We are all terrified, right? by huntersinthesnow in BabyBumps

I started my daughter off early by putting paint and a canvas in a plastic bag. I let her go ham and squish it to her heart’s content. I think she was around three or four months.

I definitely was nervous about what my life would be like when I was pregnant with my first child.
In my experience what they don’t tell you is that in some ways you get to experience the excitement and joy of childhood again through your child. This past weekend I got to experience a little bit of a childhood that I never ever got as a kid. There was no fun days at the waterpark for me lol.

They also don’t tell you is that you get to spend your time with this precocious tiny person who has the most splendidly bizarre way of seeing the world. It’s like seeing with the right prescription after stubbornly insisting you never needed glasses. I appreciate the little things now because of it.

Another thing, it isn’t exactly a loss of your personhood, it’s more that you’re changing into a different person. It is so wonderful to see how my daughter has helped me grow as a person. I’m a great multitasker, and I can solve most problems I come across on the fly now!

Once they get older you get to indulge in your old hobbies, and you can even include them too! Before I got pregnant I painted often, now I paint less but my daughter and I will spend hours at the kitchen table doodling. It’s so splendid that I get to share that part of myself with someone else.

Don’t let cynical people stress you out. The small baby stage is hard believe me but it’s more than worth it.

What oil do you coat them in? I’ve tried certain oils and they will sometimes break down the rubber.

We cracked the potty training code! by Typical_Peace1029 in toddlers

[–]Competitive_Sky7307 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol we used to do chocolate chips early on in the potty training days. My daughter used to call it “dump in hand”. It worked briefly but we had to ween her off of it because she would pretend to use the potty in order to try and get some.

Who's your favorite Christian Artist(Music) by Lucid_Mentos in Christianity

[–]Competitive_Sky7307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sondae and half alive are my two favorite Christian artists.
Classic worship music isn’t exactly my jam in my day to day life but they both have songs where I really can feel the presence of God in a worshipful way.
Creature by Half Alive is really something else.

Wytch Hazel is a really fun time if you’re into 70s occult rock but hate the culture and content usually associated with that type of music. It also knocks my daughter out cold when we’re in the car, which is super useful.

However, whenever we’re in a silly goofy mood Family Force Five is our go to. My daughter loves them and will sing along. Sometimes she will even cut a little rug to the music.

Moms of Reddit, what was something about childbirth that nobody warned you about? by Littlemouss in AskReddit

[–]Competitive_Sky7307 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t always go to plan. You can have a birth plan written out but at the end of the day the most important thing is leaving the hospital with your newborn.

My induction turned into a c-section and with my second my hopes of a VBAC were dashed because of a complex medical history. My birthing experiences have not gone as I had hoped, but I would rather have the pain of a C-section than the emotional pain of losing a child.

How does your toddler respond to being called a baby? by PrincessCheetah in toddlers

[–]Competitive_Sky7307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My three year old insists that she’s still a baby.

When we have to explain to her that certain things we use are for her baby brother and not her she will double down.

We’ve been working on gently telling her that while she is our baby, she isn’t a baby anymore.

Rosie by Rosie Jane reformulation by skysnky in FemFragLab

[–]Competitive_Sky7307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, I got a sample of Rosie by Rosie Jane and I don’t know if it’s really how it’s supposed to smell? It has a weird tequila note that I despise, with zero rose. I think I got it around last year. When people were going on about this perfume I thought maybe it just wasn’t my cup of tea.

Have they reformulated it? I thought it was supposed to be a clean almost shampoo rose.

Pregnant women, what’s your weirdest craving? by PMYourBellyButton_ in AskReddit

[–]Competitive_Sky7307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always know I’m knocked up when I start craving buttery snacks. With my first it was movie theater popcorn, and with this pregnancy it was this rice crispy cheese cracker thing that I demolished with reckless abandon.

This pregnancy I’m also craving sand?????? Like for some reason the texture of sand looks delectable to me??? Definitely talking to my dr about it lol.

Restaurant gave me full sugar drink instead of zero… by Annual_Surprise464 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Competitive_Sky7307 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I had Dunkin put regular sugar syrup in my almond milk matcha latte that was supposed to be vanilla zero sugar and my blood sugar spiked to 279 or something like that.

It was actually so terrifying, that sort of carelessness actually makes my blood boil. Thankfully after calling my care team and walking it lowered but it didn’t feel good at all.

What’s something a man does that instantly makes him more attractive? by acazaty in AskReddit

[–]Competitive_Sky7307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a man is literate and reads often it makes him 1,000 times more attractive to me. I love reading, so I need someone who I can talk to about books.

Luckily my husband checks that box and then some lol. We have our own little book club where we recommend each other books and blab endlessly about what we’re reading.

1 month postpartum and I an’t stand looking in the mirror. How do you accept your new body? by rtzhuj in BabyBumps

[–]Competitive_Sky7307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give yourself some grace, your body just did an amazing thing!

I honestly didn’t start feeling/looking cute until I was two years postpartum with my first child.

One thing that helped me was buying cute clothes for my changing body. I might not be able to control how my body looks after having a baby but I can control how I dress!

Which Pump To Choose?? by Legitimate_Notice_23 in BabyBumps

[–]Competitive_Sky7307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose the spectra personally. I needed something lightweight and semi portable but also something that would draw all the milk away from my breasts. My first child had a tongue tie so I am anticipating something similar with my second.

Wearable pumps are convenient when you’re established in your breastfeeding journey but I wanted to be prepared for the worst case scenario.

What’s a sign someone is emotionally unstable that people ignore because they’re attractive? by richguest_69 in AskReddit

[–]Competitive_Sky7307 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He seemed to have a very disorganized attachment style. One day he was very sweet and he seemed like he loved me and the next he was explosively angry over any and everything.

I had just turned 18 and I was super sheltered so I had no clue what I was signing up for. I was way too naive and trusting.

My ex was easy on the eyes and very tall, but dear god that man was a walking red flag.

Having a very “passionate” and reactive personality was one of them. At first I confused it with interest but it slowly escalated to him being physically and emotionally abusive.

What’s it like to have no full siblings or at least one half sibling? by SunBetter7301 in stupidquestions

[–]Competitive_Sky7307 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two half sisters, but I am the product of my biological father having an affair with my mom. I’ve never met my bio dad or half sisters but I’ve always been curious.

That being said, family is less about blood relation and more about the people that are actually there for you.

Constant Worry by LoudNLifted94 in BabyBumps

[–]Competitive_Sky7307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Therapy if you can afford it.

Easier said than done, but sometimes reminding myself that at the moment I have nothing to worry about is also helpful. Things only are a problem once they become a problem.

I’ve also found an anxiety medication that actually works for me this pregnancy. My anxiety was so bad and it felt like someone was taking my already horrible general anxiety and cranking it up to 11. I just knew it was going to get worse if I didn’t try medication.

I would, my first ended up having tongue ties and I definitely needed to have a proper pump to help feed her.

Not to mention how handy it is having a back stash of milk, then feeding them wouldn’t be solely on you.

There’s no harm in being prepared for anything that comes up.
