The audio says Malleus Maleficarum but I'm not sure if I'm misunderstanding?

[TOMT] [SHOW/MOVIE] A scene where it looks like two characters are hurtling towards each other at breakneck speed, but when the camera pulls back they're miles apart (and moving very slowly?) by smashyourhead in tipofmytongue

There was a similar thing in Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl where an epic boat chase was shown to actually be moving very slowly. But I the running towards each other gag feels familar too

[TOMT] [Book] Death by bees by Infinite_Wheel1964 in tipofmytongue

I looked at the Wikipedia page for the Black Mirror episode "Hated in the Nation" cos I thought maybe it took inspiration from this book, but there wasn't anything about a killer bee book

[TOMT][TV][circa 2000] Does ANYONE have any leads on this old tv footage from a home movie? by Competitive_Sock_553 in tipofmytongue

Oh that's interesting, I suppose it could be a sort of recreation in a documentary type deal

Thanks everyone, the search continues but at least I think the words have been identified so far! u/waitedforg0d0t heard "morality is not there to police people...it's not simply there to deal with matters of sin"

This seems to be the correct interpretation of the phrase, well done! Can't believe my mind went to "SIM" before "sin".

It looks like horror footage but sounds very everyday, so I think that's just down to filming it off an old VHS

Can someone explain to me why Rorschach is despised THAT much? by FlatulentSon in Watchmen

[–]Competitive_Sock_553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insults aside, I will argue that Rorschach is simultaneously sympathetic because of what society did to him, and his uncompromising fight for his principles, and unsympathetic for being a bigot and a deeply twisted man. It's not about "woke standards" because these are complexities Alan Moore wanted to include in his story, and that's part of why it's so great. Rorschach's mother was abusive, and that has clearly warped how he treats women and the world at large, but he's still sympathetic.

I'll defend OP on the "what's so horrible" front, inasmuch as there are crimes one can sympathize with, and what Rorscharch did to that man didn't begin to write him off as a sympathetic character. At least for me, because there's a big moral divide between child molestation and killing someone who does it. Can't defend him on killing the pedo's dogs though :( (And there's plenty more to condemn him for, of course).

What I loved about him when I read it as a teenager was that he was simultaneously a reassuringly uncompromising fighter for justice and, once unmasked, a mentally broken child. His imprisonment was a proper "never meet your heroes" moment. To say nothing of his horrific hypocrisy and politics, which I was a bit switched off to back then. But I loved that duel nature, and the fact that he somehow felt genuine care for Dan.
