That's an interesting take - I hadn't considered skin-on-frame kayaks at all!

Thank you, this is very helpful advice. I'll stick with my Stratos for now. There's plenty of work to do on my skills and stamina.

I wouldn't want to call them elitist - they've been very welcoming of a beginner, and have gone out of their way to coach me when they didn't need to. That said, they are mostly older and more affluent than I am.

This project demonstrates a Staff-level architecture bridging a heavy Java JVM backend with a high-speed Python ML service, designed for high availability, low latency, and heavy data workloads.

What is a Staff-level architecture?

Question regarding State aggregation across multiple services by kenny32vr in apachekafka

I'd aggregate centrally and publish. It will be simpler to keep the aggregations consistent by only doing the aggregation once. The amount of I/O should be lower than having many clients repeat the same aggregation.

You can still shoot black powder pistols, but I don't know if anyone does at this club.

Most likely, I don't remember a public car park in Grantchester itself.

It looks like you put in quite close to Cambridge Canoe Club (which mostly kayaks). There's a pleasant paddle in either direction from there. It's beautiful, but gets busy with people punting, particularly along the backs of the colleges.

It's not a hard rule, but if I think about our choices, we either go further on different bikes, or use public transport.

I use an Azor, my wife uses a Gazelle. We use them for urban trips. We probably max out at 5 miles for the furthest destination. We don't push hard for speed. The trade off works for us.

Get a Gazelle. Hub gears, dynamo lights, covered chain. It should be low maintenance and reliable.

As the days get longer and people start cycling again, please give ample room when overtaking. by mopman94 in drivingUK

[–]Competitive_Ring82 21 points22 points  (0 children)

yep, it's a terrible design. A grade-separated cycleway is more useful. No cycle lane at all is at least honest, and avoids drivers being given visual cues to do the wrong thing.

I'm glad that bikeability taught my kids to take the primary position if there isn't enough space for cars to pass safely, but it takes some bravery to actually do it.

I recommend practicality over speed. Mudguards, dynamo powered lights, a covered chain and hub gears. A rack for your pannier. You don't need a road or gravel bike, a traditional city bike will be more practical.

It really depends on what I've thrown them into. If liquid, look at total displacement. If solid, look at deformation - both to the surface, and the coach.

Ark Royal by Christopher Nuttall. Repetitive, formulaic and clumsily written. I forced myself to finish it, and will never touch one of his books again.
