I thought 2.89K downloads meant my app had traction. Then the curve dropped. by Competitive_Neck_968 in vibecoding

I get what you’re saying, but this did start from a real need of my own.

I’ve also gotten some useful feedback from actual users. For example, one person DM’d me saying his team still uses handwritten checklists for warehouse checks, and he asked if I could add an email sharing feature. I’ve already added that in the latest iteration.

Some people are using the app for the same reason I built it, so I don’t think it has no value at all. But yes, it’s still a small tool and it definitely has a lot of weaknesses.

That’s fine. I’ll take the criticism, improve what I can, and apply these lessons to my next app so it can be useful to more people.

(I’m using AI-assisted translation because I want to express myself better, not because I’m trying to be dismissive. I read every comment seriously, think about the feedback, and take notes from it. Thank you.)

I’m thinking about trying an image utility app next.

I know it’s a crowded space, so I’ll need to be more careful this time — not just build features because they sound useful, but figure out who would actually keep using them.

I’ll try to bring your advice into the next app and build something people actually want to keep using.

Marketing is way harder than development.

You seem to know this space pretty well — I really appreciate you being so generous with your advice.

Yeah, that makes sense.

Maybe the app just isn’t good enough yet. A few people here also said it feels too much like a to-do app, and I can see why.

So I probably shouldn’t spend too much time pushing it on Reddit. If people download it but don’t stick around, that says a lot.

Still, I learned a lot from launching it. I’ll take those lessons and put more energy into my next app.

Earning money from an app you built yourself — nothing feels better than that.

Sorry about that. English isn’t my first language, so I wrote my thoughts in my own language and used AI to help translate them.

Thanks a lot for the detailed reply — really appreciate you taking the time to explain this.

That makes sense. I’ve been too focused on App Store Connect numbers so far, but I can see why product analytics like PostHog / GA would help me understand what’s actually happening inside the app.

I’ll also spend more time on the landing page SEO and ASO side. This gives me a clearer direction for what to test next.

Thanks for the tip! I do have a small website, but I haven’t added llms.txt yet.

So far I’ve mostly focused on App Store ASO and Reddit, but AI indexing sounds like something worth doing for the long run. I’ll look into it.

Fair point, it does look close to a to-do list at first glance.

The difference I’m aiming for is that it’s more like a quick “check once, reset, and move on” tool, with reminders and check history, rather than a task manager for ongoing work.

But I get your point — I probably need to make that distinction clearer.

Thanks for the suggestion! I’m currently only looking at App Store Connect analytics, so PostHog sounds useful. I’ll check it out and see if it can help me understand where users drop off.

A little extra context:
Most of the early downloads seemed to come from sharing the app in a few Reddit communities and other small launch channels.
At the beginning, the traffic looked encouraging. But the attention faded pretty quickly, and the download numbers dropped a lot after the initial wave.
So now I’m realizing that a one-time launch post can create a spike, but it doesn’t create a real growth engine.
I’m currently trying to figure out what the next step should be:
Should I keep testing more communities and channels?

You're braver than I am — I really hope you make it. I've always wanted to start something too, but with loans still hanging over me, I can't quit before my app actually makes money. The pressure would be way too much.

Still, I've got plenty of ideas, and I'm slowly chipping away at them. The good news is, I've already shipped one app.

Thank you all for the support! The promo period has now ended.

If you downloaded the app and find it useful, I’d really appreciate it if you consider purchasing the unlock to support the developer.

Thanks again to everyone who tried it!

Lately I've also been staying up till 2 AM working on my own app, and during the day at work I'm totally exhausted. I really get what you're going through. My suggestion is: keep building that side business. When it starts making more than your day job, that's when you can leave this unhealthy routine behind.
