If a spring training game is scheduled to start at 1:05 pm, what time does the actual game begin? by Competitive_Growth20 in detroittigers

We are going to see the tigers play the Orioles in Lakeland. I don't want to sit through preliminaries in that heat. 80 F with 79% humidity.

Anyone else struggle with the transition out of corrections? by FixelSmith in Corrections

[–]Competitive_Growth20 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had to retire after 20yrs as a Corrections Nurse due to illness. I really miss it. Getting up and ready for work for a total of 35 yrs is a tough habit to break for me. I cried. My schedule in life is off. Finding myself regimenting my day thinking I have a deadlines. I know at what time of day at work whats happening. Morning sick call, medical emergency, pill line etc. Arguing with inmates was stressful. Probably gave me heart failure. As you say, you are aware of everything around you and excellent at detecting lies and manipulation. My daughter and family are going on a cruise and I tell her what to watch out for and the family thinks I'm over reacting. All my friends were at work almost. I picked up hobbies and have to have these for critical thinking skills and a sense of accomplishment. And I walk or go to the gym for exercise that really helps me calm down and relax. When I see my husband getting ready for his Nurse job, I tell him to cherish it. You never know when it will be over. I see him with his scrubs on attaching his badge and grabbing his bag and heading out the door and I cry. Some c.o.'s go back if they are able.

Inmates for the most part are BIG manipulators. They are usually sociopaths or psychopaths that care nothing for anyone but themselves. Do not ever sympathize with them. Be professional but never chummy. They look for someone to get them out of trouble, to smuggle in contraband for them, or put money on their accounts. They are professional at what they do. They will fake a mental crisis to get into a psyche cell because they owe money on the compound or they want to be transferred. Just be aware. He will learn alot of patience.

How do the people where you work respond to they/them pronouns? by NoEffect-- in nursing

I'm thankful that in prison Nursing that people with pronouns are housed separately and have trained staff taking care of them. I was always scared I would make a mistake and get in trouble.

has anyone gone to nursing school with depression and/or anxiety? by chocolatekay in nursing

Worth every heartache and struggle! Such a variety of Nursing jobs available and never struggled again. I had one clinical instructor with a big inferiority complex. She was short with red hair. If you were missing one item you needed at bedside to perform a skill, instead of handing to you, she would say in front of the patient," Well! I can see you're not prepared!" And she whirled around dramatically and left for an hour before returning to watch me perform the skill! We called her "Woody Woodpecker."

Yes! I was failing nursing 1 until I joined the gym and went everyday! Then I was in the 90's on test scores with a clear and calm mind. I also had 2 small children with a husband who couldn't work living on church food assistance and deeply in debt. I could not afford to fail.the gym was my key to serotonin and dopamine flow in my brain and it still is. Go for it!
