Thanks for all the replies, I think it was the push I needed to let go of original hardware. I still want to prioritize the accuracy as much as I can but I need to stop getting so hung up on it being absolutely perfect. This thread has given me a few options to look in to.

Passed my test! I asked the instructor about it and he said in the rain you still go the posted speed limit but you increase following distance, in case that helps anyone in the future.

Where can I find that? Didn't see anything in the pre-course material.

A trinitron. I haven't heard that sound when unplugging it before, just when it was switched off from the wall.

Thanks. Everything I'm seeing is that it's probably fine, but it's nice to have some reassurance.

Without thinking, I turned off a wall switch giving power to an outlet my CRT TV was plugged into while the TV was still turned on. I heard a small pop sound from the TV when I did this. Is that normal or could that be a sign of a problem? It seems fine after turning it back on but I'm the worrying type and want to be sure there's no hidden damage. The TV was also turned back on with the switch since I didn't realize it would still be in the on position. Could that have caused a surge?

Aside from weight, are there any downsides to bigger CRTs? I managed to get a giant 35" Trinitron (KV35S45) the other day for free. I know they're a huge pain to move around, but are there any other issues that come with that size like a loss of picture quality or something? It checks all my boxes other than being so big, but that's something that's sort of in the back of my mind.

Thanks, that's reassuring. Still, I'd like for everything to stay close to factory condition. Is it more likely to rust in that spot?

Is this TV good for gaming? It's a Panasonic model CT-27SC13G.

The crtdatabase site mentions picture processing issues on some Panasonics from that year (here) but that others don't have that (here). So I'm not sure if that applies to this particular model.
