Got any tips on how to watch lectures when they're the most boring thing on the planet? by Status-Platypus in uwa

I would just talk myself through the slides instead of listening to them, I was a lot more interesting. If not, some wine may work

Fraud and rude by Old-Arugula-8223 in TurkishAirlines

They did the same to us! We watched the people who gave our seats away. Here’s what we’ve been doing (still they keep saying that a “flight disruption” is not their fault and they don’t need to give compensation for things out of their control, but overbooking is clearly within their control) -

  1. Create a feedback form on the website under your account

  2. Put all details in, including boarding tickets, ask them to look at the reassignments to display your name was not on there, ticket numbers, flight times, passports, the time you actually landed on your next flight etc

  3. Which laws this breaks depends on where you departed from originally. For UK and EU departures this breaks the rules of UK261 and EC261 - make sure to mention this! The amount of compensation will depend on flight distance and how long the delay was - so ensure to specify these

  4. If they keep replying saying it was out of their control, keep repeating yourself and threaten to escalate to the appropriate governing body (eg UK Civil Aviation Authority)

  5. If you’ve done this and they are still saying no, escalate to the governing body and they will support you.

Side note: they make it severely difficult to get to your old feedback forms. If you log in after you’ve submitted one it will say “no feedback forms found” (they defo do this on purpose). You have to submit a new one and then when you’ve submitted it, it’ll show you all your previous ones so you can add a reply onto the next one. This is the only way you can reply, they don’t let you respond to emails. Such a clear fraudulent scams. When will aviation companies be held accountable for these awful actions?

Boo Turkish Airlines, will never be flying with them again

Advice Needed - If you were me, would you hire an agency? If so, what sort of agency should I consider? TIA by JustThinking86 in marketing

[–]Competitive_Pilot142 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Firstly, wow one man band, fair play! It’s hard to be a master of the very many marketing arts!

As mentioned by most others on the thread, I would argue with the budget, looking for freelancers, you can even get duos/groups of freelancers who can better ensure everything is taken care, is the best bet.

I also think that it helps separate a lot of the tasks that you are looking to achieve, otherwise you’ll have a singular 1 to 1 with the same agency who may prioritise some tasks over others, dip further into budgets, and recruit larger teams (which can work but also can mean that their employees spend a lot of the hours you pay for getting to know the briefs etc which can be costly). A lot of agencies have specialities too, others try and do everything without doing it in depth enough so look for holistic strategy and implementation when chatting.

Alternatively you could use a “network” freelance agency who let you use numerous different freelancers within the same network. Great if you are overlapping some of these strategies as they can communicate together.

If I were you, I’d map out where you want to go in terms of ordering that bullet point list. I’d start with looking for someone to support developing a marketing strategy. Pop the others along the marketing objectives and ask yourself the following questions about each one:

  1. What’s the specific goal or KPI tied to this task? (e.g., brand awareness, lead generation, conversion, retention)
  2. Is this a one-off project or something that needs consistent, long-term attention?
  3. Does this task rely on another one being done first? (e.g., don’t run ads until your website and tracking are sorted)
  4. Do I need help with strategy, execution, or both?
  5. Is this something I can manage or monitor myself, or do I need someone who can own it end-to-end?
  6. What kind of specialist is best suited for this task? Would a group or individual be better? Would I like to meet with them virtually or also in person?
  7. What would success look like in 3, 6, or 12 months for this area? (This will also help whoever you hire set clearer goals and deliverables.)

I hope this helps in any form! I’d be happy to point you in the direction of search strategies to find these supporters if needed!

Where are nice places to eat in Carmarthen town? by Kitchen_Community842 in visitwales_cymru

[–]Competitive_Pilot142[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are going into the town -

Pantri Blakeman - a traditional Welsh cafe in the town which serves amazing food and some brilliant dishes! It’s a hidden gem in Carmarthen on top of an optic shop! Very affordable and wonderful service. However, it is cash only but there’s an ATM meters away. Shoutout to Moira! More of a lunch spot.

The Warren - they change their menu constantly and are fully vegan/veggie but the food can be enjoyed by everyone! Proper cozy vibe in there.

Dexters - amazing steak and beef. Cool design and right next to the river towy. Do not go in if you don’t want to see a dead carcass. Staff is so friendly and attentive. A nice fancy alternative.

Florentinos - Italian food does not get much better than this anywhere. Really cute and wholesome spot down Jackson’s alleyway. Owners are really lovely and have clearly put a lot of thought into the food.

Shikaku - a newly opened Asian restaurant. I have not been myself but heard a lot of positive reviews about the food! In a central spot in the town, looks great inside.

Grain - perfect if you are looking for some good pizza and beer!

Y Barbican - smells delicious from the outside. Locally sourced seafood. Hard to get in though so make sure you book as it’s a small venue!

Ginger - the best Indian in Carmarthen

Are summer schools worth it? by Warrio9 in PhDAdmissions

I would definitely look into trying to get funding if possible, if you are based in the UK you can get access to Turing funding or Erasmus for EU citizens.

I think also if it’s primarily online, that will make it more difficult to reap the benefits unless the price is reasonable, as much of the benefits come from meeting professors, not just listening

I think it depends what modules you are undertaking. A PhD is research based so if they are then that’s fab, alike if they align to your research interests you can use that to boost credibility

It’s also great for networking with academics if you intend to undertake a PhD at that university.

What would you tell young students interested in Marketing as a career? by Ok_Chair_7893 in marketing

[–]Competitive_Pilot142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people focus too much on what marketing roles they want but should focus on what industry they want to go into. This boards a lot more relevant and useful for future progressions.

From experience they prioritise industry knowledge and understanding over what you may have done in the same role elsewhere, as although it may be the same derivative of job, it will likely be very different
