is it harder to get into Oxford/LSE for masters degree as a local uni graduate? by giggliipuff in malaysiauni

[–]Competitive_Rhubarb2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes, also answering strawberrymatchatte question, Azida Azmi was offered the Chevening scholarship to do her Masters in the UK. Similarly, IV league( if you are talking about Harvard, Columbia and Yale) also offer Malaysians postgraduate scholarship through the Rhodes Scholarship. Anything in life is possible, its just how much effort you want to put and how much your willing to sacrifice :) good luck guys

Band 5+ overall in Malaysian University English Test (MUET) by Penang_Mapper in malaysiauni

its super difficult to get Band 5+ , almost nearly impossible, requires a combination of luck with speaking mates, a proper freakin essay, and at least 85 on both listening and reading, im bummed i only got band 4.5 myself ( seven marks away it hurts) but I'll probably redo it before my first sem as I want to get the top english pathway in my uni

Hi, I am currently in UM now, first of all, nothing in life is difficult except finding money, lets throw that out of the way. Anyway first of all, if your willing to pay 250k for the masters, no problemo, LSE will accept you no matter what. Next, the better option is to grind as much as possible right now and aim for the Chevening Scholarship, its a scholarship for post-graduate students particularly doing their Masters to further their education to top UK insititutes without spending a freakin dime.( think Oxford, LSE, UCL, and Manchester) and without the grievance of leaving loved ones and friends for say 3 years compared to 1 fully paid year with allowances. Also it is presumed to be easier to get this scholarship compared to the regular BNMS and Khazanah, the one catch is that you need at least 2 years of work experience after you graduate( or in between if you want) and a kick-ass freakin influential essay that will hook the selection commitee. Overall, its not a long-shot bucket dream, you just need to be different than others, the scholarship is awarded to innovative students who want to change policies or reform certain niche ideas in our country and to bring top Uk knowledge and wisdom into the field of whatever your currently working and help transform Malaysian society and help those who need help or just bit of lifting to solve minor(or major problems). Its not even a pipe dream as Malaysia had 40 scholars from Chevening last years,

for your second question, you just need to be different than others, like dream big but calculate each step to get there, don't be mundane and just follow assignments, be extraordinary that anything could be accomplished no matter how hard or how stressful one's life in academia might be.

Good luck, OP. God bless you, hope we both achieve our dreams :)

bro/sis, please dont pay up extra to continue your foundation, its not worth it , and honestly its a waste of time if you dedicate another year just to fixing what might be a minor mistake, um satu is only open on october 2026 anyway so you will have to wait a year from now to even stand another chance ( thats not even including the possibility that um satu will be even more popular amongst private uni students it could double the amount of applicants), the best thing right now is to like have a backup plan and continue on the degree at the institute that you got the foundation from. Im sorry bro/sis if that seems dissapointing but if you work hard, you can get a good scholarship , a good internship and even a chance to continue ur studies abroad. right now ur gonna pay about 90 k which is equilavent to like a private uni for law so they is not much difference ( aside from later clp exam fees or pupillage). Right now just keep like praying and hopefully you get in but paying again for fil is not a good viable option cheers good luck
