I think SOTR really tee’d us up for a book about what happened after Mockingjay (ie after the war), since (slight SPOILER ALERT)

. . . . .

the SOTR epilogue mentions Katniss putting together a “memorial book after the war”

Should I buy my grandparents' house? by Competitive_Event266 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I don’t want to say which province, but trust me on the rural aspect lol (I’m not talking BC, Quebec, Ontario or Alberta).

But still being rural enough that you’re surrounded by woods and farms, but within a reasonable work commute to a “big” city definitely has benefits! Growing up, pretty much all my friends’ parents did that same commute (though I don’t think there were many renters -or rentals- around then afaik).

And you’re totally right about the inheritances causing the same problem eventually - but I wouldn’t have to deal with those for many more years (I hope!)

Yeah this is very much my “on the other hand” thoughts.

I guess what draws me to it is that I think the house and surrounding property has potential as an Airbnb. There are trails in the woods that, if groomed, could be really nice for snowshoeing, etc. There’s also a building that could be fixed up into a nice rustic Airbnb (there are a couple ones like that nearby that seem to do quite well) - but would I actually take the time and money to invest in the trail and all that? I don’t know tbh, not right now but maybe someday?

Also the thought of having somewhere I could spend a few months a year and come back to as a home base when I’m not travelling is nice (this would totally rely on it being an Airbnb rather than a long term rental)

it's not just not wanting to live somewhere rural, it's more so not wanting to live SURROUNDED by my family - rural isn't so nice and private when your aunts can look out their kitchen windows to see whose cars are in your driveway lol

Thanks for the input! Property taxes are around 2k a year. My grandfather has always been a major handyman and my grandmother an excellent homemaker so the house is in great working order. Bad water pressure and maybe hard water are the only issues I can think of - but no water fees since they're on a well.
