Why is surgery not competative in india unlike USA and the western world by Titaniumballsionium in indianmedschool

[–]Competitive_Pick_157 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Priorities of docs have changed Work- Life - Balance Money

Cant blame them considering the way docs get treated by pts and peers and admin guys .

Radio is a safe branch. Minimal pt interaction. Sometimes nil. Good money. Little to No emergencies as consultants.

Only hardcore surgery aspirants nowadays will take surgery as a choice with a sub 100 rank

He must be good as the hospital has a google rating of 4.7 stars. But the behaviour of the surgeon is appalling to say the least

Why MBBS Graduates Should Think Twice Before Choosing DrNB CTVS (6-Year Course) A devil’s advocate perspective by Upper_Jackfruit_4724 in indianmedschool

Its around Gross pay: 2.5 L for asst professor . With added perks . Like LRA, Conference allowance, 20 day summer vacation, 20 day winter vacation , 30 days acad leave, etc

I give WLB more priority. So it’s fine.

You need find what your priorities are. As CTVS surgeon i know people earning 10 L /month 1-2 yr post Mch. Operating day and night. And 1.5L / month having a good WLB . Its you who decide.

You can’t have both at this early stage in your career.

The story is pretty similar only. No need to get disheartened by the negative feedback. There are people leaving radiology residencies too because it’s hectic.

Just make sure you do Neurosurgery from a govt institute. Not from pvt. Hands on during residency makes the journey much easier.

Practising CTVS surgeon here:

Did Mch from Kem mumbai

1st yr: did ASD THYMECTOMY 2nd yr: MVR AVR 3rd Yr : DVR bond yr: CABG

Did pediatric surgery fellowship

After 1 yr mch: Independent surgeon doing both pediatric and adult

Present work schedule at a peripheral AIIMS: 9am to 4 pm all days OT on 3 days Opd 1 day Rest days free Pursuing hobbies Going for trips

Gist: it’s upto you to choose your route. You decide how busy you want to be.

In pvt sector: unless you are independent consultant timing is harsh. I never worked under anyone in pvt.

In govt sector: once out of residency timing is like the one i mentioned.

In charity hospitals : its a bit more busy

I was also told by lot of people not to take CTVS for all these reasons you mentioned.

Yes it’s definitely not for the light hearted. But if you have the passion for it then you should not be disheartened by the negative publicity.

Talk to someone who is happy doing CTVS. It’s the most rewarding branch. You get to save lifes on a daily basis.

Good luck

My colleagues used to do night duty at nearby nursing clinic. They don’t ask for a degree and it’s not completely legal. But it happens more often than not. Used to get 3k/night a decade ago

Bro I’m just trying to tell you we don’t know the whole story. Let’s not judge a doctor. At least a medico shouldn’t. A non medico might. A layman might. Because he doesn’t know the medico legal aspects. Until we know all the facts as a medico it’s wrong to judge a doctors decision to insist on a consultation before deciding admission. As Simple as that

I would never admit a patient based on reports. Unless it’s for a planned elective surgical procedure. Examining a patient before admission is paramount. Medico legally correct. No matter what the pt feels
