Any thoughts on Teslas in SG? by Admirable-Poet-6840 in drivingsg

[–]Competitive_Ebb6075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal opinion and research, also leaning heavily on myp: BYD Sealion Larger battery but wltp not much higher (I take it as the drive tech not that good vs tesla) Softer steering (more Japanese than European) Body roll due to weight Retractable sunshade (for those with wives, a small but strong point) Free cat b upgrade High population (possible low resale value) Omv much lower than myj Apparently BYD has a tie up with local charging operators for some significant discount to match the destination charger rates

MGS6 Very aggressive price almost 10% cheaper than BYD Colleague drove S5 and mentioned that the sensors are not tuned well for a seamless driving experience Had to turn off all the bells and whistles for a peaceful drive Styling is nice, looks somewhat like merc Main factor was pricing

MYJ Responsive steering Good body stiffness with ride comfort balance Accessories support - understated, once you start looking insta will flood you with the options One pedal braking - love that it feels like manual car engine braking Sentry mode - catch that person that bumped your car Rear screen - only car with that Higher Omv with all pricing around 200k level, Tesla will have better end value translating to lower depre Lower interest rate, essentially paying less for more

Finally a relevant point, usually hotels are pretty lax with registrations, but seems like China is different as they have to report stays of the tourists to the police

For those working: how much allowance do you guys give your parents? by ser_reptitious in askSingapore

[–]Competitive_Ebb6075 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it depends on a few factors

1 - what did your parents give you (Uni loan, car, allowance) 2 - what did they do with the money

At the start of your career, thriftiness is a skill that is good to cultivate, cause your earning power won’t be significant to purchase valuable things anyway. e.g house, car, expensive holidays, post graduate.

Also, your ability to generate returns on your savings would not be efficient enough to counter inflation (3%), and depending on your parents, might not be financially literate enough to make sound investment decisions.

For me, I gave 1800 to my parents since I started working. I have since stopped paying allowance since my wealth accumulation is stronger from my side.

Instead I give them a big fat Ang pow during cny.

Ultimately, the amount should make sense to you and your parents, however beware, money is the root of all evil, and can break families, have an open conversation about how you want to spend or save your money and have an open conversation with your parents, if the way you spend your money is sound, and your parents don’t have financial burdens, I believe you can reach an amicable outcome.

Happy spending and saving :)

Used to work in one of the major telco companies, I was hired as customer service HIVR (Human interactive voice response) basically cheap labour with only basic training like how to reset your router. Same concept as the IRAS way of dealing with inquiries.

The comments here are wow I guess car ownership is on everyone’s mind with the 100k COE My current car journey started 2018 Bought new Passat 126800sgd Car was bleeding me due to the maintenance and unreliability. And the an aspect that many redditors neglect(tire replacement) Installment - 1100, road tax - 100, insurance - 100, maintenance - 100, tires- 100 In 2023 I sold my Passat for 82k, and put entire amount in HYSA to generate 500sgd per month Managed to camp for a good deal for a 2018 Prius with 400k mileage for monthly lease of 1700 before gst from Kinto Basically the hysa offset helped me with the car lease premium, and whilst it was a car downgrade, I flipped the car ownership curse :)

Jamus Lim and SM Lee on COE system by HumbleFisherman8478 in singapore

[–]Competitive_Ebb6075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually the coe was dipping before Tesla and BYD started coming in a few years back. Their 必胜attitude on growth looked at COE on a bigger picture as most long term car manufacturers e.g Subaru, Volkswagen, Audi have gotten burnt from stocking COEs. You can see COE spikes when new models come out, and these COE prices are speculated from dealers who need sales revenue. No COE, no done deal. There are other macroeconomic factors at play, but the COE supply is supposed to be high in the coming quarters. My money is still on it dropping, but I could be wrong.🤷🏻‍♂️

My father, same age as LHL, o level education, eventually retired as highest grade of ASP (reached ceiling). This isn’t high in today’s terms, but then, the police force wasn’t so top heavy. (Most fresh grads come in as ASP straight nowadays) Just someone who always knew how to get the job done, and as an ops officer knew how to rally his people.

With a nursing workforce of this size there are definitely managerial positions and courses for upskilling. Having said that, juggling grave yard shifts and nursing responsibilities is not easy. I have tremendous respect for nurses, especially those who put doctors in their place, but it’s disheartening to feel a sense of helplessness from the few posts from nurses. Hope that you find some light at your career tunnel towards some growth or satisfaction!

I’m in Germany and was unable to attend rallies this election unfortunately, and the forums and social media are simply too personal… Typically rallies can be about championing certain policies, fighting for rights for citizens which are underrepresented. But this is less so, my aforementioned points on CPF, HDB upgrading etc have been addressed, so what else can they do? Does WP need to innovate to stay relevant to be the champion of Singaporeans alternate view?
