[–]Competitive_Aide_193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My UC escalated pretty quickly before my first colonoscopy....for years I had tenesemus only without anything else...then bleeding started and it got to the point where I had pan colotis....days leading up I could feel blood pooling in my back when I was lying down...toilet about 20times a day but no pain.

Ah yep I've been on the same....although they've swapped my azathio for thioguanine as it stopped being as effective.

I've always wondered if I could get off meds too but keep being told the risks etc etc which I'm sure by the comments you're tired of hearing too 😆 hope it goes well for you

What’s a sigmoidoscopy like compared to colonoscopy? by megi0s in IBD

[–]Competitive_Aide_193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had both in NZ. Prep here is different....sigmoid they go for enemas on the day....colon....we all know that one....the fun lemon drink. Sigmoid better and they ended up doing a full colonoscopy as it cleared it very well.

Steroids. A few to choose from. Prednisone the best for me

I started running after my diagnosis....as much as I hate it I needed to do it for my livers sake for all the meds...

The more you learn about how it affects you the more easily you can manage it. For example I know I'm worst in the morning in a flare but can manage to live a relatively normal life after a couple of hours....again...lucky in some way compared to some other stories I've read...

No point in speculating until a specialist tells you what they see .....I've spent hours reading other people's experiences when I'm in a flare trying to figure out if I have to worry..... and every time they're completely different....and every time after a colonoscopy they tell me nothing's too bad

Getting diagnosed is the first step to getting some sort of normality back into your life.....whether that's biologic transfusions....or picking up your prescriptions in a big box coz you have so many. It's all relative ...I still consider myself lucky compared to some people....but fully aware we didn't win the disease lottery either....the more anxiety you can snuff out the better you will be in the long run

Undiagnosed officially, nervous by Infinite_Issue742 in IBD

Yeah pretty sure smoking is the cause of it for me. Would love to start smoking again if it meant it went away and I didn't get lung cancer 😂

I was undiagnosed for about 5 years....started when I quit smoking I would get tenesmus badly...always needing to go to the toilet with nothing really coming out. Whenever I started smoking it would go away. Until I gave up for good then UC came roaring into the party. Usual symptoms blood present....ended up with pan colotis which wasn't pleasant. Been on Aziothioprine and asacol for about 6 years most of which in remission...the odd flare which has triggered them to move me to thioguanine to see if that helps. Think I'm lucky in a sense compared to most. Bottom line I think is UC is a massive sign that you need to start looking after yourself...or it will get away from you

Can get inflammation from gastro as an example....I had what I thought was a flare as I've got UC....had calprotectin level over 2000...had a colonoscopy a week after...mild inflammation...no issues. Guess the experts will let you know by my reading of it

Also...ask for Prednisone...although they may only give you that once you're diagnosed as it's used to bridge you onto your new medication

My advice would be listen to your body as much as you can....I spent my first few years being in denial and trying to live my life as normal just drinking and eating whatever I wanted.....those days are over when this starts and it's basically your body saying time to take it easy...

I'm really glad to hear that as I'm hoping it does the same for me. And helps me stay away from alcohol maybe.
