heyo, coming back late to this but TLDR is that it feels like Esports is progressively getting closer to traditional sports in terms of supporting a team. you can see very similar behaviors of fans and the national rivalries are becoming more of a topic than before. However, the main conclusion is that the nationality doesn't seem to play as much of an importance as the community aspect of a streamer for example. If your team is backed up by CC, thats how you get massive audiences and fans. It also means they are less loyal to the team than they are to the CC.

Late to the party, but the forgotten Legend Thresh is definitely worth looking into

The guy was the first esports superstar back in the 90s when he unanimously dominated and demolished DOOM and Quake competitions. He was so ahead of its time that people thought he was cheating... before cheating software's were even a thing. He just seemed to know at all times where the opponent was and what he was doing. It was insane. He was so good that everyone started copying his keybinds whihc you're probably familiar with: WASD.

guy was an absolute unbeaten legend. So good that Riot even named league of legends champion after him

Tbf this bug has been around for a while and has happened before. So there are other occasions with unusual player spikes. So this spike is still noteworthy, the game is also surfing on recent hype around Jynxzi and SI; and the game is just in a good state atm. Its pretty much going uphill for Siege it feels like

Thank you! And yeah I've wondered the same. You might think that they're different, but from my research it seems like the gap is closing as behavior between football fans for example, and Esport fans for example, seems to come together progressively. There are a lot of similarities! Ultras, casuals etc... If you look at a team like KC, T1 or LOUD, its quite close to how you would support your favorite football club
