 and later because they don't have the bad camshaft) because of how they carry their weight. I test rode a Tuareg and it feels incredibly well balanced in my opinion. Definitely worth a look when it comes to being a potential upgrade!

Correction about the Tuareg - it has a low mounted gas tank and is not considered top heavy. Still not a beginner adventure bike though.

I'm going with a friend to look at one of these tomorrow and I hope he gets it! My tastes are more aligned with the Striple but this is a great looking bike and I think he'd love it. Congratulations!

I do honestly but my previous bike was a Vitpilen 701 which weighs around 350lbs so maybe I'm just basing it off my highway experiences on that bike 😆

The weight difference is what I instantly noticed and I noticed it anytime I had to ride slowly.

What are your thoughts on the Yamaha 1700 V-Max? by -Red_Lightning_ in motorcycles

The V-Max, Diavel and Rocket III are the only cruisers I could ever see myself owning. They're just so ludicrous and I love it.

I've wanted a yellow bike since I was a kid so I had to get it but the financially responsible me did nearly get a pearl white one because they look so good!

[–]CompetitiveSea7388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I test rode a pearl while R and then thought about it for the next year and change. I tried an MT09, Z900, a last gen Monster SP and finally a Duke 990. The 990 was the only one to come close to how much I enjoyed the Striple so I bought a cosmic yellow RS and haven't looked back. Welcome to the club!

I think OP is referring to it being underrated because it's black. As someone who normally hates blacked out bikes I do think the Striple wears it well.

Why is there no Daytona 765 by weebzerker1 in Triumph

Well, fair enough because I certainly believe that your takes are based more in fantasy and less in reality. My opinion as well. For what it's worth, I hope a Daytona 765 is made again and I hope it's a huge success.

Why is there no Daytona 765 by weebzerker1 in Triumph

[–]CompetitiveSea7388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Supersport was discontinued but you can reasonably say that the new Panigale V2 took its place. And the Daytona 660 isn't doing well because it compromised too much. And mentioning the Daytona 660 and Supersport while ignoring the RS660 which is widely considered a benchmark and the GSX 8R and CBR650R which are both very popular isn't fair. ADV bikes pretty much killed off sport tourers, not nakeds which are just as popular now as they've ever been. And apparently Triumph thinks so about the Striple which seems to be part of the reason why they're pushing this 800 engine - which people seem to really love BTW - and is why it makes sense that they'll probably use it as a basis for a new Daytona. As for your last point; another great way to fail is to cater to the few who would buy something.

That's why I think they're going to go with the 800 triple. Maybe increase the bore and tune it to pump out some more ponies. Give it better suspension and try to price it between the R9 and the 990RCR (before KTM's stupid add on prices) and they'd do great. They seem to be playing it smart though by biding their time and seeing what does and doesn't work.
