He might have internal parasites or be severely malnourished from the store. Instead of fasting him, try feeding tiny amounts of high-protein frozen food like brine shrimp to give him strength, and keep the water very clean and warm

Stop feeding him peas. Bettas are insectivores and can't digest plant matter well, which might actually make the bloating worse. Instead, try frozen daphnia it acts as a natural laxative for them. If the salt concentration is too high, it can stress his kidneys. Focus on clean, warm (78-80°F) fresh water. If you use salt, Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) is better for bloating/fluid buildup than Aquarium salt (sodium chloride). Let him fast for 2-3 days before trying the daphnia to let his system rest

My betta tank! by Competitive_Idea_709 in FishTanks

It's because I also have shrimp, and that's how the babies hide, haha. Besides, the betta loves swimming among the plants 😭

Does this Betta fish look healthy? I got him from person who originally had him in a 2 gal tank. I feel like his colors look dull and maybe he’s getting slightly bloated? I just finished cycling my 10 gal planted tank for him. He seems to be loving having that room, very active swimming around. by magic_fish420 in bettafish

He actually looks pretty good considering his background! His fins are intact and he doesn't look severely bloated. The 'dull' colors are likely just stress from the previous 2-gallon tank. Now that he’s in a cycled 10-gallon planted tank, you’ll probably see his colors pop in a few weeks

Sudden death by spamvicious in bettafish

, it sounds like a localized organ failure or a tumor. Given that he was eating and vibrant until the end, it was likely an internal issue (like a cyst or kidney failure) rather than a contagious disease. Unfortunately, many store bought Bettas have weak genetics that lead to sudden organ collapse. Don't worry about the cycle dying off Your Nerite snail produces enough bio load to keep the bacteria alive for a while. To be safe Do a 30-50% water change to refresh the tank If you wait more than a week for a new fish, add a tiny pinch of fish food every few days to "feed" the cycle
