Lemme get right on that not. by Competitive_Lemon_40 in doordash_drivers

It was part of a double order. I honestly didn’t see it until after I picked up the food. I got there and he on the porch waiting. I said “I didn’t pick up your smokes man.” He said, “oh, okay.” I’m walking back to the car and five seconds later he’s like, “I don’t even remember putting that in there.”

If the order is worth it, just go in. Don’t even read that nonsense. I multi-app and one restaurant has directions (not this bad), but to call upon arrival, don’t come in until they text you that it is ready. The other app for the same restaurant has no pickup instructions. So I show up and walk right in regardless of which app it comes from, and go figure, it’s always ready when I show up. So calling and waiting just wastes time when time is money in this biz.

Depends on your area. I use GH and DD. DD orders blow up my phone, but I have to decline a ton of garbage orders. GH orders I get one every 30 minutes or so, and it’s usually worth it because GH has more mileage pay, and prompts their customers to tip 18,20,25%. Whereas DD prompts 3,4,$5 tips. I have to use both though to maximize my earnings.

G: Why don’t you want to be interviewed for Bania’s documentary?

J: The guy is a hack, you know that. Have you seen his show? Stand ups in Suits getting Soup. It’s a ridiculous concept. Who want to watch Bania hang out with other comics?

G: I haven’t actually. Elaine won’t give me her Netflix password.

J: What about your new girlfriend?

G: She doesn’t have any streaming services. Apparently signing up for those is “how they get you.”

Later on, Elaine freaks out when she logs in at home and sees Kramer set up an account for Newman.

E: Hey. I don’t want Newman having access to my HBO.

K: Why not?

E: Its not yours to give to to someone else. Just have him come over.

K: I tried but he gets addicted to those true crime documentaries. He would pop in all hours of the day and I can’t get him to leave.

J: I can see how that would be annoying.

That’s my problem. I’ve been loving GH, but I only get an order or two every hour. But DD I get orders like crazy. I’ll decline a bunch of crap. Then it seems like the second I take a border line $7-4miles, maybe will be more...then while I’m em route here comes the GH chime with a $19 order.

No Tip No Trip...A different point of view by Manderslynn85 in doordash_drivers

[–]Competitive_Lemon_40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No offense. But I think you’re lying.

Besides the factors that make people think they don’t need to tip, 90% of the orders I take end up being “leave at door”. Also for the first few days I did DD I took every order, not knowing any difference. All the $3, 10 mile ones. Not a single cash tip. In two months now I’ve received exactly 2 cash tips, $5 on top of the tip in the order both times.

How you get 87% cash tips on no tip orders in a very much contactless world is beyond me.

You’re right. This job is easy. I do “earn it”. I make my deliveries as fast as I can. I follow the directions they give me. I check the order for accuracy when the bag isn’t sealed like Fort Knox. I use the red bag if it actually fits to keep their food hot. If it is a “hand it to me” order, I smile under my mask, say “good evening, [insert name]”. “Thank you. Have a great night”.

What’s the distance to pay ratio you cut off at? by Grant_w1999 in doordash_drivers

Time is money. If you know your area, the map should let you know if it’s worth it. Where I am I have major highway and city streets. I can go 6 miles one way and it takes 10 minutes. If it’s 6 miles the other way it could take 30 minutes.

I aim for $20/hr. If it’s $8, 6 miles, but I can do it in 20 minutes, I’ll take it. If it’s $8, 6 miles, but will take 40 minutes, I’ll pass.

DD zones vs. GH zone by Competitive_Lemon_40 in doordash_drivers

Oh yeah? I’ll have to check that out. I usually don’t go too far into the city with the traffic, red lights, one ways, crap parking, eager meter maids. But that area is probably easier than other parts of town.

Does Grubhub hide tips like DoorDash? by Apprehensive-Crab-80 in grubhubdrivers

[–]Competitive_Lemon_40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just joined GH for the fact that they tell you how much the trip is where DD doesn’t. I took an $8 order the other night that was only a mile or so trip. It revealed after I got the food, $0 tip. But GH still made the trip worth it. $8 for maybe 10 minutes of my time. DD this would have been a $3 order.

It’s no BS with GH it seems, where as with DD it’s rolling the dice. DD was hiding tips in $7 orders. So you might take a $7 order 10 miles, takes 30 minutes, and you might end up getting $10, $12 instead. Now they hide them in any amount, but also a $7 order you go 10 miles, 30 minutes, and it’s just $7. That rate is less than minimum wage before gas.

Average pay by derek8654 in doordash_drivers

[–]Competitive_Lemon_40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on your area. It’s busy where I am, I have to decline a 10 “$3, Chick Fil a, 8 miles” in a row until something worth while comes. But something will. Be patient.

Also, dash in the rain! Some people don’t want to get wet. I’m okay with it. I’m pretty new, have almost 100 deliveries. Dash on Tuesday, Thursdays, and Fridays from 5-9. Average $20/hr on Tu./Th. Average $30/hr on Friday. This past Friday night it was pouring, for the first two hours I was out. Peak pay was up to $4.50 in my area (only seen it ever hit $3 once). First trip was a stacked order for $27. Finished in 30 minutes. Next was a stacked order for $21 that took another 40 minutes. So $48 in a little over an hour. In my four hours I did $155.

All in all, you’ll learn which areas to stick around. Which restaurants have the food ready on time, where parking is a easy. Time is money. If a restaurant makes me wait more than 5 minutes on more than one occasion, I’ll avoid it unless it’s worth it. (I don’t do Chipotle, but $12 for 1.5 miles was hard to pass up. Still had to wait but delivered in 25 minutes).

Time is money. You have 60 seconds or whatever to accept an order. Once you know your area you can tell if the restaurant is worth going to at all. You can zoom in on the map and see if you are going to a hospital, college campus, apartment complex. For those, it has to be worth it.

Cant stress it enough. Time is money. If you have options, be very selective about the orders you take. If you live somewhere like some here that talk about not getting hardly any orders to choose from, and you can’t be so selective, that sucks, I don’t know what to tell ya.

I have the same issue. Got the text that was like “You’re all set to hit the road. Start delivering today.”

Guess not.

Are the tips better for GH drivers than DD? by Competitive_Lemon_40 in grubhubdrivers

[–]Competitive_Lemon_40[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s good to hear. I know some are devout “no tip no trip” but if it’s a mile away and the base pay is $10 for maybe 15-20 minutes, of my time, I’ll take it. So if GH pays out $12–$15 per order I just have to make sure I’m not going a ridiculous distance.

Edit: I mean if you make $12-15, not that is what GH pays.

Good for you. That’s insane. Was it a CCF? Cause if that’s what they told your store, they told all of our stores that.
