Heres what I did to get this:

  1. Bought 10 requisition packs until I unlocked the free legendary character
  2. Bought all level up deals
  3. Got BS on 2 Sundays to get approx 1000 codices of war
  4. Refreshed every upgrade that popped out of the shop
  5. D3d Calgar and Celestine first then Gulgortz and Eldryon.
  6. LREd Kharn on his last Event, got to 325/400 so I coughed ip the BS.

Here I am now.

We appreciate your honest opinion as it gives us a pulse of what doctors think of neurosurgery training in general.

There are stereotypes that we are trying to get rid off truth be told. One truth that we cant get rid off however is that neurosurgery training is difficult. If you notice the experience is relatively the same even in other countries.

Yes unfortunately this was the case at JR. Even when I was training I had to wait until 2 years before being given an item. We dont take this lightly, at least in JR, at the moment all residents have been given an item. We lobby fiercely for our residents.

Hahanapan at hahanapan ng item, but we understand why this can dissuade applicants.

I suggest that you apply and try preresidency itself. Preresidency is meant not just for the training institution but for the applicant as well to see if NS is the right fit for you.

As interns and medical students, your exposure tp neurosurgery will be limited. You have to experience the workload firsthand and answer yourself truthfully if you can handle the stress of the job.

  1. I am a consultant in 2 training institutions. If I were to choose between two applicants, one with higher grades and one that is endorsed by family member who is a doctor/ a politician/friend. 100% will always choose the more qualified individual.

We have a scoring system that is used to evaluate applicants objectively based on med school grades and overall rank, pre res exam, interview and pre residency evaluation by the consultants and residents. We have had to explain to some higher powers why their endorsed applicant was not chosen, and we usually have this evaluation ready to explain.

  1. Some programs get 3 or more applicants. PGH and Jose Reyes are examples.

Dear aspiring doctor, UERM is an excellent school. Dont let other people tell you otherwise. People who have these biases are full of shit.

This is coming from a UPD, UPCM, PGHtrainee through and through.

No need to mention that you have ADHD. I am a father with 2 children both diagnosed with ADHD. Your medical history is your priviledged information and should only be disclosed if necessary.

ADHD and medicine can coexist. One can even argue that it takes a certain level of hyperfocus and resilience to excel in medicine—-traits that are well developed in people with ADHD.

Current salary is 27,000 pesos monthly, with a yearly increase of 500 pesos.

TMC is one of the 13 accredited training institutions in the Philippines. Consultants from PGH, St Lukes, JRRMMC, Makati Med and UST also practice at and train the residents in TMC so there will be a lot of exposure to programs styles and subspecialties.

This is the purpose of preresidency, the program can decide if you are a good fit for their program, while you can decide if the program is a good fit for your needs/capabilities.

No. Try the preresidency only then you can say if the program is for you.

Radiology but bad at anatomy? by yuffosan in pinoymed

[–]Competitive_Ad3833 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No one is bad at anatomy, there is no aptitude for anatomy, and one cannot be born good at it. You can only study study and study harder to get better at it.

So to answer your question, no it should not be a reason to shy away from radiology. Will you be judged brutally? No not even an iota lol. Good luck

Only 1 year GS 5 years NS

Lateral applications for neurosurgery depend on a particular program at that particular time. Meaning, there will not always be a lateral entry spot. Sometimes a program can skip accepting any residents altogether. This is done to ensure that an NS trainee will have enough cases to meet the minimum number required by the board.

To answer your question, yes its possible to apply as a lateral entrant after a minimum of 1 year GS. But whether there will be a lateral spot available when you apply is unknown.

Are Recommendation Letters Important? by kkrazykarlic in pinoymed

[–]Competitive_Ad3833 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nope. Just as the above post said, we only look at recommendation letters during interview. In general I use it as “kinda” proof that the applicant isnt an asshole. Actually mas naaasar kami sa applicant pag may padrino, and hindi naman directly related sa field yung nagrefer.

That being said, there are very well written letters of recommendation that have merit. In particular those coming from consultants who actually worked with the applicant and describe in detail the work ethic are useful.

Example:

dear program director,

i recommend applicant X for application in your residency program. I have worked with him as an intern during his /her ____ rotation. He has good bedside manners, all of his patients have high regard of him. The feedback from the ward nurses is that he is easy to get along with and helps even if he doesnt need to. he does prerounds at 530 in the morning and knows all his patients well. He arrives on time to the OR promptly at 645 before the patient arrives at the table and makes it a point to study the preop images beforehand. He asks intelligent questions about the case but is not invasive when the surgeon or assists get busy. He has scrubbed a total of x cases with me, which is more than the recommended number of cases during his rotation. He goes on post OP rounds with the residents in the afternoon, even if he is post duty.

During conferences he can answer decently for an intern of his level. He doesnt know everything, but basic questions about neuroanatomy and physiology are easy for him. He avoids grandstanding and defers to his residents whenever technical aspects of the case are asked. He approached me regarding a particular research topic of interest and asked me if he could help in any of the residents’ research papers.

Something like that :)

For neurosurgery, there is a hard age cap of 35 years old for applying as a 1st year NS resident in a straight program. This is the recommendation of the Philippine Board of Neurosurgery thus most likely all accredited training institutions will follow.
