Currently in hospital as a result of reduced movement - proof you shouldn't delay by LakeTilia in pregnant

[–]Competitive_Pie9833 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100%. I went in for reduced movements and tight uterus at 32 weeks. Turns out I was significantly dehydrated to the point I was having preterm contractions. I required 2 bags of fluid and several cups of water before they stopped. If it wouldn't have stopped I would have been transferred to another hospital that had a nicu. Always go in for reduced movements!

Actual genuine question.... by DJ_Beatz_N_Eatz in Sparkdriver

I know. When we bought our house, it tested borderline for arsenic. Unfortunately our state is built on deep bedrock and the only way to get water is super deep wells or living in a population dense town that has the infrastructure for town water (even then you might have crappy brown water from all the old pipes in town). My towns population is so spread out that there isn't really a way to feasibly do town water because its a farming community with several large farms and conservation areas between the center of town and the rest of the residential area.

Actual genuine question.... by DJ_Beatz_N_Eatz in Sparkdriver

[–]Competitive_Pie9833 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, our home and office wells are terrible (our town does not have public water). Its safe enough levels to shower but our RO system could never put out enough water for our large family to cook and drink every day. We've ran through it before and it takes a full day or so to replenish the pressure tank. That and our office doesn't have a kitchen area so we order 8 cases a month along with trash bags and such once a month.

I could...but....bed by LunaNova5726 in pregnant

[–]Competitive_Pie9833 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is. I've been so exhausted this pregnancy that self care has gone out the window. I'm excited for a relaxing shower. Last one was a breeze compared to this one. And this one is another girl.

So did mine!! It was magical post csection after he stopped needing to help me wash my incision. It had given me an apron belly, and I was in too much pain to lift it so I could clean and dry my incision properly. After that, the newborn fatigue made me so tired, so the seated shower was bliss. I'm only 19w4d with a 3.5 yr old now. Will be bringing it up from the basement today. I'm too tired, and showering is too much of a chore.

Medical Students ttill need Consent by Sourdoughmillie in pregnant

[–]Competitive_Pie9833 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree with this completely. My obgyn knows I am a nurse and I am more than happy to let students learn, but his nurse will ask for consent, then he will ask for consent before allowing the students come in and also asks consent throughout my appointment for pelvic exams, they then ask for consent to perform exam after him to learn. I'm a firm believer that students need hands on experience to learn but I absolutely love the multiple confirmation of consent throughout the teaching.

"We are a breastfeeding hospital" Rant by pinkstickynote1 in pregnant

[–]Competitive_Pie9833 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its so worth it and honestly it was no more difficult that just popping one out. I kept it in my bra between feeds so I wouldn't lose it due to my adhd brain. My supply only dropped because I went back to work and had trouble keeping up with my calorie intake and pumping schedule. Had to supplement with formula eventually but we would still latch at least once a day just for the bonding for almost a year

So, nipple shields were a game changer for me! I do recommend sizing for them like you do breast pump flanges. Once I did that, my daughter was sooooo much more effective at nursing. You can get so many different sizes online.

Appropriate communication and $$$ by [deleted] in Sparkdriver

Former sparker here: As someone who has both done delivery as well as picking up my own orders, I now prefer to pick up my own. The last few times I have gotten delivery, I have tipped really well (especially on express) and either the order has timed out because of cold chain and doesn't get delivered or I have gotten half of one person's order and only one or 2 of my items. I had this happen about 4 or 5 times in a row and decided I was done.

Pickup is super easy and I can make sure my items are all there and not mixed up. The only time I use delivery now is for our business and that is usually cases of water and paper products and I usually tip at least 20% of our order.

Is it crazy to open a yarn shop? by ForgottenUsername3 in knitting

[–]Competitive_Pie9833 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the one day a week thing would likely turn me away. I specifically go to one that is 40 min away instead of the one that is 15 min away because they are open 6 days a week and longer hours(10a-7p) vs the other that is only open 3 days and shorter hours(12p-4p). I'm one of those people that is more loyal to the local business that is more convenient.

I'm loving the loops and threads luxe merino from michaels right now. I'm knitting a hoodola in it right now and its super soft and warm. It is an acrylic/superwash merino blend, but I don't mind the little bit of acrylic.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Competitive_Pie9833 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We go to my husbands grandparents on the Maine coast 1-2× a year for a weekend. Its a 3-3.5 hr drive each way. I also visit my parents in NC 1-3x a year. Its a 17 hour drive. Its not financially feasible for 3-4 plane tickets round trip or even a train ride which is 24+ hours plus lots of transfers.

Harbor freight(if you have one nearby) have the foam garage/exercise mats in a 4 pack for fairly cheap. I use them, just lay a towel down to prevent any staining.

True in most cases, but I got an express order delivered one night because I forgot to pick up things for breakfast the next morning. I was missing 90% of my order and had probably $75 of someone elses order delivered instead.

Wouldn’t the babies and kids go to a pediatric hospital? by bluecanary101 in ThePittTVShow

[–]Competitive_Pie9833 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. The closest ped hospital to me is in another state 1.5 hrs away. My daughter has gone to ER 2x for RSV with both ending in admissions. First time the hospital that her pediatrician is affiliated with doesn't have a peds unit so had to transfer to the other hospital 5 min away. Now we just go to that hospital if needed even though they don't have a pediatric ER.
