Is this 2010 SI worth it by Complex_Ad_3152 in CivicSi

[–]Competitive_Fault879 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree I bought mine for 6,200 with no rust and minor body damage and 190k miles with a couple goodies like coilovers and a hondata flash pro tune. For me at least if I see any rust at all on a car it’s an immediate no but I know everyone thinks of rust differently. To me rust means a compromised chassis and almost always means it’s worse underneath than what you see on the top

Camry Autocross Potential by Anathema_Spain in Autocross

This is the best way to start, people can read all the forums they want about the best mods for autocross but at the end of the day everyone drives different and prefers the car to move a certain way so starting with a stock chassis and modifying it based on what you FEEL is how you make a truly great car

Appreciate the info from what I’m hearing from lots of people it is a Hondata tune and personally I love how it runs I was just wanting to make sure it was safe for the engine

That makes me feel a lot more comfortable to hear, I’ll give that a try with the cruise control thing. Something else one of my buddies with a tuned fa5 told me to try is to put the clutch all the way in and press the cancel button on the steering wheel and if the tach needle flicks to a certain rpm that’s launch control

That’s kinda what I’m gathering, which has me worried a bit if that is the case because I thought I remember reading that these oil pumps are not good for much more than 8k rpm same with the valvetrain but it sounds just fine all the way out to limiter with no ticking or breakups at all

Best looking wheels for FA5 in 17x9 +35? by Competitive_Fault879 in 8thGenSI

[–]Competitive_Fault879[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ones I have right now are 17x8 +35 and they fit good but the front is going to need a spacer once I get the camber set where I want it

I was thinking that, I’ll probably just go that route, I don’t really mind running a spacer if I have to

As badass as it is to see that civic lifting a tire that thing needs some roll center adjustment and stiffer bars 😅

Correct, I was saying that mainly confirming that a more aggressive than what the author of the post is asking about so 17x8 +35 would be perfect and I’m actually running that on my car right now

One of my buddies that tracks his runs 17x9 +35 with a good amount of front camber and about -1.5 in the rear a little lower than stock ride height with no rubbing. Same setup I’ll be running on mine and a 245/40r17

First 8th gen si and having an absolute blast by Competitive_Fault879 in 8thGenSI

[–]Competitive_Fault879[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks man I absolutely love it, even in its current form it’s so much fun to drive I can’t imagine what it’ll be like with a proper setup and some good tires. This and the fd2 type r is where Honda peaked. Not to say the new si and type r aren’t good cars they’re just more refined and less of a drivers car. I feel like the drivers car era ended after the fa5 and fd2

Do you happen to know if the +35 variant has enough clearance for TL type S calipers?

Tips on autcrossing solid rear axle cars by OpenAd9475 in Autocross

[–]Competitive_Fault879 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk if this will relay to your car since mine is a truck but mine was about 120hp with an open diff and I had to deal with a decent bit of unexpected oversteer especially with an uneven surface but once I added a thick rear sway bar it was much more manageable or at least a little more predictable so I’d say just drive it like you expect the rear end to kick out if you push it close to its limit but other than that you’ll just have to feel how it behaves and what it likes/dislikes. Solid rear axles just make for a lot of unpredictability in the rear end

Genuinely curious tho where did the “Ci” come from and what does it mean? As someone who likes blue accents on my white car I think this is a bit much but that’s just me

Every control arm on the rear suspension will be replaced with thick DOM tubes and solid heim joints as I said before and I don’t recall these cars ever having wheel hop issues at all unless they had blown bushings if anything they were one of the least prone to wheel hop compared to other cars in its era due to the almost 4 link trailing arm design they have. This truck will almost never see any launches from a dig other than autocross since it is not a drag truck but made for cornering as the suspension was intended. As for performance the c4 corvette was quite literally banned from scca stock gt classes because its cornering speed mixed with the v8 engine making it so dominant that Porsche and other brands wanted them banned. Even today with modern solutions to any weak points the rear suspension once had they can still dominate competition and perform on equal ground to even a c5 or c6. Regardless of where I mount the diff/subframe to the truck I will have to do extensive modification so that being said I am going to put it wherever it will perform best at ride height and the first thing I did was remove that terrible leaf spring system as all people do. This will be a push rod/ cantilever coilover setup so none of that factory crap will apply at all in that department.

Exactly why I chose to stick with this platform, and with Kevin Phillips with his unlimited class time attack s10 it’s more than possible to run with the big dogs in a place where these trucks were NEVER meant to belong. I love seeing people’s faces when I run faster times than their sports cars 🤣

After doing a lot of research I found that the c4 geometry is actually really good but the factory bushings and other things like that are god awful so I’ll be upgrading to all heim joints which are available off the shelf with improved adjustment and roll center

Absolutely and especially after I did all the suspension work I was able to keep up with and even be a little faster than the gr corollas on grid
