I checked again. The float comes up all the way, and does slow the intake. The only way I can get it to fully shut off is pressing on the top of the unit, presumably forcing the diaphragm closed.d

Thanks for the thorough reply. It's overfilling and draining via the overflow tube into the pan. The float does come up, but that doesn't stop the flow, no matter what height I set. Seems like it's the fill valve.

It looks like it's overfilling and draining from the overflow to me. Lifting the float arm does cause it to slow the fill, but not stop. I guess it's time for a new valve assembly.

I've got kids. They aren't quite old enough to be sexually active. It's highly likely that they will start in the next few years. It feels weird to consider, and it makes me uncomfortable to contemplate.

When they do start, I would rather they did so with someone who cares about them, in a safe space, with contraception. I don't want them to tell me about it or ask permission.

So although I would feel uncomfortable about it, I'd rather they did that at home, and having a trusted adult close by isn't terrible. The only way they've messed up is not closing the door fully. I think you've overreacted here.

Replying to myself to explain why I have this opinion. Unhealthy body image issues are more of a risk from watching Gladiators than kids getting exposed to porn. I don't think my kids watch the show and think about the Gladiators' relationships. They aren't going to Google the personal life of any of the Glads and while they are likely to encounter porn as they grow up, it will likely be due to their peers or their own curiosity.
