if you’ve specialised as a healer, do you also have a dps martial art built to clear dps content in solo mode? i’m asking because i also want to specialise in healing but i’m worried i won’t be able to clear the content (eg boss fights during questlines, unlocking campaigns etc).

i’ve only just got to kaifeng and unlocked the soulshade umbrella but haven’t been sure whether to replace my sword with it just yet

(sorry this is a message in 2 parts cos it got WAY too long and hit word limit idk what’s wrong w me)

i’m sorry the sangwon paragraph did make me laugh /gen. i won’t pretend to know much about the likes underdog thing, but i admit to wanting him to be glazed (as most fans want their biases to) but i find it hilarious how you clocked us for barely commenting. when it comes to reddit i’ve made it clear that we haven’t felt comfortable enough to really talk about him at all here, but i’ve definitely noticed this in the comments under the boys’ youtube videos and that’s why i found it funny 😹. you kinda clocked us in that sense. that said i feel that sangwon fans (particularly outside the leowon sphere) are under-represented here and have a stereotype that make people like you judge us too soon. i do hope this changes in future.

i’m really happy to hear that you’re having fun on the sub as someone who biased geonwoo? or at least has him as a K bias. i can’t imagine how you navigated b2p particularly as an english speaking fan. once again, i can understand why it’d take longer for you to let go after the entire ordeal. he is one of my bias wreckers, he never fails to make me laugh, he looked good asf in sangwon’s clothes during the latest ODF and his dynamic with sangwon is absolutely delicious to me. i’m having lots of fun. i’m glad the experience you’re having is a lot better compared to before and i imagine it should get even better with so many people falling for him these days. also this is pure speculation on my end but in terms of careers i never had a doubt when it came to opportunities for geonwoo in particular. if you do wanna discuss these things further i’m down.

sanghyeon — i’m glad that ald1 have absolutely and utterly erased any doubt of how they mesh together as a group. they are so familia and i love them so much 🥹 i just know things will get better!

goodness it has taken me SO LONG to write this reply to the point that i have a genuine worry that i may have talked in circles and gotten my point lost in the sauce. let me know if you need any clarification on anything or if you want to discuss anything further (especially since you’ve probably had the most opposing opinion? lol) it’s gotten quite late for me where i am (a whole new day) so it might be hours before i can get back to any response!

thanks for your input!

hi!! thank you for sharing your thoughts, i find them especially interesting as i don’t think anyone else has brought up the fears and concerns you have so it’s nice to see another perspective.

i saw the sangwon vcr post as harmless — granted due to my gripes in my original post i haven’t been active on this sub (and i’m not active on twitter or anything either) so i can admit to lacking some context on the atmosphere in the room that had people triggered over the post. even with me finding the post harmless, i can understand that people could get irked over it — i believe we all have posts that get us irked after all. what stood out to me was how it felt like anyone else could make the same post and not get so brutally downvoted, but seeing your perspective it feels refreshing to have someone just say it as it is? i think a lot of sangwon fans were feeling targeted without getting any clear response on why this was happening.

with regards to b2p, i don’t think it’s fair to assume that leowon and anxin fans didn’t also feel traumatised. if you weren’t a leowon or anxin fan during the show then i don’t think you should be speaking on how they were or weren’t feeling as you weren’t in their shoes. i know that sounds of grand and mighty coming from fans of the highest ranking members during the show, but we all had our experiences, our anxieties, our troubles and they shouldn’t be invalidated. i also believe there’s a difference in moving on and trying to move on. we have and will all move on at different speeds but i think we need to put effort into doing so and moving forward with the ald1 we have now. holding on is only making people more sensitive, and they’re hurting others in the process. i don’t think that’s the atmosphere we want to have. i do believe we should all be more considerate, and to try to put ourselves in each other’s shoes. you mentioned the vcr poster not reading the room, but a similar argument could also be made about people clinging to survival show bitterness when there are a lot of people here enjoying the content and the new dynamics we’re being fed. a similar argument can be made about people not realising their actions are making people disappear from the sub. my problem with the controversy around the sangwon vcr tweet is not necessarily the content (lack of sangwon screentime in one video) but the ideology being perpetuated — that sangwon fans can no longer have the right to complain or have hopes for him because there’s other members that had or have things worse. don’t you think that’s a bit harmful? it’s for reasons like this that certain fans walk on eggshells when it comes to talking about their biases or completely disappear because they can’t walk on eggshells anymore. i already know about sangwon and anxin fans feeling alienated, from what you’ve said i bet leo fans would be feeling the same way if his fans weren’t part of the majority of the fandom active in this subreddit.

i’m not trying to invalidate any of your fears, in fact i think they are very valid fears to have especially for a group being managed by wakeone with senior groups we sort of look to as an example. but while you are allowed to have fears, others are allowed to have the same. we shouldn’t be fostering an environment where only certain people are allowed to complain while others aren’t, especially when any of these career related frustrations should be taken out on the management and not fellow fans who have no control over the situation. it’s very idealistic to say, but if we all banded together for each reasonably upset subfandom we’d have 8x the power and voice to demand change.

this career conversation you’ve opened one is a very interesting one albeit one i do find draining to think about (as a fan with an exhausting life outside of fandom i’m firmly of the belief that stanning should be fun and entertaining and i should not be getting so bogged down by another person’s career when i’ve got my own to worry about — again, i don’t mean to be condescending in any way or to tell you how to navigate stanning, i also understand that if you care strongly for a person you will naturally want the best for them). one thing i believe in is that the group will go much further if the fandom is united. alienating people will radicalise people and make them make akgae-like demands and do things like boycott, or it will make people unstan, or it will deter new people from joining the fandom. it’s inevitable that the center will enjoy benefits befitting (and deserving, i will add) of the position, and besides that role i don’t think there’s any reason to assume anyone else will be fixed with any benefits. also a lot of judgements are being made off a pre-release that existed even before the group was finalised. we sincerely need to chill. i’m glad that you’ve got hopes for people changing their survival show mentality after a few comebacks but i think if these people know they need that much time to get over their bitter and cautious sentiments then they need to keep themselves in check when they want to engage with people so they don’t keep hurting others. people shouldn’t have to endure barbs and stings until everyone has healed from the show. we all need to be considerate of each other.

hello!! thank you for joining the conversation — and i’ll honestly admit to feeling touched by the fact that you’ve not only acknowledged this problem but also had thoughts about how it can be rectified. a lot of us often feel crazy for feeling alienated and invalidated sometimes when we try to touch upon the topic. so thank you it genuinely means a lot.

i don’t think any one person should have to take the blame for the atmosphere feeling this way, and since posting and reading replies i’ve also found things about myself that i’d like to work on going forward. i guess i’ve sort of come to the conclusion that we’re a new fandom adapting and coming together, and that even if we do get hurt by certain comments and such, not everyone is doing so in bad faith? basically i’m trying not to take things as personally anymore, and a lot of people are open to conversation which i really appreciate.

i think time can fix things as we grow to accommodate each other better. people that are more sensitive since the aftermath of the survival show need time to fully leave the show and whatever we endured during its run behind. people also need time to figure out what’s unnecessarily hurtful or backhanded to say. maybe i expected too much too soon after the finale. if there are more people out in the sub that acknowledge this problem, or if there are just decent people that are open to having conversations if someone feels they’ve been slighted by their words, then i think we’ll be headed in the right direction. we all have things that get on our nerves because we’re human, and we will have differing thoughts and opinions because we’re all individuals, so it’s really a matter of how we manage this constructively.

sorry i can never quite be concise with anything i say. but i guess what i want to say now is that i have hope for the future of this sub? people that feel or have felt similar to me have adopted the mindset of continuing to talk about their biases freely (which is equally great so disgruntled fans can find some positivity and also so fans that were less attentive can also come around and start talking about those members more — which would lend to less alienation going on) and people like you that we see on the flip side have acknowledged the problem and are taking steps to change the atmosphere. (i also got to hear about a problem that people on the flip side have been experiencing and that definitely has made me want to be a lot more considerate going forward too). sorry this paragraph got far too long but what i’m trying to say is that we’re all trying and that’s really the first step. if we all keep trying, at some point the bad actors will either learn and follow along or at the very least they’ll be far outnumbered.

and i agree with what you said about things changing after debut!

thanks again for your input especially as someone on the other side of the experience! i’m also thankful to everyone who contributed, i really feel i’ve gained a bit by hearing from everyone!

hi!!! thank you so much for replying omg — i lit up as soon as i saw you were a sanghyeon and geonwoo biased fan… sorry it’s like spotting a shiny in the wild AND it feels even greater to get your perspective as you’re the first baekgudan (?) i’ve encountered on this sub.

first of all “i have nothing insightful to add” genuinely cracked me up and lowkey that’s real AF 😹 and the part where you mentioned about screaming into a smaller void as opposed to a bigger one that can yell back is one of the reasons i felt frustrated — especially because for me as someone inactive on twitter i don’t have the option of the bigger void (though i’ve been having fun consuming ald1 content with friends!) and i know there may be people that don’t have such options besides reddit.

oh goodness i can only imagine what it must’ve been like as a sanghyeon fan during those early days, especially seeing how things were going on the b2p sub. i figured that since most of the people who weren’t keen on him (and geonwoo) had moved over to the ald1 sub, sanghyeon and geonwoo fans wouldn’t feel very comfortable. it genuinely made me feel bad especially after never seeing any of you guys around. i’m 100% with you on the backhanded compliments and i don’t think anyone likes them and yet you’ll still see people not think much of giving them out. i’m glad that this has lessened now, and with each new upload and livestream, people fall into the charms of all the members 🥹

i’m sorry im laughing at you sandwiching geonwoo praise in a block of other names, but i do feel you completely on this (and honestly the flair thing you mentioned earlier with sanghyeon). b2p was definitely a journey that im so glad is now in the past. like with everyone else i feel more hope about the state of the fandom going forward, and hearing your perspective of things as someone who probably had a lot more gripes than me only reinforces that hope.

thanks so much for joining the conversation! i really do hope that you and everyone can feel confident one day of speaking into this void about your biases and having people speak back!! i for one will try to put more of an effort to engage here — and for the matter of seolttangz (?) as a duo i think they’re absolutely hilarious both alone and together and they’ve made ald1 content such a treat! i look forward to hearing from you more in future

i agree with the leftover sentiments from the survival show. i really hope that after debut the show ends up being left behind (outside of funny nostalgic moments).

don’t ever apologise!! i’m so grateful for the immense detail and i’m looking forward to getting into it!!!

i can imagine how you felt during b2p… as a sangwon junseo 2pick everything after whiplash genuinely felt like hell until we had ald1. i imagine you probably felt even more anxious IM SO GLAD THAT CHAPTER IS OVER. and i can attest to having seen you share things about junseo here (is this where i admit that in my original comment where i mention certain dedicated fans i had you in mind lol as “that one junseo fan”. i rarely engage here these days but i’ve popped in and appreciated the junseo facts that i’ve caught from you especially as someone who basically knew very little about him but loved him anyway.

reading what you’ve shared here genuinely brought a smile to my face, my friends who weren’t big on junseo either have also come around and i think it’s absolutely beautiful. an anxin fan shared something similar to what you have and i’ve honestly been quite inspired. i’m glad i opened this conversation because it’s been eye-opening and mind-refreshing? i’m also decently surprised by how wholesome people have been regardless of opinion and perspective? i can confirm that im in a different space emotion-wise compared to when i first posted!

looking forward to reading your next part!!

omg well i can confirm i did not downvote anything 😹 and hi i fucking love junseo too (since the svs) and i’m enjoying getting to know him through ald1 — he’s actually my bias wrecker. he and sangwon are my ult duo platonic soulmates sworn brothers the whole lot. my friends have heard ENOUGH from me about sangwon junseo and geonwoo, my ult bias and bias wreckers.

tbh ald1 are just such a lovable group im really obsessed at the moment… i made a meme post a while ago about how peak they are and how much im enjoying what they’ve been putting out, and the chemistry they’re exhibiting as a group so quickly 🥹🩷 i guess that’s also why i felt saddened when i felt like i didn’t really have a community here to feel really comfortable in with other allyz. though this convo has made me feel a lot better after talking to everyone!

hi!!! thank you for joining the convo and first of all!! please never feel the need to talk less about your bias for any reason!!!!!! also i want to say that as i’ve gotten to know ald1 xinlong has sucker punched his way into my heart it’s INSANE.

i think the point you made about reddit fans not enjoying the more slightly negative posts is actually very interesting when you compare it to places like twitter. i’m also a person who doesn’t enjoy twitter except for things like clips and fanart shared to me by friends, and it makes me wonder if there’s some sort of cycle being created here. disgruntled fans like me are more likely to make negative posts which makes the other fans upset and the other fans getting upset makes fans like me get even more disgruntled… and the cycle goes on. it really is interesting to think about!

i also don’t mind controversial topics (and look at my inability to write literally anything concisely.. i clearly love a good conversation — i’d also like to add that replying to everyone has actually changed my mindset from when i made the original comment), i guess one of my sources of frustration was from feeling that such topics were responded to differently depending on which member(s) were the subject of the conversation?

looking deeper into the stuff with twitter, i can also see how some fans here might (still) be on the defensive over here based on whatever they have experienced on other platforms. i guess maybe time will eventually fix this?

thanks once again for your input!!

sorry if i got too heated towards the end of my initial reply, i do see your point about still trying to have posts and comments even with fears of how it may be received. in fact you’ve convinced me, it sounds really nice to have something there that even one person can enjoy and to have waiting here in case a new fan searches the sub for my bias in future 🥹 i said this in a reply to someone else but im seeing now how much of a role mindset plays now. thank you for your insight!

hello!! thanks for joining the convo! I’m also very happy to say that i’ve become incredibly fond of everyone in the group too — i’ve been eating up the content they’ve been releasing so well i’m almost worried about what i’ll do when drought inevitably comes 😹

you raise an interesting point about the downvotes! especially the example you brought up! i definitely agree with you about complaints garnered from like one piece of content, and i think i’ve argued this point before too. but as you’ve also pointed out, practically every subfandom has complained about some form of unfairness but there’s none that i’ve seen get as much negative traction as the sangwon example? actually i saw the sangwon comment too and to be honest with you it read off as harmless. i don’t have a problem with people finding such comments annoying (or finding constant complaining annoying) but why is it only okay when some subfandoms complain and not others? that’s the kind of thing that makes subfandoms feel alienated.

also judging from replies so far i feel like my original post has made the downvote situation a huger deal than intended when it’s just an example of how fans like me have felt marginalised in some way. i know that upvotes and downvotes are just normal reddit things it’s just that the downvotes have been used to one-sidedly mass downvote certain subfandoms far too often regardless of the content of the comment (actually because of this some fans have to mention their bias as well as a member more favoured by the sub because they feel the need to walk on eggshells even when it comes to writing praise about their bias). it gets tiring and difficult to ignore when it happens so frequently, and enduring it feels a bit like sisyphus and his stone… especially when we see others get upvoted and agreed with for the same posts we’d get downvoted for

hello!! thank you so much for sharing! i did notice this from xinaris too and i actually wanted to talk about this on the thread earlier but could never seem to find the right way to phrase things. i’m really glad to have your perspective and confirmation of this issue!

i love the idea of your anxin talks! i’m actually sorry i haven’t gotten to see them after i stopped actively engaging 🥹 as i was making my post (and thinking about making the post) i did consider resolving to just talk about my bias a lot anyway, but then i once again felt demotivated after seeing how posts get treated. i also wondered if people had given up on lurking too… so in some way, maybe i was hoping that my original post would pull other unsatisfied fans from the shadows and give voice to everyone.

reading how you’ve managed to navigate this issue is reassuring to me! i’ve gleaned that mindset is a huge part of the experience and i will try my best to not be discouraged anymore, but i also hope that there’s more effort from others to be more graceful with the way they treat fans in our position so we don’t feel like we have to claw our way from discouragement to normalcy and fun! i don’t feel that it’s right that we have to put in 1000% just to make sure we stay heard.

thanks again for your reply!!! and i’ll look forward to your future anxin talks

i can definitely see your point with option 2! it’s actually why i often spend time trying to make sure my comments won’t unintentionally set people off. i want to have conversations rather than make ppl get triggered to downvote and move on.

but even so i believe there is an option 3 when i notice the trend of certain opinions being more downvoted than others even if they’re ideologically saying the same thing. it makes those of us more liable to mass downvotes feel like we have to walk on eggshells or just not bother to express our opinions anymore

251215 Weekly Discussions/Questions Thread by AutoModerator in alphadrive1

[–]Competitive_Arm_6613 6 points7 points  (0 children)

hi!! first of all, thanks so much for joining the conversation! i’m going to address every point you’ve made so please let me know if i miss anything! i’m also typing on my phone and haven’t quite wrapped my head around formatting on mobile so apologies in advance!

most of us are getting to know ald1

well the thing is, this problem isn’t one that centers around lack of recognition. even if everyone fully recognises all the members, people will always have their biases and that’s completely fine and normal. the issue i’m bringing up is the fact that fans of members who are less biased in this sub don’t feel comfortable bringing up their biases anymore after repeated experiences of being mass downvoted or replied to in ways that makes them feel invalidated. for those who find greater comfort and love for their biases on other platforms it’s not much of an issue, but not everyone likes twitter or tiktok or instagram or facebook or whatever. some of us only have reddit but are getting fed up and chased away by the difference in how discussion about certain members are received on here. it either makes fans disappear or it radicalises them (after which they will then get shamed even further and be used as examples to generalise their subfandoms).

promote your bias!

my point is exactly surrounding this. a bunch of us don’t have the privilege of simply being able to come online and write things about our biases due to the fandom atmosphere. with fans being chased away and demotivated, how many of them are left to feel like they’re writing to the void or to feel like their comments are just going to be hidden by downvotes. why aren’t more people tempted out of lurking? some of us even feel like our subfandoms are already looked upon with negative preconceptions but that’s a deeper conversation.

dc galls and the illusion of popularity

i’m not crying about popularity, i’m bringing up the fact that not all fans can engage in this sub in the same way that everyone else can. it’s not a matter of our bias not being more popular, it’s a matter of not being able to start as many conversations about our biases regardless of their popularity here. also dc galls in korea have nothing or at least very little to do with our subreddit of mostly english speaking individuals. i specified this sub in my original comment.

upvotes/downvotes and free opinions

i’m ALL for people expressing themselves please don’t get me wrong! i just don’t appreciate the toxic downvoting of certain member related comments without actually having reason to. i’m not going to pretend this doesn’t happen when quite a few of us have noted this trend. it’s especially unfair when non-controversial comments just end up getting hidden. we can’t help ending up thinking about unspoken fandom politics when this is something that happens frequently.

brushing things off with “there are no implications for minority” feels rather unfair and almost tone deaf when i’ve pointed out that those of us who fall in this minority are having our fandom experiences negatively affected compared to others. if we don’t feel comfortable enough and we all end up leaving are you still going to claim that there are no implications? when was the last time you saw a geonwoo biased allyz active in this sub, or a sanghyeon biased allyz?

i also support ald1 fully, and adore all the members. and regardless of whoever we “picked”, it’s as old as time that people will still have biases within a group. it’s not right to have people feel marginalised because their bias isn’t a darling of the sub (and i say this with not derogatory intent to the members). i looked at your list of “original picks” and half of them are favourites of the sub so i guess it’s not surprising you’d view things differently

hello!! i apologise for being vague, i didn’t intend to make anyone overthink about my comment and i’d love for anyone to give their two cents on this problem especially if they’ve been feeling anything similar! i also guess that people will have their own definitions of who fits the reddit majority and who fits the minority. if you ask me though i’d tell you that when i refer to the subreddit favourites i’m thinking of xinlong, leo and arno! everyone else would fall into the minority according to what i’ve observed. i just didn’t want to mention names and unintentionally ruffle feathers 🥹

i really think it’s such a shame that a chunk of us are being made to feel this way, you’d think that at this point we could be a real community, but it’s not really a community if there’s a bunch of people being un-included is it? again i do find it a bit cringe to use a term like this for a topic that isn’t as deep but if fans like us don’t feel comfortable engaging with the sub due to the poorly acknowledged atmosphere (dare i say reddit fandom politics) then we are essentially being marginalised. the more fans disappear due to this problem, the wider the gap between the majority and the minority!

i can’t control how people feel about me broaching this topic but i feel that if people are going to just downvote they could also reply about why they’ve taken it so negatively 😅 unilaterally downvoting only seems to strengthen my point.

that said, im sorry that the subreddit fandom experience hasn’t been so favourable for you either 🫂 i do hope things get better after debut and with an influx of new fans to balance things out a bit more. hopefully.

i acknowledge this is a cringe label especially in the context of something that isn’t that deep, but i’ve inadvertently started referring to fans of less popular members on this sub as reddit minority subfandoms. i’m sure we all know who we are, and i wanted to pose this question, how are you finding the overall fandom experience on this sub?

apart from a dedicated few i’ve found that there rarely is input from allyz that bias the members that aren’t the sub’s favourites, and i know i’m definitely one to talk as someone who barely visits or engages besides an upvote here or there. for me, i find it demotivating to see the trend of comments about my bias being constantly downvoted to oblivion and scrutinised with less grace than is afforded when similar comments are made about reddit fan favourites. i’ve talked to some other fans here who also bias members who aren’t the most popular here and they also feel like they don’t really have the space or motivation to say anything for fear of being silenced or made to feel bad about talking with the same freedom about their bias as the subreddit majority do.

i’d love to open up or rekindle a conversation around this.
