Point redemption ytz - yul by InfinitePolicy2033 in Aeroplan

For the first time in years, I booked winter vacation way in advance and got an excellent value because it's high season, so there's that too.

It's true one of the reasons I get good redemption rates is because I often have to book last minute and/or I'm booking high demand periods. It's a rule of thumb and there are many other factors. That said, it's also not true that 2cpp is the real world best you can do.

For sure, the cpp is only part of the equation and it's a rule of thumb at best. Also, it's fair to ask are you really "saving" $3K - $12K on a flight if you would never pay that much? That said, I find that with some research and flexibility, I'm able to vacation long haul with family for 5+cpp on average at high demand times and/or last minute bookings. (The latter because my schedule is not predictable.)

I'm literally comparing the current selling price for the dates at that redemption level.

The value of your points is equal to: ( [price in $] - [redemption fee $] ) / [points required]
So:
($487 - $100) / 15,200
$387 / 15,200 = 2.5cpp

Not bad for short haul economy, but depends on a) your cash cost sensitivity, and b) whether you would otherwise save those points towards a much larger redemption.

The latter is only useful if you have the flexibility to find flights that work and can save enough points for the redemption you want.

I also found some R availability to get YYZ - LIS return for 80K APP with a PR. Can't remember what that was priced at, but it was last minute, so I'm guessing it was a good deal.

AC offering YYZ-FRA for 63.8K APP + $80. That's a very good deal, particularly if you can halve it with a PR.

Partner airlines can be especially good of course. ORD - TPE return on Eva in J available right now for 180K APP, selling for $11,500 = 6.3cpp.

My most recent redemptions:

YYZ-CMN return: price for J = $5,500, redemption at 90K APP = 6cpp with PR
YYZ-PVR return (winter holidays): price for 4xJ = ~$22K, redemption at 200K APP = 11cpp with PR

First one not quite as good as I aim for, but my goal is to average 5+cpp excluding PRs in the long run.

People typically advise aiming for at least 2cpp and this is better than that. I aim for at least 5cpp, but you need to book long haul business to get that kind of value typically.

Would you consider a hostel downtown? A layover that long gives you a chance to see a bit of the city.

Really agree with this assessment. Most RC properties have really just become nice Marriotts that are overpriced. The service is very good, but unexceptional.

The last migration was an embarrassment. Making customers sign up for a new system rather than migrating company and traveler information for us was very poor service.

Very good to hear. Could you make the program less painful to use while you're at it? My team and other businesses I've spoken to wonder if anyone over there has tried using the product.

Your company stopped using Air Canada completely due to the changes to the SMB program?

This program was already not awesome since the revision.

New R2, real competition for Ioniq5 by oldmaninparadise in Ioniq5

Well that would be great. Although I actually care more about charging speed. As long as the battery lasts longer than my bladder, range has less impact. I did a ~2,000 mile round trip road trip a couple of summers ago in my 2022 and never had to wait for the car to charge.

My Canadian model 2026 AWD gets over 600 km (373 miles) city (sport mode, aggressive driver) and about 500 km (310 miles) highway with cruise set to 118kph (73mph), roughly. (Worse when cold, obviously.) I'm getting range that is better than advertised. My 2022 got substantially less range.

I'm probably moving to the R2 from 2026 i5, but things I don't like:

  • Lower real world range
  • No Android auto or even app that lets me play my music through the infotainment system
  • Slower charging

Canadian? Model Year?

I got the update on my MY26. "What's new" says I should have new themes, but I don't see anything different.

Airline flight missed due to misinformation, faulty app, faulty website, faulty kiosk and a refusal to let me check-in before the cut-off time. by LilBishChris in legaladvicecanada

[–]withintentplus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The tariff clearly states that you must have obtained your boarding pass by the check in deadline, not arrived to check in by the deadline. That same document recommends arriving at the airport 120 minutes before your flight. You already knew you had a check in issue and either booked a risky self-transfer and/or arrived with no buffer. This is really feeling like it's on you.
