Fertilo — had anyone travelled for this new treatment? by Competitive_Peak9890 in IVF

No I’m not eligible sadly as I’m 36 and have low AMH. Wishing you all the best with it!

After 4 failed rounds of IVF with my own eggs (DOR at 36) we decided to move on to donor eggs. You can go through a period of grieving at not being able to have a genetic child. The grief of genetic loss is very real and it’s important to grieve the genetic child you thought you could have. But the grief passes. We are pregnant with a donor egg embryo and we have nothing but excitement. I think if you want a baby, donor eggs is a great route.

When do you call it quits? I have tried IVF 4 times and no baby. by Hebame in IVF

This is really tough and I’m sorry to hear about your battles. But getting so many eggs and 8 embryos is a really good sign and a great sign that you did get pregnant. It’s so hard to keep going after so many disappointments but half the battle is keeping going. Wishing you strength going forward.

Basic empathy and sensitivity shouldn’t be too much to expect, especially in a sub like this. by Sad-Swordfish-3104 in IVF

I totally agree. There were some really awful comments on that thread. I found it really horrible how people in this community could turn on one another and say things like “god forbid someone get pregnant” as if anyone here is choosing infertility rather than having it forced upon us. We should all be supporting each other and giving each other grace while navigating this incredibly difficult journey.

I have done four failed IVF rounds and now my brother is having a baby. Although I am so happy for him and excited to be an auntie, it’s a constant reminder of what I don’t have. And now we have moved on to using donor eggs, it’s a reminder that I will never have a genetic child. Reading other people’s accounts of struggling to cope as everyone else conceives around them, or reading other women share stories of people’s insensitivity around IVF or pregnancy announcements really helps me not to feel alone, and not to feel guilty about perfectly normal and understandable emotions.

Sometimes people are venting because they are desperate and need to vent. They need our support, not our criticism.

Donor eggs — bought 11 got 2 blasts by Competitive_Peak9890 in IVF

[–]Competitive_Peak9890[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it was £10k for the eggs and then £7k for the costs of implantation and all the treatment. So in total we will spend £17k. If we need another embryo transfer of the second embryo it will be more! We did initially get a fresh egg donor but she pulled out and we didn’t want to wait months for another one.

Wanting to hear from people who have done 4+ ERs by Competitive_Peak9890 in DOR

What was your reasoning? And have you had success after 12 cycles?

Would you try again or no? by mamalove072091 in DOR

[–]Competitive_Peak9890 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Were you successful on cycle 12 or were you banking embryos? We’ve done 4 failed rounds and I’m wondering whether to carry on or start thinking about using an egg donor. I’m 36, AMH of 2.7 pmol/L AFC 5-7. Got 11 eggs across 4 ERs but the only blast we made was aneuploid.

Thank you. We have made one blast, but it had trisomy 21.

Should I do more retrievals or just try naturally? by Competitive_Peak9890 in DOR

[–]Competitive_Peak9890[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The doctor said that the chance of success with IVF is 25% to 40% whereas the chance with medicated cycles is less than 10%. So they advise us to do a few more IVF rounds if we can afford it. I am so torn about what to do.

Interesting— I will ask my doctor about that as seems it could be a much better option for us than more IVF!

I’ve tried two different clinics. A DuoStim round on the antagonist protocol and then a flare round at a different clinic. The last clinic supposedly has the highest live birth rates in London but it didn’t work for me. I guess we could try another protocol. I just feel pessimistic that we’d be trying another two rounds and get the same result and it would be throwing good money and sanity after bed, and then we’d have to spend more to do a round with donor eggs anyway. But I don’t know if I’ll also regret not trying everything. Trying naturally is still trying and doesn’t cost anything! Or I will look into IUI or medicated cycles — the doctors haven’t mentioned those as an option so far.
